When was the last time anything good was reported about the Jets? Usually the good things are "Rex Ryan says XYZ", and it's absolutely true that he said it. Rex, himself might be speculating, but the report is true. The difference is between speculation and stuff that is backed up by verifiable facts. This negative Revis talk has no facts behind it whatsoever. He wants 16 million according to a dude familiar with his thinking allegedly. Third party unverifiable info. Revis is unhappy with his contract. Actually his quotes say the opposite, but we'll just blindly believe it because some hack beat writer says so or since he didn't answer a question. You have to realize these reporters get their website hits because they intentionally focus on negative things that will rile up the fans. This isn't anything new. Positive speculation is still speculation and I will admit it, just like Kipers article about the Jets getting better this year. It is definitely unverifiable speculation, even though it's positive. There's no margin of error for comparing a fact to a guess. It's either true and verifiable or it's not. Positive/negative is irrelevant in regards to that, BUT negativity is the nature of the media, so we see it more often.

The problem is that if Tampa improves then the 1st pick in 2014 will drop in value. If Tampa makes the playoffs you are looking at a potential 20th pick next year or worse. 13 is good value this year and it can be traded back for a first next year or a 2nd & 3rd for stockpiling in 2014.

Wanting more 2014 picks is a great idea cause you are thinking Franchise QB but there is no gurantee we would end up with a 13 in 2014.

thats one way to look at it.....

so hard to predict here cause of so many variables at work - at even some that may not have revealed themselves yet.

if i had to choose i think i would stay put on the 13 and attempt to trade the 9 to a team targeting a player that has slipped a spot or 2.

of course depending on how many spots that team has to leapfrog, we could get another 2nd or 3rd rounder, or combination thereof.

and in this draft an extra 2 and/or 3 should be a player with immediate starter potential

I am all for stockpiling for next year. This year we still have some scrubs like Sanchez on the books. Next year will be a better year in terms of cap space. If Tampa gives 2014 1st, 2nd and 4th I will take it. Tampa won't make the play offs. NFC is loaded. They have Atlanta and New Orleans to beat in the division. Also Green Bay, Redskins, Giants, Packers are all contenders. Tampa will pick less than 16 next year.

The Jets are already targeting extra picks next year with the free agent strategy. They're going to have at least 10 picks next year. Getting to 13 or 14 isn't all that good a use of resources. Better to have 10+ this year and then 10+ next year again. That's a sounder use of resources when you are rebuilding.

Hopefully Idzik will use those picks better than Parcells did the last time we had double digit picks in back to back drafts.

NFL.com: Bucs need Revis more than Jets need to trade him

    A semi-favorable Jets article?????

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap10...ade-more-important-to-buccaneers-than-ny-jets

It's so easy to rip the New York Jets. You do it. I do it. They've earned it.

But what if, perhaps, just maybe, they're handling this Darrelle Revis saga with aplomb? What if, perhaps, just maybe, the New York Jets know exactly what they are doing?

Revis is an ex-Jet-in-waiting, as I wrote in February. Now it seems there's only one team involved in the Jets' attempts to trade him: the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Is it possible, perhaps, just maybe, that the Bucs need Revis more than the Jets need to get rid of him?

I'd argue that this is absolutely the case.

The pendulum has swung. April's draft cannot come and go without Tampa trading for Revis, not if the Bucs want to win in 2013 -- not if the brass wants to stay employed.

Without question, the Jets want to trade Revis. He's done, as he should be. As Albert Breer reported back in January, Jets owner Woody Johnson talked to candidates for the Jets' general manager job about what to do with Revis. Likely still angry about Revis' prior holdout, Johnson has rightly had enough of the star defender, who is seemingly never happy with the Jets, more interested in paper green than "Gang Green."

Revis -- who is coming off of a torn anterior cruciate ligament -- wants $15 million per season. That's crazy talk. Bill Parcells said as much. Phil Simms said the same on SiriusXM, citing the way the current rules favor the quarterback and the offense.

