What I'm talking about is guys like you who want Fitzpatrick gone when all the other choices are worse. Much worse. You're throwing chips on the table betting that someone will drop down out of a cloud who can get the job done when there is absolutely no reason to believe that is even a remote possibility.

Signing Fitzpatrick "Just because he's the likely best case scenario" is exactly why it is the best move.

I'm still trying to grasp this. The jets seemed to offer him at least a fair deal, I can only imagine that he doesn't want to be a starter anymore because it takes a toll on his body (even though he was well protected last year). I'm guessing that he told his family "I'll only take the starting job if I get payed handsomely." But it's conceivable he could end up playing almost a full season anyway even if he is a backup, and not recieve the pay he is looking for, so I don't buy into the "he wants to be a backup" option. The Jets are clearly his best bet and he seems to want nothing to do with it.

Mature? Look at your previous post then get back to me on being mature. Already admitted I was incorrect, but you continue to talk about it, but go ahead and thrive on your moment here. Appears you are still vulnerable from before, come back to reality now buddy it's OK.

Fitz is likely the best case option on the field.....but this option is not good enough if you want to win big and costs us salary cap space.

It's possible Geno is a better option if he's improved a decent amount.....You can act like it's some huge long shot but it's really not. We're talking about Fitz as like the 27th ranked QB and Geno right now at like 29th. Geno can be better, while Fitz can not by much, if at all

I don't know how else to say it....I just don't believe Fitz is good enough, period. I do not want to watch him play for us even if he's "probably" going to do the best. It's not going to get it done

Nope. I don't care about winning big. If every game is won by a single point, I'm good with that. I've decided to leave the finances up to the professionals and trust that the guys making the big bucks understand how to manipulate the cap better than I can do from my limited viewpoint and exposure to limited information.

We'll have to agree to disagree on exactly how possible it is for Smith to improve to starting NFL caliber. And hope he's not put to the test. But fill us in on how you arrived at "Geno can be better, while Fitz can not by much, if at all."

No I meant winning big as in making it far....Fitz has NEVER led his team to the playoffs. He's tried on plenty of different teams with all different coaches and players and he never was able to get it done....He's either extremely unlucky or just not very good

If Fitz joins the team that is less money for us to spend somewhere else next season or in the future no way around it

Geno can be better because that is normal for young QBs starting right of the gate to improve in their 3rd year starting....it doesn't mean he definitely will but it's pretty standard. He also has a much better team and coaching around him and hopefully a much better mental outlook and approach on things now

Fitz can not improve because what QB at 33 years old in the NFL becomes a better player? Again pretty standard

I'm arguing for what I believe but if Fitz is signed and ends up starting every game I will root like hell for him and the team. I still think we can be good with him just not much more than that.

    And he can be worse.

    Of course he can.

Even when you get to decide what is "pretty standard" all you have going for you is one man's opinion. That's why we'll be at 5000 posts here real soon.

No I have the history of the modern NFL on my side.....It's almost guaranteed that a 33 year old QB doesn't improve much and it's very normal for a young QB in Geno's exact situation improves from what we last saw of him. If either of these situations don't come true it would be the exception not the norm

Since you seem to love Vegas I'll give it to you like this:

Geno improves is a decent favorite

Fitz improves anything worthwhile is a massive underdog

You tell me what QBs you can remember that have suddenly turned into better/different players at 33 years old after being career journeymen and I'll give you a ton of QBs that struggled in their first 2 seasons right out of the gate but then went on to become better players....Deal?

You don't "have the history of the modern NFL on (your) side," you have your vision of the modern NFL. But since you have all the answers you need to get on a plane to the sportsbook. Tell us what kind of odds you get on that decent favorite and massive underdog so we can track your sure things this season.

Or just admit you simply have an opinion no better than that of anyone else.

It's not really an opinion that a young QB going into his 3rd season has a much better chance of improving as does a 33 year old veteran in the NFL. Go through every single QB in the "modern NFL" and check for yourself or ask anyone who has a clue

Are you that clueless or that stubborn?

It doesn't mean that every single time that will happen, it just means the odds are on that side of things.....do you agree or disagree?

