I wouldn't say I agree or disagree more often than the other with your posts, but certainly do not tend to agree with you. but on this very important subject, important for me personally that is, I have come to this viewpoint as well, which is a first for me. I also do not believe in playing for draft position, but this year may be an exception given the potential upside of drafting Mariota. But still, i have not arrived at that point. Instead my fear as you allude to is that a relatively strong performance from the Jets over the last five games has too much potential to encourage Woodrow to leave things as they are. Which shouuld be unacceptable, but that's the nature of the owner. This is new for me. I didn't even feel this way in Kotite's second year. That season was merely to be endured, and we knew Hess was not going to be around forever. A different situation, in short. Given present circumstances, which included becoming more of a fan of the Packers after beating NE yesterday, I can't see any logic here other than what you have described. Signed, reluctantly, On Board With Losing
This is what the greatest thing about sports is: You play to win the game. Hello? You play. To WIN. The GAME. You don't play to just play it...I don't care if you don't have any wins, you go play to win. When you start telling me it doesn't matter, then retire, get out, because it matters
I think it's fair to say that Ryan is not 100% of the problem and the reason for the decline of this team in the last 4-5 years. However, Ryan would look rather foolish to try and pin the blame on everyone else publicly. He is just as guilty as Idzik and Tannenbaum for the state of this team right now.
Which group of players on the Jets is over-achieving? The defensive line. Which area of the game is Rex Ryan grounded in? The defensive line. So where Rex has expertise the Jets are really strong and thriving. The problem is that they blow chunks almost everywhere else. It's the head coaches job to get the most out of all of his players. This Jets team is playing collectively worse than their talent levels would suggest by a margin that exceeds anything since at least 1996. That's coaching. It's unfortunate because Rex has some great qualities but the fact is that he's not getting the most out of his players right now, in fact he's getting close to the least, and you pay a head coach to make his players contributions more valuable not less.
Don't take my post too serious....was just trying to emulate how easy it is for these scribes to conjure up about anything they want when writing an article. I'm surprised the NYDN didn't take some crazy angle like that to counter the NYPost.
You have to read between the lines if you want to know who or what to believe. When you have read the tabloids like I have since the 1970's, you are able to parse things and see what is fact and what is conjecture.
