The league's default is to include playoff and regular season records when listing coaching records It is better to simply show what the coaches' records were during their stay with the Jets when they won their 20th game. Rex Ryan won his 20th game when the Jets beat the Bengals on Thanksgiving. That improved his record to 20-10. When Bill Parcells won his 20th Jets game it improved his record with the team to 20-11. So on and so forth. Rex Ryan: 20-10 Bill Parcells: 20-11 Herman Edwards: 20-14 Joe Walton: 20-20 Eric Mangini: 20-22 Weeb Ewbank: 20-28-4 Walt Michaels: 20-32 Bruce Coslet: 20-32
And it is only cool if the Jets are winning games not losing. Rex is still grooming himself into a HC but will it ever stop. I get tired of hearing opposing teams say "Most teams do their talking on the field". Just rubs me the wrong way. Let your players do the talking for you Rex.
No, he needs to talk more! We need to get back to our winning ways. And we need to do it the old fashioned way... by telling Pittsburgh up front that we're going to kick their ass! What the hell. It was working before...
There is only 1 thing in sports that matters & that is winning championships. That is why the NYYs have a 1/4 billion dollar payroll it ios niot just win games it is to be world champions. Using that as the guideline & since we have not won a world championship since 01/12/69 that means that every year since that day we have been losers :jets:
With the Jets he was 4-28. Add that to the 5 straight losses under Pete Carroll which led to Kotite's hiring and we endured a 4-33 stretch from 1994-96. Regarding Rex "talking too much", I think that gets overblown. He's a bit more honest and open than most coaches but he doesn't trash the opponents or make outlandish statements, he just has confidence in his team. Considering his team is the Jets, I think that is the best way to change the atmosphere that existed before.
Well yes the Steelers have 6 rings to prove it but they also appear to be quite astute at drafting that gives them the talent to win those championships. We on the other hand are relying on the VGs of the world. If he is a bad example then Vlad Duchese or maybe Kyle Wilson who are non contributors to the cause. Lately at least as I see it doubts have begun to creep in about RR + his staff & it appears again that the cheater 250 miles NE of our stadium has again out thunk us. Just think of RR calling a D that has Scott covering Brandon Marshall. How much of a mismatch do U think that is? Just looking at it the quality of Bellycheat & his staff seems to be light years ahead of RR & our staff. Maybe that is why that 50 year season tix holder started that 0-5 thread because he is seeing things that only watching football for 50 years give you insight into. Do you think he just got up one morning & said to himself boy or boy I think I will start a thread on the TGG that will stir up the pot especially among the younger members of the forum. Maybe just maybe he is seeing things due to watching football games for 50 years that others just beginning to watch FB games do not yet see. Did the posters who torched him ever think of that before torching him? I sincerely doubt that. Then speaking of torching is it not the mods job to monitor the board & ban members who called the starter of that thread names but were not banned? I probably know the reasons for the non banning but I will keep my thoughts on that subject to myself. I seen several posts that the reason we are losing is because I made SB reservations in Dallas. Do you really think those posters who post such silliest can really analyze anything about a FB team when they are posting such silly comments which shows that there knowledge of FB IMHO is a big fat zero :jets:
Champ, I don't even understand half of that ramble, but to touch on the successful draft part of your post ... I really believe part of having successful drafts is having continuity in the coaching staff and the system. Players get drafted to play in a system and over the years players become very good and comfortable with playing in that system. When you have vets who have played for the same coach in the same system for there entire career they can be very helpful in bringing up the young draftees.
To that point, Pittsburgh was able to have continued success even after losing a lot of the good players they drafted to free agancy, because as you said a system was in place and they knew what kind of guys to plug into it. We've drafted pretty well, too, champ of course mentioned the few that haven't been good and ignores guys like Brick, Mangold, Keller, Harris, Revis, etc. Also, the Google English/champ translation isn't working.
U can HOPE for that but the facts appear to be different. RR picked Connors his "terminator". What has he terminated. The draft is only the tip of the iceberg. Quality of staff is a huge item. Is RR a innovator or is sticking to his tried & true measures which now maybe becoming outdated as Belly proved up there a few weeks back when we were 9-2. Remember those days? If you do not understand what I am saying about the treatment of the starter of that 0-5 thread then sorry to say U should resign your modship IMHO. Anything else you do not understand about my reply why not send me a PM & I will gladly clarify whatever you do not understand BTW I hope the experts are incorrect that MS cannot handle the cold/wet/windy conditions because if they are we are again right back at square 1 :jets:
I was discussing the positive effects of maintaining the same system and coaching staff over a number of years on drafting players and you pointed to a rookie. It's clear that you're not picking up what I'm putting down. Good luck with your SB tickets. If the Jets don't make it you can probably make a profit on them anyway.
See U misunderstood that as well. I ONLY made reservations for a room in a hotel in Dallas for the nite of the SB game. As a STH I am HOPING (there is that word again) that I am one of the lucky ones & hit the NYJ SB lotto if we make the game. :jets:
NO the thing that matters in Sports is that is a form of entertainment, that is all, if you choose to be an ass and only care about championships you are the loser not the Jets. Like I said before- don't watch - just turn on the TV when they make the SB - for the rest of us we actually like the game of football and like to watch the game of football and like to discuss the game of football. It is about sharing memories with my children watching games together, staying in touch with other family and friends to discuss the good and bad of games. Sports brings people together, it does it right here on these message boards everyday.
Nothing I said was wrong in the thread. First of all, I said I think Rex will rally the team and they will be fine. But I also said, if he doesn't and the team spirals out of control, that it will get ugly. Whats wrong with that? Come on guys.
You are responding to a miserable old bastard. You know the movie Grumpy Old Men? Well Mathau and Lemon are like Pee-Wee Herman on laughing gas compared to Champ. So why bother? You can bang your head against a wall till it is numb and get the same result. It's a zero sum game for him. That is all it will ever be. To the rest of us it isn't ..............
I'm still amused that he thinks wins are "mind numbing stats". Wins are pretty much the point, aren't they? I kind of feel bad talking about him while he's at the early bird special eating his dinner, though.
It is amazing how Champ considers the Jets champions for one day (1/12/69). He holds 1/13/69 against the team for cryin' out loud. If he was just a little bit more fair about it, he'd say that the Jets were the reigning champions until the clock ran out in Super Bowl 4.
