whether this story is true or not the fact remains that US jets fans deserve better than this nonsense. we haven't sniffed a superbowl in 40 plus years, they rip us off for psl's, make us play in either a crap stadium or the giants stadium, and are constantly losing good coaches for inferior morons(carroll>kotite, belichek>groh).

enough is enough. fans need to start boycotting all things nyjets until Johnson is gone. I know it's hard for someone who is getting ripped off already with psl's and ridiculous ticket prices, but that is what you get when you are a sucker who fell for the sales pitch to buy those things.

fans need to bite the bullet NOW, so hopefully they won't be getting ripped off for the next 20 years with these psl's and tickets. fight back now or the pain will never end.....

....because clearly this a$$-clown Johnson, who has never worked a day in his life, is not going to clean this mess up when he needs to hire a wall street head hunter to find fixes to this mess.....

If the is true, (which we may never know) what HC is going to want to come in to replace Ryan?

Normally I'd agree with you 100%, but the Jets are different with the moronic Woody Johnson as owner. That may have been the only way Idzik saw that he could get Woody to allow him to fire Rex. If so, while it would piss me off greatly that Idzik intentionally blew a draft in order to sabotage Rex, it would at least be understandable, and could be a franchise definining moment. He did save cap space to set things up for the next HC. OTOH, the fact that he blew a draft with 12 picks that could have gone a long way towards building a championship roster is pretty much unforgivable, regardless of the reason why. If the story is true, then I'd have to think that Idzik feared that if he fixed the WR & CB positions in the draft this year, that it would give enough talent to win enough games to enable Rex to keep his job, and he believes (as I do) that the Jets would never be able to win a SB or sustain success with Rex as HC.

So basically, I'm torn. The problem is that we have an idiot dilettante as an owner. With him making decisions all bets are off on the team ever having any real or lasting success. Idzik may have seen this as an opportunity to show Woody how little he knows about the game and convince him to let him (Idzik) have full control over player and coaching personnel. I'm sure Idzik would like to keep his job and be able to function as a normal GM does with any other NFL team. If he did intentionally sabotage Rex, it was a ballsy move, but if it results in the the Jets getting a real (quality) HC and achieving the sustainable success/competitiveness that Idzik envisions and getting Woody removed from the decision-making process, I could forgive Idzik. In fact, if he intentionally blew this draft to sabotage Rex, that could change my opinion about Idzik and his abilities to handle the draft, because right now, I'm pretty down on Idzik's abilities vis-a-vis player talent and team needs.

Regardless, there's no way this article is true. Whatever else one can say about Idzik, he's not stupid, and he wouldn't admit doing something like that. It would not only cost him his job, but prevent his ever getting another GM job, and maybe even another job of any kind in the NFL.

The writing was on the wall all season. In order for Idzik to land this job he was forced to keep Rex. That's why a lot of other maybe/probably better GM's turned this job down. Rex wasn't an Idzik guy but Rex had enough credit built up here to stay with the two AFC championship game appearances.
Last year we go from 5-8 to finish 8-8 with a 5 win talent team. Idzik had to know we were a worst team then our record..but it was enough to put Idzik in a place where he couldn't really fire Rex. If he did the Jets poor 2014 record would be all on his and his new coach's plate.

Idzik said "Fuck You" to Rex and his chances to succeed enough to hang on another year, punted on 2014, and built for 2015 and beyond. If Rex was an Idzik guy he'd reward him last offseason for finishing strong and going 8-8. Instead he hangs onto all of his money except where he has to spend a little..and even those areas besides Decker he went with a cheap option everywhere.

Not a bad plan from Idzik, who likes to think he's the smartest man in the room..Only problem is 2-9 is unacceptable. Even if it gives you the draft pick you really need going forward..2-9 your heads getting called for in New York. He thought Rex would take his fall and he'd skate. There's still a chance it happens.. but as of today and if the embarrassing losses continue the rest of the year both Rex and Idzik will be looking for jobs and something tells me Rex will get another chance first.

That's where the logic doesn't make sense though. If Idzik gave him more pieces and Rex is winning games then why is there a need for Idzik to find a new coach? I can't imagine an employee is that stubborn about choosing his guy to sabotage a season and potentially get himself fired.

Not to mention not for anything but I can't imagine Rex is too hard of a guy to work with at this point. He knows he has some immunity in the organization with Woody but Rex is no moron and I imagine he understands his deficiencies in taking second fiddle to letting the personnel guys handle the offensive side of the ball.