If Revis shows up to the Jets' offseason program, he will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year, able to sign anywhere -- including with the New York Giants or New England Patriots. And the Jets will get nothing back.

Now, since the free world knows Johnson wants to trade the best cornerback in the NFL, some might assume that the Jets and new general manager John Idzik have no leverage.

    That's just not true.

It's been an open secret that Tampa Bay craves Revis. Bucs coach Greg Schiano has loved Revis since his Rutgers teams were facing off against the Pittsburgh product. And while Schiano is entrenched, it's fair to say that Tampa Bay general manger Mark Dominik is "general managing," if you will, for his job. I like Dominik a lot and think he's performed solidly, but he needs to upgrade the talent.

The Bucs' pass defense was an embarrassment last season, and they can't afford not to fix it. Consider the rest of the NFC South. Matt Ryan, Roddy White and Julio Jones lead the Atlanta Falcons' aerial attack. Sean Payton is coming back to coach and team with Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints. Cam Newton and Steve Smith are electrifying for the Carolina Panthers.

According to Ian Rapoport, the Bucs are willing to give up the 13th overall pick, but the Jets want even more. And this is easy to understand. They need the picks. After all, New York only needs help and starters at quarterback, running back, receiver, offensive line, tight end and linebacker, and in the defensive backfield. Other than that, the Jets are in excellent shape.

What is Tampa Bay going to do, not trade for Revis? Are the Bucs going to play defense with 10 guys on the field? Are they going to tell their fans that they're comfortable finishing in last place?

The Bucs need starting corners. Ronde Barber -- who isn't signed, by the way -- is long in the tooth; the future Hall of Famer is more of a safety at this stage of his career. Aqib Talib is a Patriot. Eric Wright is the best corner they have -- and that's not good. Tampa Bay shopped him this offseason.

There were several solid corners available on the open market, but Dominik rightly eschewed the field, choosing instead to wait for the Jets star, who is simply the best in the business. He cuts off half of the field. He lets you blitz. Now all the Bucs have to do is add him.

Revis is the kind of player Greg Schiano dreams of at night, as Dominik knows. He's also a marquee attraction who can help sell season tickets in Tampa to both frustrated Bucs fans and transplanted New Yorkers living in the Tampa area. After letting sack artist Michael Bennett join the Seattle Seahawks, the Bucs have the cap space and the money to pay Revis top dollar.

What are they going to do, draft a cornerback with the 13th overall pick? Dee Milliner is going to be long gone by the time the Bucs are up. And while I live for the NFL draft, we all know the crapshoot factor involved.

Yahoo! Sports reported that the Bucs are getting frustrated with the Jets. Meanwhile, per our good friend Rich Cimini at ESPN.com, the Jets are insisting that Revis must show up for voluntary workouts in order to receive a $3 million bonus.

I love it. I love the reports. I love the leaks. I love the drama.

With the draft right around the corner, NFL.com ranks the top prospects available at every position on offense and defense. More ...
It actually looks like Idzik is adept is playing poker and won't blink. He has the best hand. He has the player the Bucs covet. Dominik knows it.

And while this would be a great deal for the Jets, it would be a major -- not a minor -- victory for Tampa Bay.

A healthy Revis should significantly up the win total for the Bucs. I like Schiano as their head coach. Dominik had a great draft last year, highlighted by the selections of running back Doug Martin, underrated linebacker Lavonte David and safety Mark Barron. Veteran receiver Vincent Jackson is a beast. Offensive lineman Carl Nicks is coming back. Even with the erratic Josh Freeman at quarterback, the Bucs can absolutely compete for the playoffs if they trade for Revis.

Failing to land Revis could equal last place for the Bucs -- and a job hunt for Dominik.

You tell me how this is going to play out.

Perhaps, just maybe, the Jets know this.

    Yep.

