I would pass not that he is horrible but don't need the other issues he brings with him. the dude is average at best at his worst he is a possible franchise killer.. so if it is worth for an average player have at it
Rex Ryan just doesn't learn, he's going to flame out in Buffalo in two years max. Richie Icognito has been on the decline for the last few years, and he was terrible in 2013... he's not quick or agile, and he doesn't display great technique or power. He's not This is a typical Rex Ryan move.
Not sure this is even a Rex move. Not his specialty offense. Whaley is still there even though all kinds of rumors the Bills were after a big name to run the team. You would assume Rex was consulted on this considering Richie's baggage.
Exactly. The smartest thing Bills ownership could ever do would be to get out of Rex's way, let him build the team he wants, and encourage his personality. Win or lose, Rex make the Bills relevant on personality and play-style alone. If I'm the ownership, I tell the GM to get Rex a QB that is at least league-average (and above all else, smart) and then acquire whatever defensive pieces he asks for. 13-10 wins count the same as 37-21 wins. As for Incognito? He got railroaded and what the media (and the league, and the Dolphins, and Martin) did to him should be criminal.
To be fair, he brought a lot of that on himself. He's a total douchebag but his teammates seem to love him and rally around (unless you are the thin skinned type). Folks are crazy if they think he's done--he is going to be the cement for a tough nosed hard fighting team. Good for Rex and good for Incognito. _
If you're in a group, and everyone in the group thinks you're great, are you a douchebag? How about if you're a leader selected by that group? Incognito was, by all accounts, recognized as a team leader and well liked. He was doing his best to get the one guy who nobody seemed to like (Martin) accepted by the group and to feel more comfortable in the group dynamic; which was exactly what the coaching staff asked him to do. At the same time, Martin (who wanted nothing to do with being part of the group) quits playing and blames it on the one guy who was trying to help him (because he needed a scapegoat) ... and in doing so assisted the media in branding Incognito as a racist and a homophobe. Pathetic. I wouldn't spit on Martin if he was on fire. If the Dolphins had an ounce of integrity, they would have said to the media (when the story broke), "Look ... Martin is mentally soft. And because he's mentally soft, none of the other players like or respect him. So we told Incognito, who is a guy everyone on the team respects, to do whatever he had to do to get Martin to be accepted by the others; and part of that was helping Martin to become more tough. Incognito called Martin the N-word once? Guess what? Every black player in the NFL calls every other black player in the NFL the N-word 15 times a day. Incognito called Martin a "faggot" once? Guess what? Every player in the NFL calls every other player in the NFL a faggot a couple times a day. Do you know why? Because in the NFL the N-word is a term of endearment and in the NFL the word faggot is a word used to tease friends for being soft. It may or may not be right, but it is commonplace and accepted throughout the leauge. So let's not pretend Incognito did anything different than 99.9% of every other player in the NFL regarding language or bullying. What Incognito did do was use some of his political capital (his respect with the other players) to get a guy nobody liked to be a little more accepted by his teammates. And in response? Martin called him a racist and a homophobe and encouraged the media to sh*t on him in order to deflect from his own ability to fit-in and play at an NFL level."
Whoa whoa whoa. I'm not saying he was not railroaded and the Jonathan Martin incident wasn't blown way out of proportion. And as great as a teammate and a leader as he is, he has a reputation throughout the league as being extremely dirty, the guys wrap sheet throughout college and the pros is as long as his arms. He's a leader and a good teammate. But he's not a nice guy. He's a douchebag. _
Richie wasn't railroaded because he was guilty. But he was blackballed. Rex was hired as coach. Not to run the organization. It would be a disaster. So I hope they do it.
while I agree martin is a pussy, let's not forget incognito was known as a dipshit before any of that bs came out. walking penalty, not a bad player but hardly worth the trouble imo.
He was a Pro Bowler the year before he was suspended. I wouldn't claim he was the best guard in the league, but I would say he was way better than average and likely a Top 10 NFL guard.
I stand by my previous comments: When the league railroaded him, he was "way better than average" and "likely a Top 10 NFL guard". Also, I'm not trying to convince you.
I think you're over rating the guy based solely on one alternate probowl selection in his 10 year career.
I have never been a fan of Incognito. Before the bullying in Miami he was regarded as the dirtiest player in the NFL and a bad apple. But that being said I have no problem with the signing. Incognito is playing for a 2nd chance and to continue his career at what I am sure is a bargain salary. He has an opportunity to not only resurrect his career but somewhat soften the damage to his reputation with a season of redemption. I would bet on this guy having a good year in 2015. Maybe not 2016 but he is a cheap no risk signing for a team that needs guards. He brings toughness and an attitude. But he will be 32 this year and one has to question how much does he have left. He may not make the team. Rex has a chip on his shoulder and he likes players with chips on their shoulder. It seems like a good fit. I am not going to be rooting for Incognito but I do believe everyone deserves a second chance. It will be interesting to see what he and the Bills do next year.
There are many blatant homers on this forum, but you really do put every one of them to shame. The best part is that you seem in earnest belief that you are an honest fan. I guess they are right when they talk about ignorance...
Who'd you want Rex to play instead of Colon? It's not like Faneca and Will Shields were on the bench because Rex wouldn't take Colon out of the game. How is it Rex's fault that we had one semi-competent (penalty prone) guard on the entire roster.
