An actual deadline that was reported by Ian Rapoport but not confirmed by either the team or Fitz. The wording also says it is just the 1st real deadline, there could be 5 other real deadlines. Sounds to me like a reporter made up a date based upon the OTAs figuring if the contract came in he can claim he had the scoop but if it goes a little longer he can claim he said the previous deadline was just the 1st.
Everybody stop jerking off, there's no deadline If you want a deadline circle week 3 when the Jets are 0-3 with Geno Smith and they get on the phone with Fitzpatrick's agent
They could try and stash Petty on the PS instead. If Geno starts the season 0-3 as a starter and he's not playing well, then they will make a switch. But my point was if the Jets are 0-3 and Fitz was never signed, they shouldn't even bother signing Fitz at that point.
Besides peace of mind , what is the benefit to "moving on" right now? Geno will have to prove a lot more than just looking alright in OTA's to make anyone in the front office think about moving on from Fitz. The deadline talk is nonsense. He could sign here the day before our first game and still be starting right out of the gate.
Its also a bit of an exaggeration on my part , but I really dont think Fitz needs much time in the offense (that he already knows) and with the players around him (that he already has a ton of chemistry with). Bottom line is any type of "deadline" talk that we hear between now and the middle of preseason is bogus.
If Geno not playing while I agree he should sit. What if Fitz signs and they start 0-3 and Fitz not doing good? What should they do?
Different personnel...different results. Mac & Bowles have already proven to be way more capable in running this team. If you can't see that...then there's nothing else to say. They're taking a hard stance...and I can't say I blame them for taking this approach. Fitz is good, not great. There's no reason to overpay. There's no money anyway.