My how our memories of ineptitude at the QB spot have faded. Sanchez and Smith were our starting QB's.

    Wake the fuck up!!!!!!!!!

We need Fityz just as much as he needs us.

Clueless or stubborn? Check the mirror, pal, you'll see the guy who wrote "Fitz is likely the best case option on the field....." just over four hours ago - which is it?

A guy who did virtually nothing last year and the year before, and the year before has a minimal chance of having a decent year. A guy with a decade of experience, even if mediocre, coming off a good year has a decent chance of having a decent year, especially when only one of them has been an on-field leader who plays with confidence and poise and inspires the same in others around him. That is my opinion. It doesn't matter if you agree or not.

For the record: I do not agree with your opinion of the situation.

The Jets have a better chance of winning the most games with Fitzpatrick as quarterback than with Smith, Petty or Hackenberg - also my opinion (and apparently yours, above.)

So you're just not going to answer and change the subject about QBs improving...

No I think starting Geno gives us POSSIBLY a better chance at doing something big now and in the future....with a chance to be worse obviously

Fitz is the safe choice for being decent and we definitely won't be really bad with him. And yes I said odds are he is probably the best case option, but I already said that it's not good enough as evidenced by his whole damn career....so we gotta gamble even if it means a bigger downside. Just my opinion there and apparently many other Jet fans feel a similar way.

Most likely scenario is Jets are a similar team either way and this is all moot as we flounder to a 9-7 year LOL

As things stand now I am very disappointed with the FO and with Fitzs Agent to be fair

If TGG is so divided over the QB question can you imagine how the locker room feels????

I bet if players could really speak up 90% can't stand Smith and really like RF as the team Leader

For all his brilliance Mac has made 3 costly errors

1 The Fitz negotiations are a mess. The guy has no leverage I get it but the other 2 mistakes put you in a $ hole so you are limited in money to negotiate or even pay Fitz a little more his second /third year of contract

2 Paying Mevi$ 39 million fully guaranteed (the highest paid player) was major overpayment imo and used up tons of cap space for his salary

3Waiting too long to sign Mo Wilk when it would have been a lot cheaper a year before

Mac wants to continue his honeymoon with Todd Bowles that began when Bowles insisted on developing his over the top defense including 2 "shut down corners" Cro and DR (who you paid an exorbitant amount) Next year it will be $heldon Richardson

Continue to neglect your Offense and see where this gets ya

It’s just such an interesting stalemate. I’ve never seen a QB of Fitz’s caliber holdout like this. I have to side with the Jets on this. 3 years for $24 million with $15 million guaranteed is a good and fair offer for Fitz’s services.

This is a guy who played for what last year? $3-$4 million? $12 million in year 1 is a huge pay bump for him. I know he doesn’t want to lock into those back two years but if he performs the same again he can holdout next season and the Jets would probably have to rework the deal. Whose giving him $12 million to play QB for them in 2016?

Fitzpatrick is a quality journeyman QB whose had a couple of above average seasons in his career. He’s a capable QB. He isn’t Tom Brady, he’s not a young QB with a world of potential who a team might decide to give a massive contract to expecting him to grow and get better. His days are numbered and at his age his decline is coming sooner than later. The only thing the Jets should do to settle is shorten the contract and give him maybe a little more money in year 1. Maybe even a 1 year $15 million contract. But who knows if he’d except that.

The problem for the Jets is that if they want to compete they really need Fitz under center. If Fitz walks then the Jets would have to throw their chips in with Geno and hope he makes a huge leap from the last time we saw him as the every week starter.

I think if Fitz was serious about playing this season he'd be signed by now. Maybe Fitz knows he played waaayy over his head last season and he's likely to revert to the mean this season. He's already made enough dough throughout his career to live comfortably. If he retires, for him its like going out on top. So he's not going to play unless they make him an offer he can't refuse. Which they won't and they shouldn't. Hope I'm wrong, but it explains the hard line he's taking.

He has no leverage at all whatsoever unless another teams starting qb goes down with a season ending injury

He will sign the day before training camp
