really? what about his guy bart scott? only missed about 300 tackles this year and flipped off a reporter on the last day, plus reminded us that his $4 million contract is ' guaranteed". at least santonio kept his mouth shut to the press. scott should be first one out the door before santonio:sad:.
I think that's a good approach. I also think Sanchez can gain some respect by standing up himself in the meeting, looking all his teammates in the eyes and blasting whomever it was while pointing out all the hard work he's put in. Challenge them all to talk to him like a man instead of like an anonymous coward in the media.
Kinda sad to see this unfolding the way it is. Rough being a Jets fan these days isn't it. The Sparano hire is a direct result of Rex not being comfortable enough with the offense to hire his own OC. This is the second time a OC has been chosen for him and that the two candidates for the position are both ex-HC's is a not so subtle message to Rex. He really needs to show something more than he has so far and those moments when he doesn't know what's happening on the field can't happen again. Its clear that Rex is being put on notice with all the upheaval. Woody Johnson is no fool. The man has to sell PSL's to a extremely skeptical fanbase and the last thing he needs is a negative perception around the team visa vis the Giants be it online or in the NY Media circus. Yeah, the perception is as important as the results and if Rex is gonna continue shooting his mouth off and not back it up, he ain't long for the position of HC of the NYJ's. The honeymoon is over..
The only thing that Rex does that I have Disgust/contempt for is having faith in absolutely rubbish players(Eric smith and others) He probably does know who the bad seeds are on the team ,but they probably think they can get away with having their voices heard because Rex has said previously that he wants his players to be vocal. Remember Rex Left his Coordinators to run their own area's , so I think the fall off in talent and performance is mainly due to allowing your developmental players to go else where and trying to make due to marginal players that other teams show no interest in.
Agree with most of this. It's not rough being a Jets fan these days though. Now when they go 8-8 we all throw our hands up in the air and scream. I remember the days when 8-8 would have looked really good to the fan base in a given year. Those were the days when it was rough being a Jets fan. I will say that even in the new and improved reality that the Jets inhabit they still never take two steps forward without taking a step back somewhere in proximity and often two steps back to be right where they were along about 2000.
I really wish Woody would have gone with a Jets bond or team stock issuance instead of the PSLs. Fans would find those (bonds/team stock) more easy to swallow during tough times than PSLs. I really don't believe that PSLs will get sold repeatedly with a floundering team no matter what stars are brought in. Hopefully Woody has sent down the marching orders by this time. We really need the coaching positions filled as soon as possible for the amount of work that is required in this off season. Some of the coaching departures undoubtedly were a result of deep issues within the organization.
I agree about the lack of social skills. His false bravado and groundless optimism is tolerable when he backs it up, even if accidentally. But when things are rough, he sounds like he's clueless and delusional.
OMG! Rex showing support of his players. Nah, I don't believe it. I would have figured he would have agreed with the chaos that is Mark Sanchez.
Are you serious? Rex has gotten more attention for this team in the last week and the last 3 years than it has ever had. Woody wants publicity, he is getting it. Love or hate Rex, people are listening in.
I'd rather see him rouse the team at 3am and go on a brutally long marathon run with the team till they are dripping sweat and give a speech over the blood spilled in the Civil War and the need to come together as a team, Titan style. Cause its a great scene, and I'm sure Rex could use the exercise.
The problem though is that his mouth is now all entertainment value and very little else. The fact that he took so long to respond to the controversies swirling at the moment and then the reaction of most people is that they don't believe a word he is saying suggests that his period of relevancy as NY Jet's coach is rapidly ending. Does anybody think Rex is even remotely in control of the team at the moment? That's kind of a huge qualifier in terms of his ability to lead moving forward. I respect what he did the first two years. I just don't think that it's at all clear that he has the ammo left to improve on that or even maintain it moving forward. That's one of the reasons I'm so pissed at Mehta. People see my support as support for Sanchez but they need to realize that the shot Mehta took wasn't even primarily at Sanchez, it was primarily at Rex, since if you believe Mehta's report Rex does not have enough control of the locker room to keep this from surfacing at the worst possible moment just as Schotty is finally leaving the room. The shot at Rex was also a shot at Tannenbaum who is probably in a huge question about Rex's ability to coach the team successfully moving forward. Indirectly it was a shot at Woody Johnson, since if there actually is a house of cards here and it all comes down Woody is in a world of hurt trying to sell the PSL's moving forward.
I think as posters have mentioned, that Cortland effected this team more than we expected. Rex loves to play the "us vs the world" mentality, but if you aren't all in Cortland you cannot set that tone. I think he chose or said they wanted to have training camp elsewhere (It wasn't Johnson's decision since they just built Florham and then left it empty). Cortland is a very nice area, there is not as much as a social life compared to being close to NYC. Being in Cortland would have helped him get this team together and instead it became everyone showing up and trying to gel. Other teams had this problem, but other teams did not have our expectations placed by our coach and previous' years play. They also probably have less vocal people. We have some of the most vocal on our team and then our open policy with the media.
Just the way he talked about the interview process, he was effusive about Cally, then kind of realized what he was saying and backtracked and began giving the same bland repetitive jibber jabber he had been saying about Sparano 3 times earlier. Hell, I didn't even know Callahan had been interviewed until Rex said it. Did you? The other thing that was funny was Tanny trying to play damage control, he has so many tells, especially that throat clearing nonsense.
BINGO! not only is rex clueless as far as the pulse of the team, rex himself has come across as clueless. how can the head coach not know anything about the offensive side of the ball. not know the teams ace reciever is humiliating the organization on national tv! doesn't have the insight or balls to step in and stop his oc from throwing the ball 59 times! rex himself is turning out to be the biggest joke of the organization as any. by now he has shown himself to be nothing more than a defensive co, head coach material he's not!
