The cap space could also be to cut Mark Sanchez. There are multiple potential avenues in which the Jets lose a player and take a cap hit at the same time.
I dont think so. Rex and Mark are tied togather. I believe Rex was involed with hiring the GM so he is assured Sanchez remains the starter. If Sanchez has a good season they will both be back...
So if he gets a good deal, the trade will happen. I like that strategy, only make trades if they are good. What insight from Mehta. Hasn't this been the case for the last 2 months?
Absolutely could be, it just seems to be more likely for a Revis trade IMO. Either could happen on the 25th.
Have you paid attention at all to what Rex has been saying in the offseason? Sounds like he's dying to move on from Sanchez, but there aren't really any good options out there.
Revis attends the workouts gets bigger faster and stronger signs a long term deal ends his career here goes into the Hall of Fame a NYJet.
anyone can do this. how's this: " sources familiar with the jets thinking confirms a trade of revis could happen as soon as tonite" total bullshit but how can you logically refute what i just said? these guys have nothing.they used up all their good will with the organization and now have to turn any little thing they can find into their next column. so they turn any speculation into a fact in their writing.
Correct. This is simply more of nothing which is all these guys have been peddling for months. they have no information at all that is reliable. so we get meaningless tweets and pointless opinion pieces based on rumors from unnamed sources etc. its all simply hype to keep the fans thinking they know something.
I think there is some other team besides the Bucs that are involved. The front office has kept a tight lid on the moves so far, so I doubt they'd break it on their biggest off season move. I think one other team is involved but wants to see if Revis is healthy before making the plunge. I doubt it's just the Bucs that are a legit match. Teams that I suspect (pure speculation): St. Louis: They have a good corner in Jenkins, and could have an excellent combo with Revis. The RG3 trade gives them multiple picks in the first this year and I believe next year, so they might be more willing to give them up. Since they can keep a first round pick, they can address the offense with that pick, and move to sure up their defense with the Revis trade. Fisher is also known to be a defensive aficionado, who likes to play grind it out games with tough defenses. Dallas: Jones like premier players and he's not shy about paying them either. Their offense is still very good, so what they would want to do is address the defense using their picks. With a good set of LBs and pass rushing ability, having a stud corner could really help them, especially because they have some dynamic QBs in their division. I think their cap is a bit tight, so it might involve us taking on a player maybe, not sure who. These are two off of the top of my head, where he is a fit, although I'm not 100% sure on the cap situation. Although, with only $6 million as his salary this year, I'm sure they could find a way around it. But my whole point being, I wouldn't be surprised at all if the deal we make might not be with Tampa at all, but someone else. Part of us playing hardball to get Revis to participate in the off season workouts might be to show that he is healthy. It'll be further evidenced if reports of him "looking great, better than ever" start being leaked.
Associated Press: Jets' Revis must attend workouts to earn bonuses Now isn't THIS going to be interesting!! http://sports.yahoo.com/news/jets-revis-must-attend-workouts-224206767--nfl.html I guess if he wants that $3 million he'll be there. I think next week the Front Office finds out what they have post injury. From this point forward every day is going to be a crap shoot! (edit - The only part I'm fuzzy about is next week "This" Monday the 8th or the following??)
This has been reported previously as Revis needs to hit 80% of the scheduled off-season workouts. What's starting on the 15th is not the scheduled off-season workouts, it's voluntary workouts until May when the scheduled workouts begin. We're probably not going to get to see the contract but previous reports throw this scenario in doubt. This could easily be an attempt to get the Jets to start engaging in a public debate. Instead the Jets are refusing comment at this point.
Yeah, just looked into it further, for a shitty team, the Rams have no space at all. Bengals make sense too, but not sure if they are going to be splashy. I was trying to think of teams that have a good CB already on the roster so they can pair Revis and elevate the defense to a much higher level. I'm just think that there has to be someone else out there negotiating, that the media just hasn't gotten a hold of. But can't pin point a team.
The Chiefs would be in the conversation if not for the Alex Smith trade. Andy Reid loves CB's and John Dorsey comes out of an organization that has done well with star power at CB recently.
