You responded to me, so I'm not sure if you were talking about me. I think the Jets should have taken the 2014 first from the Bucs and run. I don't think Revis has a big trade market and I don't think we have any leverage. I definitely don't see us getting a package of picks that equal Revis' value. If not take the 2014 first, I think the Jets should take him off the market and rebuild the relationship with Revis so the possibility of him returning at least exists, to the point that some leverage returns.
I just wish all of this drama would end so I could stop checking in every 15 minutes just to see that some anonymous source claims the Jets are screwing this up. I'm wearing out my phone.

We're doing exactly what we should be doing at this point. We wait to see who flinches first and offers us a Carson Palmer type of trade, if not we hold out in hopes that he's healthy and work him out and watch teams that weren't interested before join the bidding.

Youre right. Hes wrong. Aso and Al fucked up the pay scale. We cant fix that and if Rvis doesnt get it, eff him. The simple fact is, hes a corner, and NO he doesnt shut down half the field. He takes away a guy that is the end part of a 60 pct play. And in BIG spots, like 1st and goal, he has a bad habit off dropping off into the end zone, and allowing the quick inside slant..... Hes a great CB. But a CB all the same. Hes only worth $$$$ if youre that one player away.

I honestly don't think we are trying to trade him at all. I think this organization is sitting back and laughing at all the reporters acting like they know what's going on. Idzik is trying to find a way to sign him to a long term deal. People are offering trades and just like any team, we are listening to them. The media has a hard on for the idea of trading him but I don't think we have any intention of it yet. Entertain the offers and watch the media go crazy
If they sign Grimes were done! We extend revis or let him play out his contract and walk or trade him mid season!

If it takes until August to trade Revis it takes until August. Nobody is going to stampede the Jets into a bad trade at this point. Revis and his agents would like a trade under any circumstances at this point because they want the big deal before training camp opens and they've figured out that Woody and the Jets aren't going to give it to them. That's where most of the noise on the trade situation is coming from. Then you have the professional mischief-makers who just want to see the Jets twist in the wind.

The owners killed the players with the rookie salary cap. High draft picks are much more valuable and high priced vets are less valuable. Revis like all veterans are simply worth less in trade and money then the were before the rookie cap. Salaries are likely to fall at the high end across the board as owner recognize the risk of signing a bust at the top of the draft doesn't exist any longer.
I disagree on salaries falling at the top end. I think where salaries will really fall is in the bottom 80% or so. There's no reason to keep a 27 year old player up for their second contract at this point unless they are a star. The days of Calvin Pace hitting the free agent market at 27 with 14 career sacks and finding a windfall are over. I do think that older players in the last few years of their career are screwed also but this has mostly been the case anyway. Cliff Avril, BTW, is a *much* better player than Pace was in 2008. He signed a 2 year deal for $13-15M.
This is a fair point. Draft pick value is at an all time high. Seems like teams cutting older pricey vets more than ever as well. I think top end salaries for vets does take a hit, but middle road and lower priced vets get the minimum increase. Overall i like it. unproven rookies shouldn't command crazy dollars before playing a snap. Would be nice if they could work in a clause in future making it more affordable to keep long time players. Kind of like a veteran franchise rule. Example, both the Ravens and the Raven fans would love for Ed Reed to retire there, but the Balt FO knows it is not in the organizations best interests unless he takes a very low salary on his last contract. Exact rules of when and how a clause like this could be used would have to be carefully thought out, but it would be a plus for the fans.
