Looked great after week 12. I'm still trying to put my finger on exactly what happened after that. I'm sure injuries to key players (Jenkins, Favre) didn't help.

ftr - I'm not saying a qb new to the system isn't at a disadvantage to the guys that know the system. I'm just saying they also have advantages over the guys with little to no experience.

How do you know Clemens isn't going to be a superstar? As of right now Clemens would be the better choice over Ratliff. Hes actually started 8 games and has been in the system longer. Why does everyone have a hardon for Ratliff all he did was throw a few bombs to a really fast guy that was being covered by a bunch of 2nd and 3rd string DBs.

    Exactly.

With all his experience behind, Favre couldn't do much after week 13. He looked horrible one series after another. Kept chucking interception after interception. By the end of the season, Jets missed the playoff. Since I didn't even like Favre trade, I was very upset by then too.

Anyway... by the same token, that new franchise QB - whoever that has to be - will have similar adversities that he cannot go over, right? Doesn't that diminish the "necessity" of that coveted franchise QB?

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

I know it's more than harsh to pin all the blame on one position - football is a team sports after all. During the 1-4 debacle, Jets defense couldn't get off the field, while Jets offense couldn't stay on the field. The entire team is to blame. By the same token, if Jets are to succeed, it would have to be a team effort. I am more than comfortable with the three young kids for this reason. Rex seems to understand this very well. If Jets can get that franchise QB with minimal loss - fine. More power to them. But no QB is worth a year's worth of draft picks. Giving two day-1 picks for but a mere player is just hurting the team in the long run.

Well, the same way I knew the Favre trade would be a disaster. I don't know certain, but I've watched football for over 40 years and if you're a fan of the game you can get a feeling for players just watching how they play. I'm not talking statistics, I'm talking how they look on the field, regardless of the situation. I've seen enough of Clemens to feel he's just never going to be a great QB. I'm not in love with Ratliff, but in limited playing time he's looked the part AND had the statistical results.

Clemens showed poise behind that human turnstile of an offensive line the Jets had in 07. What would you do if you were trying to drive a team 90 yards downfield and a 300 lb DE gets by your LG completly untouched? Clemens deserves just as much of a chance to lead this team as Ratliff.

is the only qb on the roster that we know can take a hit and get back up.he is one tough dude.add to the fact that he has 4 yrs in the system and i think we have our starter.
