Not saying Douglas gets a full pass, but this roster is 95% on Idzik and Mac. Douglas has had only one draft so far, and one free agency period. The bozos in charge let Mac have that last draft and free agency before firing him. what was Idzik’s big draft...2014? We had like 14 picks in a year where there were great WRs in Evans, OBJ, Cooks, etc. and that was a position of need. We got zip. How many of those players Idzik drafted are even still in the NFL today, let alone on our team. That draft and the few after it should have been the core of our team today. We have zero to show from that draft or the few after it. instead, we draft Calvin Pryor, a fucking box safety instead, who sucked. And then we follow up two years of wasted Idzik drafts with Mac, who consistently ignored OL, WR, pass rusher...all critical positions that we did not draft. But his WORST mistake was to pass on both Watson and Mahomes to take a fucking safety. We made the same mistake AGAIN. The only difference is that at least Adams was a great player whereas Pryor sucked balls. Still, even if Adams were Troy Polamalu or Ed Reed, they would STILL be the wrong choice over a franchise QB. Why? Because Mac drafted Hackenberg and wouldn’t or couldn’t admit a mistake. Get the fuck outta here. And then we can look at Mac’s brutal choices in free agency. They were just as bad. so yeah, this roster DOES fall almost entirely on Idzik and Mac. how is this not obvious to anyone paying attention? so yeah, Douglas has had one draft and one free agency to start to fix this mess. He hasn’t been perfect by a long shot. Should have kept Robby instead of Perriman. Maybe could have signed some better OL. Draft is a mix to me...Becton has looked legit at a premium position which was also a huge need for us. A+. Mims has looked ok so far in only two games. We’ll see, but looks promising. I am not sold at all on either Davis or Perine so far, so those are still a question mark to me. We’ll see about the rest. but I get his plan...which was also Idziks plan...to tear down, accumulate picks and cap space, and fix it going forward, knowing this year was a write off. Difference is that Douglas so far seems to have a better eye for talent than Idzik, and has certainly showed that he is WAY better at maneuvering in the draft than either Idzik or Mac, and his philosophy on team building is way ahead of Mac, who didn’t have a coherent vision of how to build a team, because sure as shit you don’t build a team by drafting two safeties back to back, or a high pick DT when you already have a high pick DT that you yourself drafted a couple years ago, or by ignoring OL, or weapons for a young QB you just drafted. It’s asinine...literally NO PLAN. so the hope is that Douglas can execute on the plan by drafting great players at important positions....we’ll see, but so far, he’s been miles ahead of both Idzik and Mac, and they left a HUGE hole to fill with this shit roster.
Oh, brother. I am curious which rookies on the jets you think have learned so much from Gore about running into a pile and gaining two yards. I am also curious how Gore supposedly knowing the offense has generated any points for the jets this season. Look at Jacksonville undrafted RB free agent Robinson. He is having a great year albeit for a piss poor team. I got to believe the jets could have found a better, younger retread RB than Gore, or with an undrafted free agent or a September cut. Gore has no speed or moves. If he is so great, are you arguing we sign him to an extension (because he is the consummate professional that rookies are learning SO much from)????? Your defense of Douglas on this signing "is really getting ridiculous." As to if I was the head coach, I would deactivate Gore every week and give all the carries to Perine and Johnson. What the hell do the jets have to lose, they lose every game now by 20 points?????? . I didn't know that it was the job of the jets to let Gore retire with dignity by getting most of the carries (and getting stuffed). If I were the coach, as you posit, younger backs would get the ball, and I would not be afraid or even worried about what Frank Gore thought about that.
Sorry, my mistake. I thought you knew that young players learn from veterans how to practice, how to stay in shape, how to watch film, how to carry themselves, how to be professionals. Your cynicism and negativity are what is ridiculous. Douglas may have been able to have found a better younger RB than Gore, but if that RB didn't know the offense and couldn't play for a week or two, it wouldn't have helped during that time. If Gase wouldn't have used that RB, it wouldn't have helped, either. It would just be wasting a roster spot and cap space. The GM can't make a HC use players he adds to the team unless the HC reports to the GM. We all know that isn't the case. In this stupid org chart that the Johnsons have, Douglas is forced to work with Gase, and to try to get him the players he (Gase) thinks he wants and needs. That's the way the NFL works. The GM has to work with and support the HC. What would have been really stupid would have been for Douglas to sign some other young RB and then Gase refused to use him or use him in the way that he could be most effective. Douglas already had the example of Gase not using Bell the way he should have been used. What freaking good would it have been to bring in a RB that Gase wouldn't use or use correctly????
You are so right--The younger players have learned so much from Gore this year--that is why the jets are the laughing stock of the NFL at 0-8, with other teams laughing because we are playing a 37 year old retread when we should be developing these younger players (who have learned so much from Frank Gore). Frank truly is Douglas' prize free agent of 2020. Let's resign him to an extension, so next year's crop of rookies can learn equally as much, while they watch Gore get stuffed. I really had no idea of Frank's significant contribution to the worst team in the league and one of the worst of all time. What was I thinking?.
