+1. . And I wouldn't be surprised if Cruz' stupid "ny values" comment didn't resonate a little "hymietown" anti-semitism with some out-of-state goobers. Trump hit it on the screws with his response.
Also the main guy bankrolling his campaign is from New York. A hedge fund manager no less. LOL! Christie may be the biggest asshole in this field. But Cruz is a close second, and he comes out on top in who is most full of shit. I noticed Rubio went after Cruz on his VAT tax proposal. Good for him. I am surprised Cruz does not take more flack for that. I thought most conservatives hate the VAT. It's a way for government to raise taxes in a hidden way. Plus anyone who has saved anything and got taxed on it will now get taxed when that money is spent? But yeah, that NYC remark was highly insulting and inappropriate. Trump is a narcissistic demagogue. But he turned that one back on Cruz quite effectively.
Yes, because the Republican Party has a huge history of anti-semitism. Which party considers Palestine the 51st state?
VAT is shorthand for tax everybody but the rich. The only people who will find a way around that kind of consumption tax are the people who really know how to create shelters to preserve their wealth. You can make diapers for your kids a business expense if you try hard enough.
Yes, that is basically the liberal objection to the VAT, and it may be that is why Cruz likes it. In general he takes positions on the economy that only the ignorant or the very rich can like. But we can't ignore that the right at least historically hates the VAT even more for the different reason I alluded to. It is a hidden tax that your average person (meaning voter) does not notice and therefore presumably will be less likely to object when it is raised. Raising VAT taxes is perceived merely as price increases. Which of course come from a variety of reasons, so it is hard to understand when the VAT tax is raised that that is the government at work and not some market factor. It is also a problem for the GOP despite the GOP liking regressive tax policies (again at least historically) because introducing it into an economy that did not have one before in effect penalizes the saving classes. And does not penalize the debtor classes. The GOP historically is supportive of the former, not the latter. But if you introduce the VAT into an economy such as ours that did have it before, then the people who saved money after taxes (in whatever form) and then want to spend that money after the VAT is adopted will be taxed on that money again. Yes that is already true to an extent since we have sales taxes. But to accomplish what Cruz is talking about, the VAT will have to be much bigger than current sales taxes. (Which presumably would not go away, so it would be on top of those.) Those who would be most affected would be retirees, and right behind them people who are about to retire. But it would really adversely affect everyone who is a net saver as of the time it is adopted.
He was right though, although it could have been worded better, still correct though. NY values are liberal values.
VAT's have been a useful tool in societies that do not have a yawning gulf between the elites and everybody else. They work in societies where everybody is middle-class and the society spends a lot to maintain that. A VAT would have worked in the US of the 1950's but it will not work in this era. Not enough workers are truly middle-class to make a VAT anything more than another heavy tax burden on society.
It is absurd to say that being from NY Trump must have liberal values. Trump is no liberal. It is an attempt to use a sort of guilt by association argument. It is also rank prejudice, and dismissive of the fact that not all people from this or that place think the same. Cruz's message is don't listen to Trump because he's from New York. Fuck Cruz. What a dick. You probably are not aware that Cruz's major backer is a New Yorker. His wife got a huge loan from Goldman Sachs, and he has come here many times holding his hand out for contributions. He is a rank hypocrite. ANd since when did being a super asshole become a virtue to GOP primary voters? Btw Obama was in Nebraska this week, appearing to cheering crowds. I suppose those people have the same values as you.
I wasn't going 'GOP' with it so much I was thinking more along regional lines. As for the 'Palestine = 51st state' comment, were you referring to the Israel-bashing political rhetoric found on many of the GOP-leaning college campuses that dominate the landscape? : ) Take it easy there corndog, I said some goobers not all of 'em.
Cruz is a dick. If he made me chose a Muslim hater like Trump over him, it shows how appalling he really is. I would like to pee in his mouth. Since when American presidents are elected among such clowns? Where did the great Republican presidents like Eisenhower, Roosevelt and Reagan go? What did America do to deserve clowns like Hillary, Trump and Cruz? It is like a a reality show. American Idol. the most entertaining one will win. Shame.
Nice. Expose some savage to indoor plumbing and toilet paper for a few years and they think they can run the joint.
Nice. Expose some idiot American to reality a few times and they think they can make fun of people who weren't as lucky as they were when they were born. Dierking the clown. Tell me, what have you accomplished in this life. You are lower than the Nebraska guy you are belittling. Assclown
Husky guy. Don't take offense will ya? It is that I haven't given Dierking the assclown his medication and I had to respond to him.
Oh really, tough guy, this is what you consider reality? As far as accomplishments, look I don't like to brag, but you know that bit about your toothpaste being recommended by four out of five dentists? That's right, number five, right here. I get more tail than a park bench from residuals alone.
I could care less what some folks who I have never met in my life are saying about me on the internet.
