we did not do a good job of controlling the ball on offense ... we had the fourth worst three-and-out percentage in the league which consistently left the defense on short fields

    I like this article:

    http://www.wsj.com/articles/geno-smith-might-be-primed-to-have-a-fitzpatrick-type-year-1469401389

"The biggest factor is Gailey, a proven quarterback guru. Fitzpatrick might be the best evidence: His career passer rating with Gailey (2,077 attempts) is 5.6 points better than without him (1,396 passes). Coincidentally, Fitzpatrick’s non-Gailey passer rating of 77.5 is exactly what Smith registered in 2014. A “Gailey bump” for Smith should be expected considering that Gailey has had a similar effect on three other quarterbacks (Kordell Stewart, Jay Fielder and Tyler Thigpen)."

the common "Geno is terrible" person is now the common "Geno might actually have a chance to be good" person.

Do you guys think this deal might get done before training camp? I mean, do you think it's going to be done in the next couple of days?

They should wait until after the first preseason game. It appears Fitz ain't budging, but the Jets could be backing themselves into a corner if Geno doesn't perform well, that could increase Fitz's value to the Jets.

Good...I think no matter who you support in this debate, a good middle ground would be to see how Geno looks in training camp and the first few preseason games

If he's just not getting it then Jets should do what they can to get Fitz or another vet here

If he looks good and improved then goodbye Fitz and sign a cheap backup depending on Petty's progress

    Seems pretty smart and fair

Checking Geno out in the preseason sounds like a good idea, but I don't think Fitzpatrick is good enough to come off the streets with 3 weeks and 2 preseason games to prepare for the season.

Well what other option do we have if Geno looked like shit or got hurt? Would have to sign Fitz or trade for a Foles

I dont really want to rely on a couple preseason games to give Geno a look. Good or bad, preseason games arent the best indication of how a player will perform in the regular season.

At the same time, I wanted Fitz here by the start of training camp, and if not, I wanted the offer pulled.

Basically, I am just going with the Coaching Staff here. If they are comfortable with Geno, so am I. If they are still trying to sign Fitz after training camp starts, I will take that as an indictment on Geno.

Ideally I'd want whatever vet we bring in to be here by the first preseason game. Whether that's Fitz, Foles, McCown; I don't care. But 3 weeks and 2 games isn't enough for anyone to prepare for an NFL season, let alone a bunch of journeymen.

    +1000

As I have posted before the QB dispute with Fitz is mismanaged...this will boil down to giving Fitz an extra 4 million which could have been done months ago

Money gets freed up for Mo Wilk but not for your QB ? SMH

Who on this Board will bet your Mortgage GeNo will perform well?? Lets survey that today

Pay Fitz 12 mill fully guaranteed for one year...that's 4 mill over the 8 offered. I bet he takes it It costs Woody $20 dollars more in Billionnaire terms

This is just dumb..pay the man already

With ever Geno pick and errant throw in preseason, Fitz gets more guaranteed money.

What would be the point in bringing in a vet if its not Fitzpatrick? Carrying 4 QBs is a pain in the ass and should only be done in an extraordinary situation. Fitz signing back would fit the bill but signing McClown so he can rot on the bench and take reps away from the young QBs is not

I'll say I believe its all going to be a moot point because I believe Fitzpatrick will sign but signing a guy like McClown would be a head scratcher
