yes he will 2010: $7.5 million base salary, no signing bonus 2011: $18 million option bonus (due on the first day of the first league year after 2010, accounting for the chance of a lockout), $7 million base salary 2012: $7.5 million base salary (guaranteed for injury) 2013: $6 million base salary (guaranteed for skill)
Here are the Revis contract details from rotoworld. I don't think I've ever heard anyone say he's due $25 million in 2011. 9/6/2010: Signed a four-year, $46 million contract. The deal contains $32.5 million guaranteed, all paid in the first two seasons. 2010: $7.5 million (+ $18 million option bonus), 2011: $7 million, 2012: $7.5 million, 2013: $6 million, 2014-2016: Under Contract, 2017: Free Agent
Hope every rah, rah Revis lover realizes that up to now he has provides zero that is zero production in the 5 games we have played & we are 4-1. Now he will be out at least another 5 weeks so his non production will rise to 9 games or more which =s more then 1/2 of the season. Maybe in looking back RR panic & pushed Tanny & Woody to get a supposed all world player that in the ultimate end we may have not even needed in the 1st place. As more time goes by it appears the NYJs bought a huge pig in the poke:sad:
Didn't pay attention to how the payments are made to Revis. $25million in one season is incredible & it'll be a very tough pill to swallow if Revis doesn't turn things around before this season ends & I'm sure Jets will release some quality players to accomodate this salary. Perhaps let Braylon walk without even offering a contract? As a Jets fan I want to think Revis is going finish this season as with the great shutdown corner skills he showed us prior to his contract signing. If I wasn't observing this situation through Jet's rose-colored glasses, I'd definitely be more worried. We've all seen examples of player's performance going downhill permanently after the big contract (from every team in every sport). For now, I've got faith that as long as Rex is coach, we won't have any big-pay players dogging it. From his demeanor in interviews and Hard Knocks, I don't see him afraid of confronting a player who's not bringing it. === On another note: The more I read the Broncos injury reports, the more I'm thinking Revis should sit & then take off the bye-week. Looks like they'll have to play a young corner who's suffering from Kyle Wilson syndrome & just isn't turning his head around in time to avoid the big penalties & missing their main pass rusher. Combine that w/ Jets running game & I'm hoping Jets will just overpower them offensively; So great defensive game isn't needed.
$18 million option bonus is due on the first day of the first league year after 2010, accounting for the chance of a lockout. His 2011 contract is $7 million. So we are paying him $25 million.
he is not due $25 million next year. That is incorrect. he is due $18 million option bonus on the first day of the next football year plus $7 million.
You are correct. I just verified in two places that is how the contract is structured. My bad. Ok. do you feel the Jets should honor the $18 million option if Revis does not start playing like he did last year.
I'm not exactly sure how the dead money works when it comes to a signing bonus, but if we're on the hook regardless we really can't. It costs more (from a cap perspective) to cut him than keep him in that scenario. Code: Year Salary Cap Number Dead Money if Cut Cap Savings if Cut 2010 $8,865,916 $17,569,752 ($8,703,836) 2011 $11,265,916 $26,531,836 ($15,265,920) 2012 $11,765,920 $22,265,920 ($10,500,000) 2013 $9,000,000 $18,000,000 ($9,000,000) 2014 $6,000,000 $9,000,000 ($3,000,000) 2015 $6,000,000 $6,000,000 $0 2016 $6,000,000 $3,000,000 $3,000,000
Good link. Lets hope he improves. I would rest him now and hope he is good for the end of the year. We can win the next few games without him. We need him 100%.
To the fickle fans down on Revis... Did he hold out? Yes. Did he get more than the Jets originally offered? Yes. Was it "right" for him to seek more than the Jets originally offered? Well, as fans we don't like to see this kind of thing get in the way of football, but it's a business, too. For the player and the team. So I am sure he felt he was right to seek more, and the Jets did give him more. So was it Revis's fault the holdout lasted as long as it did? I can't say who was at more fault for that. As it played out were there opportunities to settle the deal significantly earlier? Would the Jet FO have done that at the eventual numbers they did agree to? I don't really know. I don't think anyone here really knows. But the point is people here assume it was ALL Revis's fault it took so long to settle. I don't think it is fair to assume that. If you want to say the hamstring injury was directly tied to the length of the holdout, I think there's some blame to go around to others beside Revis himself. Yeah it's easy to say he shouldn't have held out. We had those debates in the summer. But the length of time it took is the issue here, I take it. I don't think it fair to place all the blame on Revis for that.
Revis has looked tentative out there....he's obviously worried that he'll reinjure his hammy. We all know what kind of skill level he possesses......we just need to be patient.
I guess as fans we were hoping he would've kept himself in shape. We heard he mimicked the Jets practice schedule, if they did a 2 a day, he would too. I know he can't emulate TC, but he surely could've tried harder IMO. When he arrived he looked fat almost to me. I'm no way in hell giving up on him, just hoping this season isn't going to go down in history as a "What If" surrounding the Revis saga.
Is it just a coincidence that every time he gets toasted like a walk on rookie that he doesn't want to play for the next three weeks?