IF this story is true and Rex is being hung to dry, (unpopular moment coming up) IMO Rex should be given another chance, that is just not fair.
Even if this story isn't true I want Idzik gone anyway for some of the most boneheaded decisions we've had the misfortune to witness.
If there was a way to hang onto Rex in some capacity (DC) then we should go all out to do that. I doubt that Rex will get another HC job in the near future, so why not be our DC?

All reporters will claim that unnamed sources is a journalists unalienable right. Of course you would expect their editors to check the sources, but in the case of the Daily News and the Post accuracy is not required. Why all of a sudden is this story coming out esp after Rex's team just got slaughtered.

IMO it makes perfect sense. I think you could give Rex Oliver Luck, Tom Brady or Peyton Manning at QB and he's still find a way to screw it up. I have ZERO faith in Rex's ability as a HC. Zero. Thus, imo it's not just a matter of Idzik wanting to choose his own guy, but rather to hire a guy that he believes would be a competent HC versus the incompetent buffoon we have as a HC now.

I also disagree about Rex being a moron. No one with any real degree of intelligence would have done and said some of the things that Rex has done as HC of the Jets. Look also at his idiotic brother and father. Rex knows defense pretty well and has some degree of creativity, but doesn't seem able to adapt or change for today's NFL. That's about it imo.

Gentleman Jack Daniels, Makers Mark 46, Crown Royal, Woodford Reserve are all wonderful antidotes to watching Jet Football and this trainwreck of a Leadership Team.

This HC job used to be sought after. Now it just might be as toxic as the Raider HC position.

Seriously? I can't believe that any half-way intelligent human being and/or knowledgeable football fan would still want Rex as HC of the team for ANY reason. You have always struck me as being reasonably intelligent. Firing him as HC, but then keeping him as DC is moronic and laughable. That's the kind of stupid thing the team has been doing for years. That's simply unbelievable.

I'm no fan of Idzik's at this point (and never really was), but if he succeeds in ridding the team and its fans of the curse that is Rex Ryan, then I applaud him even if it hurt the team in the short run. Rex Ryan is NOT a competent HC coach. He is a buffoon and needs to go.

I really can't fathom your dislike for Rex. He's done well for this organization regardless of what you want to believe it's just the fact that his time has run out and he needs a change of scenery.

nobody rationale can honestly believe this right?

seriously? we're not falling for this, right?

Don't let your distaste with Ji color your judgement, does this REALLY fit his MO at ALL?

Just because he passed on DRC doesn't mean he's a saboteur.

That's because you love Rex and have blinders on. You are incapable of seeing reality. I loved Rex at first, but had/have the ability to see reality. I'm not blinded by personality. I look at results and consequences of actions.

Rex needs a change of scenery? OMG. You sound like someone who is a fan of Rex and not the team. It's the team that needs a change of scenery from Rex.

    Reasonably intelligent, wow, thank you.

Rex is still one of the best DCs in the NFL, why not keep him? Where did I say I wanted Rex to stay as HC? He's done, he knows it and we all know it.

Oh yah, Idzik definitely told random people during the off-season that he was planning to fire Rex and bring in his own guy because we all know how much of a blabbermouth John Idzik is, a BLABBERMOUTH.

JI tried to sabotage Rex! and also coaches really like rex and respect and fear him and stuff…. point is rex got a raw deal so his reputation can be somewhat upheld after that last woefully unprepared loss, TOTALLY wasn't my client- I mean rex's fault.

AFC coaches don't want to play him! for realz!

When the Colts Sucked for Luck they made it a theme of the season. They didn't say it as an organization but they planted the meme all over the place in the fan base and media and it became the obvious strategy and was seen as a successful attempt to rebuild post-Peyton.

I don't think the Jets would ever do that. It's not in the character of the organization anywhere to give up on a season for any reason. As Jets fans we've all lived through some horrific seasons and there's real baggage attached from those years. I think the Jets just got very unlucky with both the young CB's getting IR'd and with Geno failing to significantly improve on last season's debacle. They got no improvement out of Brian Winters at LG and Willie Colon's penalty issues continued. That's kind of a recipe for failure and that's what happened to them.

The defense has gotten worse under Rex. You don't fire a guy from one position and then keep him in another capacity. It's that kind of thinking that has made the Jets a circus and laughingstock of the NFL. It's ideas like firing Rex as HC and keeping him as DC that demotes you to "reasonbly" intelligent. IMO no truly intelligent human being would want to Rex around the team in any capacity, even as janitor. Your intelligence and football logic are blinded by love for Rex's personality and who he is as a man.
