Freeman has outperformed Sanchez through most of his career. It's an upgrade in every category. It's not a huge upgrade, but it is an upgrade nonetheless.

The Jets don't need an upgrade at QB, they need a franchise QB.

Taking on Freeman would just confuse things for a year or two as the Jets came to the likely conclusion that he was not a franchise QB.

If Freeman was likely to be a franchise guy there is no way in hell that the Bucs let him go in a trade.

Freeman stinks too. Another QB who does not see the field and throws dumb INTs. Yes he has a stronger arm---so what?

so if Revis isn't moved by April 25, can we all assume this was an elaborate troll job by Idzik and co and Revis will stay a Jet?

Why is it a troll job by Idzik and the Jets? They haven't said they were shopping him. They never said they were actively trying to trade him. All the news has been from Tampa's end and random media rumors NOT from the Jets.

No we probably can conclude that nobody including the Bucs made an offer that moved the Jets to move Revis.

I think this could easily go into early August if Revis is traded. I also think he could just play the year for the Jets and then have the market sort itself out next spring.

Which would be completely moronic cause we would take $9 million in dead cap in 2014. He must be traded/

I'd bet on him winning out a training camp competition over Sanchez, Garrard & Tebow. I thought he took big steps last year. He threw more TDs than Sanchez ever has in a season. I'm pretty sure he was ranked 7th in the league in Tds, and in the top 10 in yards as well, despite missing games. His comp% was weaker than average, however, and he was close to Sanchez in that category. Freeman might be a good 1 year fill in, while we groom a potential rookie QB as well. Izzy would be genius if he could pull this off, though, with or without Freeman involved.

  9. LONG TERM the Jets need a franchise QB. Short term they absolutely do NOT.

All the Jets offense has to be is average & Rex's formula has proven the ability to go very far. Even in 09 & 10 with extremely inconsistent offensive(and especially QB) play this team made it to the brink of a championship.

Is there any doubt the Jets would have won a bunch of more games in both 11 & 12 if the offense wouldn't have turned the ball over so often? As bad as the offense has looked otherwise it has been turnovers that has killed this team.

That tells me a competent QB w/ even average accuracy, arm strength & playmaking ability could be very successful in this structure. Yes, they should absolutely strive for more..but even a mdest upgrade over Sanchez could do the trick from a win-loss perspective.

The best thing about David Garrard, the thing that makes him a great stopgap, is that if he is healthy and plays well and the Jets do very well it will not change the fact that they need to go get a QB by next year at the latest.

Any 27 year old stopgap is going to be inferior to what the Jets have in Garrard because he's very likely to confuse things at a time when real clarity is needed.

Vinny was a great stopgap in 2000, after the window had closed, because he was going to have to be replaced sooner rather than later and the Jets drafted Chad alongside him.

And BTW, short term the Jets need a franchise QB. Long term is never the right time frame for finding a key asset. Long term means maybe never given how hard it is to find a franchise QB.

The Jets should draft at least one QB this year that they could see becoming the guy. They don't need to do it early but they need to do it before they are done.

  11. Maybe thats the route they have to go until the right young prospect falls into their laps. Look at the way all of the elite QBs have made their way onto the teams that drafted them. Brady,Rivers,Rodgers,Eli,Roethlisberger & Flacco...Everyone of those teams never seems to force things at the QB position.Instead they wait for the guy they really like & if they're within striking distance they make it happen. That's the right route for the Jets to go w/ this. A Laid back California kid who looks good in shorts is not the guy to step up for the Jets. They need toughness to compliment Ryan's personality & overcome the tough NYC spotlight.Maybe he doesn't make all the throws or isn't the best in workouts..but someone who knows how to make plays & move the ball in the face of pressure.

Meanwhile competent established veteran players maybe the way to go till the next Namath shows up on draft day.

The Patriots had a #1 pick at QB in Drew Bledsoe. The Chargers had a #2 pick at QB in Drew Brees who was taken 2 years after a #1 pick in Ryan Leaf. The Packers had a hall of famer in Favre. The Giants had one of the most talented QB's in the NFL in Kerry Collins and then got a hall of famer as a stopgap in Kurt Warner. The Steelers had a mess at QB with Stewart and then Maddox, which when it bottomed out in 2003 they took the QB in 2004. The Ravens had a mess at QB from the moment they hit Baltimore because the franchise guy in Cleveland had retired. They spent a 1st round in 2003 and then filled with a hall of famer in 2006 before getting Flacco.

All of those teams either had their franchise guy or they were looking for him. This is true of the Steelers also, Kordell Stewart was definitely the guy they thought was going to run their offense for a decade, he just turned out to be not that good.

I would 100% trade Revis and Sanchez for Freeman. I don't think the Bucs would accept that offer, but we might as well test how much Schiano isn't sold on him.

This is an insane idea for both franchises and for the same reason. It leaves them without a player they can reasonably envision as their franchise QB.

For the Bucs acquiring Revis and giving up Freeman makes no sense because if Freeman is not a franchise QB for them then the odds on them winning anything are low.

For the Jets it would be insane because they have no reason to believe that Freeman would be their franchise QB. He hasn't been that yet for the Bucs and there is little reason to believe that he'd do better in NY with more pressure, in worse weather and with less talent around him.

I think the Bucs are probably screwed at this point whether they get Revis or not. This is mainly because I think Freeman is not likely to be a franchise QB for them in the end. They're almost in worse shape than the Jets because they're still wondering if their 1st round pick 4 years ago is good enough to get it done.

I think if the Jets give up Revis without getting at least one really good asset in return we're probably pretty screwed also in the short term. I think trying to figure out if Freeman was any good would be a detour into the woods that we really don't need after the last 5 years.

6-10 to 8-8 is an upgrade nonetheless. Do you take it? I sure as hell don't.

And Freeman had Blount and Martin running for him. Do you honestly think Freeman is an upgrade over Sanchez? Really? I mean, REALLY!?!?!? By how much?

Freeman is a significant upgrade over Sanchez. But that doesn't mean he's that good—I see him at best reaching the Rivers/Schaub/Cutler "good but not quite elite" level. Again, though, that would be a significant upgrade. If they could get Freeman and a 1st for Sanchez and Revis, I think that's a great deal.

Why is Freeman now being talked about as if the rumors included him? With just Sanchez being added to the talk we were almost reaching trades of Madden like proportions and probably about .01% of it actually happening, throw Freeman in there and you reach the realm of Super Madden trades. It ain't happening.

As far as it being a significant upgrade, is it the 58.8 career completion percentage that awes you? Yes, Freeman had a better season last year but over the last 4 years the stats for both are very underwhelming.

Why would they even contemplate this move? It would not make them significantly better and in fact by taking draft picks off the table by including Freeman the whole deal looks worse for the Jets.

98 pages discussing an unsubstiantiated rumor and now we are adding to this farce by discussing sanchez being traded.... HAHAHAHAHAH, not one of these hack reporters like cimini has any verifiable sources at all for anything they are putting out there. it really is hilarious to see how nuts this is. i loved the sirius NFL guys who "feel for Revis" for having to take a private jet from AZ to NJ in order to pick up 3M.

The best part of this has been Idzik who has said nothing. The worst part as always are the "fans" who believe everything they read.

Exactly the Jets have said nothing much except well explore any venue to make our team better

The most telling this is that Woody said he'd sign Revis to an extension if Idzik felt it was worth it so the way I see it Johnny is tryin to either find a trade down partner to gather picks so he can add depth along with keeping Revis and if that fails then hell trade Revis
