Oof. "The most glaring weakness in his Fitzpatrick game is his arm strength. He can’t push the ball more than 20 yards downfield without sacrificing accuracy. He only completed 20% of his passes on such attempts." (http://ftw.usatoday.com/2016/03/nfl-new-york-jets-free-agent-contract-geno-smith) This seems like an informative article btw. Haven't fully read it but skimmed it to get that stat.
They're saying that Fitz will regress to the mean because he doesn't throw a good deep ball and because of some things they don't like on the tape. Considering he's averaged 14 starts per season and a passer rating of 85 over the past 6 seasons, I wouldn't freak out too much about the mean.
They're probably not going to carry 4 qbs, but you can't throw Geno or Petty under the bus right now before Fitz is even signed. The Jets said exactly the right things when asked about this.
Unless Fitz is serious about not putting himself at risk and playing anymore if it's financially not worth it, and he plays all out so injury is always a risk for him. He needs the Jets and they need him. I'd guess they'll work something out. I just don't see a playoff contender with what they have in house at QB.
Nope. I didn't see one last year either, and we had probably the weakest strength of schedule we've ever had.
I honestly think he retires. It's been clear for weeks or months now that the Jets aren't upping their offer and that there are no other suitors for Fitz at the price he's demanding. One side will have to cave and I don't see it.
Im not sure he wants to retire, but all this talk about him like so much of our season hinges on him is a little absurd to me. I dont think he makes this team any better. Problem is theres no option that really does. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
I'll quote Mike Francesa, as I did earlier in this thread: "The Jets and Fitzpatrick are playing poker, and they've each got a pair of threes." Fitz knows the Jets QB options are terrible; the Jets know Fitz is 33 and has never made the playoffs even with an incredibly weak schedule. Who caves?
Pretty much this is why resigning him is rather pointless. He will struggle this season and everyone knows it. So its about money. Not just Fitzpatricks money, but players who need to be resigned and what not. Why waste it when you can shift it elsewhere and still end up with the same 8-8 record? If it werent speculation, hed be signed right now. So thanks, he struggled last season and dont give me that TD bullshit. He didnt break tackles and turn 5 yard passes into tds. Secondly, neither Geno nor Fitzpatrick will be on this team after this coming season so takr care of the othet talent around. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
