He was punched in the jaw last August by a teammate. Clearly no leadership at that point. Came in the Raiders game and looked lost and his usual self. So if he shows up this week with great leadership, it would definitely feel over night to me.

Ugh...I'm sure it wasn't the first time a QB acted big time in the locker room to one of his dumb friends/teammates. They were buddies and both young.

That's on IK way more than Geno. He's the moron that's on the roster bubble and barely hanging on in the NFL that decided to punch a teammate and get himself cut. If not for Rex the Troll he would have punched his way out of the league. Yeah Geno should have taken care of it, but my point is these kind of arguments probably happen all the time, you just never hear of them because most players aren't completely crazy like IK is apparently.

As for the Raider game...he looked good most of the time and had a few dumb plays...Decent enough for a backup who didn't expect to play. I would say it was neither great nor terrible for him

Bottom line is its up to Geno right now to get it done no excuses

This Mehta's article is exhibit 1 why he should be ignored at all times.
Title, "Jets have given Ryan Fitzpatrick multiple contract offers to choose from" is not repeated, confirmed or even alluded to anywhere else in the text. He tells what FO should do, but the title itself is a lie.

I you gotta love the subtle insults of 'Jets actions are baffling, and their explanations are red herring'. No comment on Fitz's other numerous options.

God, I really hate this little brown pimpled excuse for a beat writer.

I wouldn't say that he came in the Raider game and looked lost. He was one of the few Jets who played well in that game. I think one should also take into account that he had little or no training camp, no preseason, and probably had taken very few snaps once the season began.

How many young QBs in that situation (in a new offense with little or no snaps in TC, preseason or the season, and thus having no time to develop timing and chemistry with his receivers), is able to come in and play any better than Geno?

As for it "feeling" overnight. I understand that. That's how it seems when someone changes and/or grows, but that's not how learning works.

I don't think Petty is gonna make the team.

    Geno, vet backup, Hack.

If its clear Petty isn't going to make the team we should try and trade him for a late round pick a team that liked him might bite.

    I'm not so sure.
Petty might have value for the team. Fast-forward a couple of years and you might have something like Hack -#1, Geno and Petty are #s 2 and 3.
The problem, of course, is this year: Hack and Petty are too raw to be relied upon, and we spoke for 5 months about Geno and Fitz. Ideally, you'd carry 4 QBs, but this would make for a very interesting TC cut time.

More revisionist delusional bullshit. The punch was 100% Geno Smith's fault. You don't promise your teammate that you'll appear at his charity event, have him buy you a plane ticket, then flake on the event and not AT LEAST pay the guy back. Geno Smith has no idea what it is to be a man, let alone a quarterback, let alone an NFL Quarterback. Smith has shit for brains and is incapable to making important decisions or properly take responsibility for anything.

He is not and will never be a leader of men

    LOL you're so wrong

A fringe NFL player should not be punching anyone over $600, period.

    Much less a teammate

Geno acted like a douche but to punch someone over that and not blame IK is laughable

The Super Bowl Champion Broncos have a QB picked in the 7th round of the same draft as Petty is in competition for the no1 spot with Mark Sanchez. Credible analysts think he will win the starting job. Petty may not be the guy, but it seems that Elway has no problem bringing forward a late round QB prospect.

Elway can do whatever Elway does. I'm not sure what your praise of Elway has to do with Jets.
First time in a long time I have higher than zero confidence that our FO won't screw up a QB. If Jets' brain trust thinks Petty is worth keeping, they'll find a way.

Ugh...Jets have now offered him multiple contracts to pick from to end impasse. Lets see just how screwed we get with this. At least that is what Mehta just tweeted. Then again after reading the accompanying article it sounds like old news.

Yeah so he's either taking 12 million in the 1st year of a multi-year contract or wants a 1 year deal, but for a lot more money. I need to go back to reference the article because at the very least I know the Jets offered him $12 mil for one year and didn't take it.

If we won a Super Bowl, the Jets could start Kellen Clemens or Tim Tebow at QB the year after for all I'd care.

I guarantee if Elway didn't have the currency of being the reigning Super Bowl Champions they wouldn't be starting any seventh round draft pick. And fwiw it's a little different being a rookie QB in Denver as opposed to New York.

How about this novel concept? They're BOTH at fault for said incident. A starting QB in the NFL should not be welching anyone out over $600 and IK shouldn't have handled it selfishly in a manner that could have damaged the team. Of course the Jets are probably the only team that would have benefitted from its starting QB being punched out and the job being given to the backup last year but be that as it may it's still a selfish act that could have hurt the team.

to my knowledge, Fitz is fine with a 1yr contract worth 12M, but the Jets wouldn't do that deal.

    Relax, it's just Mehta BS.
He wrote article with the same title and there is no mention is any additional contracts anywhere in the article, just the title.

Ordinarily IK would have been out of the league for that incident. Fortunately he had Rex to pick him up and make him a team captain against us. How about that sign of maturity from Rex to take the opportunity to give his former team the middle finger? That was Geno's head coach his first 2 years in the NFL so it shouldn't be surprising to anyone that he didn't mature. Hopefully the past year under Bowles and alongside Fitz has helped him get on the right track.
