The Jets have gained one thing by demoting WFH, PATIENCE FROM THE FANS!

Now when Sanchez gets sacked because of bad play of the RT position they can say "Hey we've got a young guy in there who's still learning the position, be patient" and Jets fans will have to comply.

The Jets still better sign McKenzie, Pashos, or one of the cuts because the Howard promotion will only get them by for a max of 3 games.

Vlad has looked good at guard so far this preseason.

He's actually doing pretty good at his natural position of RG. First full offseason
+ playing his normal position and not learning 3 different ones, he looks a lot better. (Although the bar wasn't too high to start with)

After all the shit that the Jets have taken for being overconfident, it's pretty ironic that their most hated player sounds like fucking Eeyore.

Hunter himself says it but yet the Jets paid him.

I don't blame WFH at all. It's not his fault he was given a nice contract. I actually respect WFH for how he's handled this all.

i'm sure most of us would love to be in hunter's position making all that dough. the blame falls on tanny and management for giving him a big contract after a few playoff games and not having depth on the offensive line.

Have to agree Hunter has dealt with the mountain of bad press in a classy way. The man is certainly not starting material at this level and others should shoulder more blame for not recognizing this , then Wayne is getting for at least trying to make a go of it. After all he is a man and a man with feelings, you have to ask yourselves how you would feel if the whole fan nation was kicking you in the nuts every day in the press on the TV, radio and Internet day on and day out. The guy was never press shy or tried to duck taking responsibility for his poor play and didn't cry or make excuses for it. So now that he is back on his proper role, perhaps we and everyone else will just leave man alone for awhile.

Damien Woody talked about how athletic this dude is...so making him the blocking TE could turn out well for us. Obviously only if Howard slash whomever playing RT performs. His salary is too much, but at least they're being creative in the best interest of the team. If nothing else, I think this helps ease the mindset of everyone in the sense of being proactive.

He is. Beat me to it.
I completely expect him to look vulnerable and the fans lamenting.

If Howard or some journeyman picked up when everyone goes 53-players can simply "hold-the-fort" @ RT the Jets O will look so much better. Hunter was a terrible starting RT but I do think he can contribute very well as a 6th OL & blocking TE on obvious running plays.

If you wanna be Ground & Pound then you need to run the rock when the other team knows you're bringing it. If Jets can jump on a team it would be nice to have the option to pull out their non-blocking TE & plug in Hunter as the clock down grinds down.

those who are trashing vlad simply aren't paying attention. he improved during last season, has worked hard all off season, participated in all OTAs and Camp sanchez and has apparently been crushing it in the weight room and living in the film room. Now every time he is in there he has looked Pretty damn solid and I frequently see him driving his man backwards. He has a huge physical upside and now he has had enough experience and off season hard work so that its pretty obvious he has improved markedly. If he keeps on improving he will be a starter.

he is no longer being asked to play RT which he should never have been asked to play in the first place - when he was drafted it was clear that A) he was a project and B) he would have to play RG or LG in the NFL.

So smarten up and quit trashing Vlad - the big man has been working his butt off and it shows.

This is all i know about Howard:
Huge guy at 6'8" and 350lbs.
Was on Ravens practice squad, but Ravens were stacked at Tackle. So hasn't really had much opportunity until now, and of course is very inexperienced as result.

I haven't focused in on him too much in preseason, but looked a little heavy footed in pass protection. Big test this weekend, and i hope he steps up to the challenge.

I'm glad the Jets made the switch. Last game was actually the worst i've seen Hunter play in both run and pass. I think he needs some pressure off him. He's taken a beating amongst fan and media, and owned up to it like a man.
I think he'll contribute well as a 6th man again. Heard Schlereth talk about his skill set matching up better as a Guard. Wonder if the Jets will experiment there..

All this said, Jets better get more depth going at Tackle.
If Howard plays well next game, they may settle on vet depth or a cut player. If not, they'll need to trade..
