THIS. No question. And as for him being a great defensive guru - don't make me laugh. More 3rd and 200 conversions today, another 60+ yard touchdown.........for all the picks we've spent on defense in the past decade we should put the '85 Bears and '00 Ravens to shame.

Same here. Not to mention the way Rex is embarassing himself at these press conferences, and letting nonsense run rampant in the locker room. I want it to work with him, but I just don't think it will anymore.

i can understand, to some extent, the last couple weeks. against pitt and new england, though...those were disgusting displays. the team was mentally and physically whupped by those teams. i felt so bad. the team was mush.

I really like(d) Rex Ryan and up until the last few weeks I wanted to see him return. But how can he? There are massive problems in the organization and he has his hands in many of the problems: Tebowmania, managing the 53-man roster, constant and consistent leaks from "inside" sources, poor personnel decisions (not all on MT), hubris above and beyond what is normal for NFL coaches, can't manage the locker room, and just recently can no longer effectively communicate with the media (fans).

I hope the D didn't finish in the top five this year, that's the most overrated stat. The D's gone downhill just like the team

    1st year - great
    2nd year - very good/borderline great
3rd year - slightly above average (bullied bad teams, wilted against good teams)
4th year - pretty much average (couldn't stop the run all year)

as a jet fan, when i think about firing coaches/managers and releasing players... i think of it like: who's most likely to come back to hurt the jets? i'm not really worried about tannenbaum or even sanchez (though he could put it together somewhere warm and mellow). but i do imagine firing rex would haunt the jets somehow. by that reasoning, maybe he should get one more chance ;)

Rex Ryan has brought the Jets to forefront in the media in the last 4 years. You can't tell me his bravado the first 2 years didn't do that. I would like to know, what coach could win with the QB situation he has had to deal with?

Rex proclaims that Sanchez was the best option to win, but is there a chance that his Boss, Mike Tannenbaum forced the issue. Tannenbaum is the one who is tied at the hip with Sanchez. Mike is the one that drafted Sanchez, and the person who gave him the extension.

For what it is worth, I don't care if we bring in a new GM, and he replaces Ryan. I do think it would be a mistake, but the coaches don't play the game. Whoever, is the head coach next year, I truly hope he has a viable offense to work with, and starting with the QB.

How do we know? Rex may have said, and I don't remember, that Sanchez was his guy. However, if the Jets drafted Sanchez, don't you think he would say that regardless.

I guess he could have said, in his first year as a head coach, Sanchez was the dumbest decision I have ever seen, but ...

The resigning of Sanchez was the dumbest decision ever.

I think it's far from obvious what the right decision on Rex is, but IMO the pathetic performance of the team the last 6 games has to laid at this doorstep. The team obviously gave up, and that is all on the head coach. To me that's worse than all of the other problems (and there were lots of others). If the team had finished 2-4 but fought hard I would be saying he clearly should come back, but I don't really feel that way any more.