Darrelle Revis is the best CB in football. The Bucs badly need a CB. It's going to happen. It's just a question of the Jets getting an appropriate return to make the deal.

parcells early round picks did not make any impact here, he did find good mid-late (ferguson) round value at times.

guess randy thomas was good for the time he was here and farrior played his prime in pitt....

i have always thought not getting 1 or 2 impact guys from those late 90's drafts was one of the reasons they couldn't put together a more serious run from 2000 to 2003.

The circle jerk constantly making stupid snide jokes about the Jets for the inbred commentators need to stop.

That being said, I don't think they're that desperate for Revis. However, they keep upping their offer. I wouldn't be surprised if he got traded, but I also wouldn't be surprised if he got an extension at a reasonable amount.

Parcells had a different motivation in 1997 and 1998 than Idzik has right now. Parcells motivation was to win right now because Leon Hess was dying.

You can't compare different GM's with different motivations just because both had a similar number of picks.

It would be funny if Izdik drafted the CB to prevent him from getting within reach of TB's pick.

Our definiton of resonable is very different than #24's? Heck, I would say 10-11 M for a CB is more than resonable, to Revis its a slap in the face...f

My point is that most people believe the positive stuff (the offer for Revis is being upped) and completely dismiss the negative stuff (Revis wants a lot of money, Idzik is trying to trade Revis, Woody doesn't think he can re-sign Revis, Revis would rather continue to rehab with his trainer than go to the OTAs). Don't you think that is even a little weird? The media makes up the negative stuff but the positive stuff is fact that is verifiable? If the negative stuff is wrong because there is no direct quote, why is the positive stuff right when there is no direct quote? Is someone in the Bucs organization (not a source, someone specific) being quoted that the Bucs have no upped their offer and that a 1,3 and 6 are now on the table? Most people are taking that as gospel.

Interesting point of view. I think it's somewhere in the middle though, plus it's actually three sided: The Jets, the Bucs and the Revis camp.

For the Jets they don't need to trade Revis but it probably is the best thing for them to do at this point considering they are trying to rebuild.

The Bucs don't need to acquire Revis but it would make a huge difference for them. They have much more to worry as far as potential job loss than Idzik does, though.

For Revis there are implications as he's going to want a long term deal coming off the injury, whether it comes from the Jets (unlikely unless the media reports of his demands are massively overstated) or the Bucs doesn't make a difference to him...but I doubt he wants to go into a contract year coming off a season ending injury.

So unless Revis really, really wants to stay a Jet and isn't actually going to demand anywhere near the reported dollar amount it's in everyone's best interest for him to be traded. At that point it's just a matter of figures, both for Revis contract wise and for Jets in trade compensation.

The GM is approaching this the absolutely best way possible. We dont want the 2014 first pick we want the 2013 first. The pick deminishes in value as we move one year forward unless Tampa Bay tanks which is somewhat unlikely, and it prevents us from building the team starting now through the draft, in areas of desperate need such as OG, OT, WR, OLB etc.
Rest assure the GM is not going anywhere for a while, and from what he is done so far, albeit way premature to get crazy, his selection might be the best thing that has happpened to the Jets in a long, long, time.

I don't know what site you usually post on, but on here I see people much more likely to give validity to the negative things and state them as facts constantly, than the positive ones. I bet if we went through this entire thread we'd find way more people supporting/believing the negative speculation than the positive. When I see positive things, I hope they are true, I don't blindly believe them as gospel like people do with the Revis 15+ million statement. Even the article a few posts above stated it like it was absolute fact. It's ridiculous. You should always take what the media says with a grain of salt, whether positive or negative.

    Love the article.....

Many bitch and moan that the Jets don't know what they're doing and should of taken Tampa's first offer and ran with it. Well the Jets didn't do that and reports are the offer has significantly increased...so Ill just sit back and be patient like Idzik instead of the fans who would of already traded Revis for a 1st in 2014 at the most.
