Woodson's age will certainly play a factor in their negotiations with the Packers. I don't see the outcome having much impact on Revis' negotiations because of where Revis is at in his career....Woodson is pretty close to retirement.
I can guarantee you there's no pot o' gold for Revis or his agent this upcoming season. The Jets have 3 other guys that are deserving of big $$$ and Revis's take no prisoners approach won't work with Tanny. Look for Revis's contract or lack of one being an issue for the upcoming season.
His shit bag agent would be smart to budge at some point. Once Aso's deal is done the highest contract for corner is like 10 or 11 million a season. they could probably get 12 or 13 million a year out of the jets right now. That will be made much more difficult to do when they don't have the extreme of Aso's contract to hang their hat on.
it is but you cant deny that this is the negative part that comes with that. and like i said i think he deserves the money, but it is definitely going to fuck the jets in the long run bc at least one of those 4 is going to have to walk
100% right, dont try to blame rex for this...everyone always has someone to point the finger at...Revis deserves to be paid as the best corner in the league!
It shouldn't matter. Regardless if he wants to lose his 20 million acting like a fool as he is now, then honestly it's whatever. At This point Tanny needs to get Mangold and Harris done and forget about Revis for the moment
He's not gonna walk. If he holds out he stops getting paid and with a work stoppage being a very real possibility in the near future, it'd be financial suicide. Additionally, This would not look good for his public image. He's on the cusp of being a top 3 superstar in this league,w/ alot of years of football ahead of him. A holdout would hurt his reputation on and off the field. There's no way he wants to leave the Jets either. He's on a team that has arguably the best defensive mind/scheme in the league;one that fits Revis' game very well. He's in a city that will put him on the highest pedestal, providing him all the potential endorsements he could ever dream of and he's part of a franchise on the verge of a major upswing that could be perennial playoff contenders for the next several years.Look what this city/team has brought him after just one elite year of play! You think he wants to give all of that up? Certainly both sides have alot to lose in this scenario..but no way should the Tanny just bend over backwards to make Darrelle happy. Brick,Mangold,Harris and others are just as much apart of the core as Revis is.
listen no offense to those "core 4" as everyone one puts it but this guy is THE BEST at what he does you cant let him walk even if it costs us one of 4...
CB is not a $16 million a year position. That's an artifact of the senility in Oakland. If I'm the Jets I relax at this point and let things play themselves out. They're not short of likely quality corners and Revis has nowhere else to go at the moment. I have a much younger sister than me because my father remarried after my mother passed and he had a child at 62. I'll never forget the best lesson on parenting I ever got from him when my sister was 6. She was really pissed about something and stomping around and huffing it up and finally she stormed out into the front hall and loudly announced that she was leaving. We hear the front door creak open and then slam shut. I look at my dad after a minute, sitting there completely calm and relaxed, and I say "aren't you going to go after her?" He looks back at me and says "where's she gonna go?" About 5 minutes later, out of curiosity more than anything else I go out to the front hall and open the door. There's my sister, sitting on the ground looking up at me, because of course a 6 year old has nowhere to go. Neither does a player entering the 4th year of a 6 year deal. The Jets need to just back off and relax. Revis has nowhere to go, and unlike my little sister they could get a boatload in trade for him if it came down to that.
The thing about Rex hyping Revis every time he's near a microphone is that it doesn't stop with Revis. How many other "the best in the leagues" is that kinda talk gonna price us out of? Is Mangold "the best center?" Harris? Brick? Sanchez one day? We're not the Yankees. We don't have an unlimited checkbook. And I don't think this is about Revis being a dick either, this is about his scumbag agents. When you give an agent THAT much ammo to bring to the table, they're going to strongarm every time. It's kind of all they know how to do.
Just front-load the shit out of his contract in guaranteed money(bonuses, and whatever). I know it's risky with alot of players, but it seems right with this guy.
you can't with the rules put in place on contracts. That's why this situation is so fucked. And the uncertainty of the CBA, etc.
I know about the 30% thing, but I heard you can include signing bonuses in the contract that gets around the 30% cap.
Comparing the parenting of a 6 year old and how the Jets should handle Revis in this situation like apples and oranges seems crazy to me. In fact that would be the best way to lose him most likely. He definitely would have options out there.
If they know he wants 16+ million a year in a long term deal who's gonna give up multiple first round picks and/or quality players?!
