I'm willing to give him some time to get his act and health straightened out. We cant turn back the clock on the last couple of months, its time to look forward. We can get by without him for now, but come the playoffs, if we want to go all the way, we will need both Revis and Cromartie back there. We saw what happened last year.
Look fans are pissed with him for how he handled the holdout instead of playing as true NYJ team member. There was all this talk of guessing that he would wreck a hammy which is exactly what happen. Then he says he was 100% before the Minny game & we now know he was not so fans wonder if he is dogging it now he got his $$$$$$$$ just like his uncle did when he pulled the same thing way back when
Sick of Revis, he holds out on his team and then gets injured because of lack of training. Next thing you know he's shooting off his mouth and then can't back up anything and he's injured again. I won't cry if he gets cut one day
Need to shut it down for consecutive weeks and check things out then.. Better to be safe then sorry at this point.. Rex is right.. the team can win without him.. but will need him to solidify things..
Yes, yes, yes but that does not deal with the issue of really how much didt DR really add to the team when we are 4-1 without him. Has to make you wonder if our HC may have overrated him just a tad or 2 :jets:
And like what most players said, sometimes holding out is part of the business side of sports. I'm OK with it. It happened, it's over with. Do you really think if he was dogging it with guys like Bart Scott on the team, we wouldn't be hearing about it through them? Come on! The guy hurt himself. In a speed position, he needs his legs. I'm not reading anymore into it that has been reported. All of a sudden, Revis' hammy is more famous than Rickey Henderson's.
The Broncos will be missing 5 guys on defense...3 starters .. and have no running game. Tell revis to sit his ass down. Run the ball 50 times and play some defense. Should be bale to hit Orton since other teams have. Just avoid stupid 3rd and 20 blitzes and leaving single coverage. Play safe at time and force a punt.
I don't think they overrated him at all, the coaching staff was here and saw what he did last year, plus there is a 3-year body of work to evaluate him on and he's entering his prime. Yes we can win without him but we're better with him, so let him get better and then get him back. The fact that we did get to 4-1 buys us that option. Denver is important but not a must-win, then a bye, then two NFC teams that don't factor in tiebreaking, one is at home (Green Bay) and the other is a bad team (Detroit). Revis did come up and make a good solo tackle on Adrian Peterson the other night, kind of set the tone for the run defense, and he recovered a loose ball and ran it back a little ways. He's contributed a little but if we get him to 100% he'll be important if/when we get to the playoffs and have to deal with the Colts again, or the Ravens or whomever.
Lets hope. Rex said he wants him to play. If we can play like he did monday he probably should since we need our passing D to be on top of its game.
Because later on down the line (there will be a salary cap in the future) the Jets might be able to keep another player or two instead of paying the increased salary that will be given to Revis. Only if Revis is playing like he did in 2009 is he worth the amount of money he is going to be making. It's as simple as that. If he gets healthy and improves his performance to the a level of close to 2009 then I don't think you'll hear a lot of people complaining. People either like you if you perform and show quiet confidence or are boastful and back it up. When you start to talk trash and then can't back it up (becuse of injury or any other reason) people are bound to get on your case.
I love how the salary cap comes up any time a guy is hurt. People on here are so quick to cut and fire everyone the minute something isn't right. It's football, people get hurt. How much are we paying Jenkins for his six plays this year? It happens. Revis will be back, as long as they're smart about it. If he can play this week, be effective and not aggravate the injury so much the better.
That is the risk you take when you want to keep a player. Five games into a 64 game contract and we are already worried that he will not live up to it? Premature at best.
Agreed. The play on Peterseon at the beginning of the game was excellent. That was an ecellent tackle by Revis. However, the issue is that with the holdout and the coin that Revis is getting he has to perform "nearly perfectly" in the eyes of many to be worth it. Every mistake that he makes is going to be magnified. It just comes with the territory. If he didn't want the scrutiny he shouldn't have held out and even intimated that he might do so in the futue.
Nice post. It's crazy to say the Jets overrated him because the team is presently 4-1. People have such short memories. The Jets made it as far as teh Champ game last year. That was great. The first time since 98. But just like 98 it ended there. Why did it end there? Well there were a number of things, but my recollection was we all pretty much saw and agreed that the main thing was that the Jets could not cover Indy's second and third receivers. The lack of talent at cb behind Revis was the biggest hole on the team. So they go and get Cro and Kyle. Kyle is still a work in progress. Revis has been out. THe team is 4-1. But that record does not include this year's Champ game. The playoffs are still a long way off. Let's just pretend the Jets get to the playoffs. And face a team with quality wideouts, depth past their number one receiver. Will the Jets be better positioned if Revis is back and healthy? Have some faith in the CS and FO. Cro was not brought here to replace Revis. He was brought in to supplement Revis. Hopefully a fully healthy Revis.
I think what has so many upset is the hammy was/is a direct result of his holdout & not a so called football injury ala Jenks
