Revis can laugh all he wants, but if I was him, I would not get on Rex's bad side this early in your career, strong willed CB versus REALLY strong willed Head Coach, who wins
The 30 percent rule was made so that you can't pay a player 20 mill this year and then 1 mill for the next three... When they made this CBA they assumed there would be a cap in the next CBA as well and this rule limits teams from essentially avoiding the cap. The only way someone can get big money this year is through signing bonuses... but signing bonuses (in relation to the cap) are divided in all the years of the contract... this way you can't escape the cap.
The loop hole is to give a player 2 signing bonuses... one now and one say in 2013... this way, by carefully working the base salary numbers, you can have more flexibility with the contract and not give out all the money in one year.
Ha! And people thought I was crazy when I said Revis is gonna look to get paid no less than 13-14M+ per year.
Of course it's like the Kendall situation. Revis and Kendall have the same agent. The guy only knows how to use the 'disgruntled player' tactic through the press. Same with Baker.
This isn't about Rex, this is about Tanny. If Rex had his way he'd pay him 30 mil a year. He's the key to making the whole damn scheme work. And as I've written before, this is exactly why Revis has all the leverage. I love the fact that Rex talks up his players to a larger-than-life status, but this is a perfect example of how that can come back and bite you in the ass.
You can't compare what happened to Baker, Kendall & Coles to the Revis situation. Those players were not young (Baker was) and the best player at their position in the NFL. Tanny will get this done. As far as the comparison to the Leon situation, did we ever find out what the Jets offered him? I know the 5 mil a year deal was the supposed contract but didn't Keels (don't trust that scumbag) say that it wasn't even close to that number? Either way Tanny will not let Revis walk away. I expect that something will be done before the season starts.
before the season starts!? it needs to be ASAP we need this guy in camp not for just his own good but for the good of the team...if he misses camp its the organizations fault period!
Very true, I don't even think Rex would pay him that much if he had to think about other players who also deserve that a long-term contract, we can't afford to pay that dude 15-18 million dollars, if we got other players to pay i'm not spending all my money on 1 player not to bring up the Patriots but they lived and died by replacing players that wanted tooooo much money, I have to take a look at the cap situation for our team but this isn't looking very good right now, granted TC is a while off, but I would think he would have more respect for this organization who gave him a chance to showcase what he really can do in on the field then act like a diva in a time like this, Rex I guarantee it will be angrier then an army of bulls if Revis pulls this shit. He will give Revis a good talking to
Revis can hang out at the pool with Mangold who they aren't even talking to. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...gold-considering-skipping-work-too/?related=1
I negotiate contracts for a living and I can tell you that Tanny's position is likely something along the following - (a) under your current contract, you get (i) $1 million for 2010, (ii) $5 million for 2011 and (iii) $15 million for 2012. (b) we think the $1 million is too and we'd like to pay you more for 2010, but you have to give us 2013, 2014, and 2015 for something like $15 million/year. Now when you break down that deal, it's a 6 year deal paying $21+$45 or $66 million. Now the new deal might pay $8-10 million for 2010, with the rest of the money being something like a gradual progression going forward to get to the $66 million. At the end of the day, Revis can't go anywhere else and it doesn't make sense to say that Tanny should give him whatever he wants. Tanny has a lot of other people lined up for a big pay day and there just isn't enough money to pay them all, unless you get them to take less. This is exactly what Tanny should be doing. He is doing his job. I don't know how the 30% rule would play into this.
This will play out thru training camp but W1 Revis will be playing. Tanny knows he holds the aces to a certain extent , they can buy back his contract and if needed franchise him for the 2 years after that. revis is in cloud cuckoo land if he is expecting 16 million.
I agree... people need to understand that spending 17 instead of 14 mill on a CB means we have to cut expenses on another part of the team... and atm I can't see where. I think no CB should earm more than 13-15 mill (which is still a lot of money in the NFL) because however talented they are they have limited impact. In my estimate I included the fact that in the scheme the Jets play CBs are extremely important. Still who cares... he's either going to be here the next 2-3 years at a reasonable price or we'll get a king's ransom if we trade him.
It's comparable because of the tactics that Neil Schwartz uses with pretty much every player he represents. Revis will end up getting paid, and handsomely, but his agent is going to make sure it gets ugly before that happens.
This is getting crazy and far too familiar. Come on, this is our year boys. Let's get this shit figured out.
"The man" deserves his 21 million dollar contract for the next 3 years. Deal with it bro, you're locked in.
