Feeley missed from 44 and another over 50 yards. Prior to that he had a streak of something like a month where he hadn't missed. Getting shot of Feeley IMO is robbing Peter to pay Paul. Maybe Folk does. Its little shit like that which can get inside a Kickers head. I agree Folk has had a decent TC and Pre-season barring that PAT miss. But I'm not ready to anoint him as the second coming just yet.
Even backups have roles. LT is assumed to be Greene's backup, but he will have a big role himself. He can catch while Greene isn't used as a pass catching RB. If Keller was good at blocking, Hartsock wouldn't be needed. As it stands, Hartsock is in here for blocking. Hartsock is still the backup to Keller, although there will be plenty of plays each game where they will both line up.
Here's the problem you have with that post...(there are a couple..but this is the most obvious) Rex essentially did just that in the presser. Including confirming Clemens will make the roster. Realistically, when breaking down the 53, they counted 3 specialists...there is not too many ways to break that down, unless you consider keeping a guy strictly for returns, and let's be honest hardly no one does that.
I'll give you a video of him missing and then some... Video of him missing a kick *in the biggest game of his professional career: At the 18 second mark, Feely misses a kick inside, or as you Red Coats like to say "in a vacuum sealed dome" ...and then some: In Jay Feely's first three seasons as a professional kicker, he missed 2 extra points in the REGULAR season. In Nick Folk's first three seasons as a professional kicker, he missed 0 extra points in the REGULAR season.
...you don't know that. No one does. None of us know what the final roster will look like before the week one, no matter what Ryan says.
Thing with Feely was that the Jets consistently gave up FG tries between 50 to 55 yard range last year. I can remember atleast 7 or 8 tries. Most of Feely's FG kicks were from short distances in those 20+ consecutive kicks. As for Folk, he has been outstanding IMO. Yeah he missed a PAT, but that's just lack of concentration, something he should have during the season. That 62 yards FG try was pretty good. It was right down the middle, just not enough power. Had it been from 55, that would have been converted. Letting Feely go allowed us to sign Gayson Taylor. He will come in handy while Pace is on his 6-wk vacation.
My point is that when Rex talks about TE he talks about guys that are going to PLAY TE... Take Jake Ingram... drafted by the Patriots as a LS... he wears 47. Does that mean he's listed as a TE too? Numbers 20 to 49 are worn by running backs, tight ends (who may wear a number between 40-49 when 80-89 are unavailable), cornerbacks and safeties. The fact Purdum (or Ingram) has 46 doesn't mean they're listed as TE, RB, CB or S... it means: A) Not even the NFL gives a fuck about what number LS have hence anything is permitted. B) No one, out of the guys that write the wiki pages, knows if and what number the LS is supposed to have. LS is a role on a football team... every team has it's LS and not a LS/something... it's not like saying he's a good ST player + he has his role on O or D... a LS is a LS and that's it imo.
I've no idea, I said I wasn't. I understand the reasons why Feeley was let go, (I think). I'm not having a pop at Folk, I really hope he works out. I'm concerned, very concerned that he will not be able to handle the winds in NJ and if is head is back where it should be.
How long are we going to argue over the TE issue? Mr. E makes sense. Traditionally, LS tend to be TE converts, and are generally listed as such. Mambo makes sense. TEs and specialists were listed separately, and Purdum is NOT listed as TE. Does it matter? Well, if it means the difference between Woodhead or Washington making the roster, I guess on this board it's probably the most significant thing going.
Do they play football..my bad...futbol americano...in Italy? You don't know half a shit about what Rex Ryan means when he's talking about the roster. No one of this board does.
Anyway, without releasing Feely the Jets would be totally screwed because of the Pace injury....................
Fuck that. Jay was a solid kicker for us. Folk could be even better if he keeps improving and fully returns to his early form, but that doesn't diminish what we had with Feeley.
I have a tough time dismissing Mambo as a foreigner when his English skills are better than at LEAST 50% of this board.
Lol, Never been called a Red Coat before, are you 200 years old or something? Well, we will see at the end of next season if it was worth letting Feeley go or not won't we. Hope I'm wrong.
