    1) In retrospect, and at the point that everyone was bashing Rex for continually starting Sanchez and for a reason, yes Tebow or McElroy. And this isn't hindsight. This was reality of the moment.
    2) Your HC should have a generally strong understanding of both sides of the ball. The fact that we need a STRONG OC to have a competitive offense is a problem.
    3) Not in the past. He hasn't shaken that rep and it's followed the team. As long as he is here, so will that rep and negative press, pressure and attention.
    4) Very little? All we've heard is "anonymous sources" which we have to assume are real or else the reporters and committing crimes.

With that said, I'm NOT on the fire Rex bandwagon, but there are very valid reasons to fire him and to say otherwise is head in sand syndrome.

Tannenbaum re-assigned or canned, Sparano canned, Clinkscales back as General Manager, Ryan given one season to turn it around, Sanchez traded or released, same with Tebow.

If Tebow started and had a good game, he would improve any shot at trading, rather than giving him away.

Sanchez no matter how good he played today has $20M in a contract no one wants, so he is vertualy unable to ber traded.

I don't see those as great reasons to ditch someone that has done a lot with relatively very little available to him as with the Jets and I think firing him would be a major step back for the Jets - its not a question of having my head in the sand, I can see Rex has flaws but then so does every coach (who does not have those flaws well hidden by having a top tier QB to fall back upon).

If I thought that we could make great leaps forward with a new HC I would be all for it, but until you get a half decent QB in (which we have not had for years) you have no real idea what RR is capable of as the Jets HC and it would be a mistake to fire him.

If they thought that Tebow had any chance of having a good game they would have played him, it seems entirely clear that they thought he was terrible (and probably felt that if anyone got a good look at him then they would have 0 chance to get rid - at least this way people might think "well they just didn't know how to use him" or " he was never given a fair chance" - which may well be true).

Sanchez is almost certain to be a back-up here next year, I am sure that they hoped that he could enjoy some success against the terrible Bills (relying heavily on the run game) so that he could go into the off season with some tiny shred of upswing and confidence - sadly he couldn't even manage that little.

Why does everyone assume the new gm will get rid of Rex?

Any GM worth a damn will want to start building the team his way. Which means getting rid of the head coach and starting fresh.

I really would not want a GM that agrees to keep Rex on as HC as Rex has proved he is in way over his head as head coach.

Personally, I just love that they scheduled the thing for 4:45pm. All the jets beat writers are whining about their NYE plans. It's beautiful.

    hehe just to be douchebags?

thats the type of stuff the jets fo does these days.

it also very well may get cancelled after an earlier press conference announces the gm has been fired.

I see a lot of people say that "any gm worth a damn" blah blah blah, but I haven't seen anyone post a really good reason for it. Why can't a new GM work with Rex? Their are some pretty big personnel implications in getting rid of Rex and our defense is pretty damn good. It seems to me that the Jets could be fixed rather quickly by bringing in a good offensive coordinator & QB, and focusing on offense in the draft.

We've seen new gm's come in with established coaches in place, and if the gm believes Rex can get the job done then they'll keep Rex.

But will that improve our D? I don't think so.

Our last 3 drafts have been based around a 46 D and our personnel better fits a 46 D. This is what worries me about firing Rex.

Most likely a move to get more attention on Sportscenter.

I want Rex gone but I don't assume he will be. #1 he has 6 million coming to him next season. That's a lot of money to eat and then on top of it go out and hire a new head coach. #2 Next season is a year where we have to clear the crap off our roster #3 There isn't enough free agency money available to make it worthwhile #4 No obvious franchise QB to choose from

Combine all that and I can see a new GM waiting a season while he lays the groundwork for the future. Who knows, maybe Rex tightens up his issues and understands he needs to be a head coach, not a defensive coordinator. Doubtful, but anything is possible. Whatever happens, I trust the new GM to do what's best for the long term. I say this because it looks like Woody is taking the search for a GM very seriously and not just hiring the new flavor of the month.

My hope though is that at 4:45 tomorrow Rex announces that he resigns as head coach from the NY Jets effective immediately. Makes it easier for us to move forward right away.

Very well said indeed. He is a business man not a football man. I like the idea of hiring a firm that can help him with the processWoody please select a GM that will establish credibility in the Jets org once and for all. If Rex is a victim of the change...so be it.