Gore is an absolute waste and needs to become retired and nowhere near an NFL playing field anymore and even a rookie Perrine has more TDs a better yards per carry average and more pass receptions than Hire despite about 75% fewer snaps it's absolutely disgusting to see Gore getting reps over our kid Florida Gator only 22 years of age!
Yeah...I gotta say I don’t see the need to play Gore. The only argument I could reasonably make is if he can pass protect and the other backs are so bad at it that they’d get Sam killed. But he’s kinda running for his life anyway at this point, we can lose by 20 with or without Gore. running back is the easiest position to transition into the NFL, so While I get the veteran argument for a few games, at this point, I’d sooner go with Perine and Jackson and see which one of them, if any, shows enough to be a big part of the offense next year. So far, Perine has looked very average to me. I don’t see a huge burst or breakaway speed, or wiggle, etc. So from what I’ve seen so far,mi would say we still need help at RB next year, but I sure would be giving him the starts and the carries and see if he shows enough to say he can be our starter next year...I haven’t seen that yet but I’d sure give him the chance.
Anybody who has any physical issues at all should be sitting against the Pats. This includes Sam Darnold for sure and probably Mekhi Becton as well.
He does have burst, however Gase isn't allowing to start and play a full game in order to show his natural ability throughout the course of a full game. As an FSU fan I absolutely loved his style of play as a Gator within the SEC and was celebrating on draft day when we selected him. And this one TD, below? More TDs than Gore has... All year.
Thanks for proving my point. Douglas has had a year and a half to make the Jets better - he made them worse. None of that was on MacCagnan or Idzick. You don't really think that talking about 2014 helps your argument, do you? That's ancient history. Why not complain about Dick Steinberg taking Blair Thomas when Emmitt Smith was on the board?
Of course talking about 2014 and the years after it helps my argument Players drafted in the last 5 years should be the bulk of our core today...coming into second contracts. We didn’t have any good players deserving of second contracts. Instead, we have a shit roster. what part are you not understanding? yes Douglas has been on the job a year and a half. he’s had one draft and one free agency period. Not two. I fully agree he has not been perfect, or even great. He could have kept Adams and Robby...those would have been two good moves. He could have found better OL (Conklin?...though he’s hurt now). He could have signed Clowney for some pass rush. Or better still....he could’ve traded for Hopkins like Arizona did. Had he made just those moves, we are a much better team. no argument from me. However, had we done those things, we would have significantly less draft capital and cap space. So he instead chose to tear it down right to the ground to build it from scratch with draft picks. So now we have to wait and see how his drafts turn out. He’s had one...so far Becton looks to be the best of the top 4 OTs taken. Mims has been hurt so not much to go on but he’s looked good so far. That’s about it to me on this first draft. I’m not sold at all yet on Perine and Davis, and I don’t know that any other picks have played much. So we’ll see. we will have to wait and see how his drafts go, and what he does with all that cap space next year. but to say he doesn’t know what he’s doing, or that this shit show is all on him, is not accurate to me...he comes very highly regarded, for whatever that’s worth. He is just executing a different approach than maybe what us fans, who have suffered long and hard with this piece of shit franchise, might have done, but only time will tell if it’s the right or wrong approach. I think he knew full well what he’s doing in tearing it down and making it worse...I think he is eyeing that top overall pick with a generational QB prospect there, and I don’t think for one minute he passes on Lawrence if we have the first pick. He is setting this up to get that pick and have a ton of draft picks and cap space to build around TL. I think Darnold is his backup plan if we can’t get Lawrence. The plan doesn’t change....it is still to build an OL and a team around preferably Lawrence, but Darnold if need be. just my opinion But to discount the impact that years of literally horrendous drafting by Idzik and Mac have on THIS roster is nonsense OF COURSE they created this mess how you can’t see that is beyond me
he doesn’t seem to be the sharpest tool in the shed. Completely agree didn’t even think you would have to explain it out fully I thought people had common sense but I guess not. There’s is no way to say his one draft and one free agency made the Jets worse when majority of the team is made of of past GM players period.
I'm understanding all of it - it's water under the bridge, it's not coming back, there's nothing you can do to make it go away. How can you focus on the road ahead when you're staring in the rear view mirror? Shoulda, coulda, woulda is not a formula for success. I do know for sure though that the team today is worse than it was November 5, 2019 - you can't blame that on ghosts from the past. If someone said Douglas doesn't know what he's doing or this shit show is all on him, why not take it up with them and leave me out of it? If you want to create strawman arguments find somebody else to play your silly little game. I don't give the tiniest crap about some anonymous claim that Douglas comes highly regarded - it wasn't that long ago we heard the same about Adam Gase. Meet one "genius," you've met them all.
Douglas appears to have made an improvement at one spot in the offensive line, and possibly, by accident, at kicker. Every other position is equal or worse than a year ago. Sorry if I can't find the praise that you guys can for the GM of an 0 - 8 team. No, I'm not sorry at all.
My 1st question is why or anybody else even waste there time posting IMHO U are totally deluded yourself concerning that any of our rookies have any talent whatsoever
