again, NTN that has nothing to do with jobs. thats their offshore holdings/revenue they are stashing. Honestly if the corporate tax rate is low they'd probably still be doing that. Either way though you lower it for them and they aren't going to bring jobs here you are simply making their fat wallets happy -- if they want too of course anyway. I'm not an anti corporation guy, I completely understand their importance believe me, but it frustrates the hell out of me that Republicans want us to bend over for them and let them fuck us over some more and regular, generally smart people actually think thats a great plan. Bending over for them in terms of free trade is what got us to where we are in the first place!
It's trillions of dollars that could be invested in other business ventures and/or taxed at a lower rate if we could figure out a way to entice them back. There's no guarantee it turns into jobs but a more friendly business environment generally going to create more jobs. I know you guys hate Reagan and his tax cuts but the economy expanded tremendously and created a huge amount of jobs under his watch. The problem was the tax cuts didn't have matching spending cuts.
Ronald Reagan was great if you love deficits as far as the eye can see, Wall Street stripmining American businesses of their productive assets and the near total destruction of the domestic manufacturing sector. Other than that, he's kind of blah.
Reagan was the first mass marketed President. All slogan and little substance aside from his pet projects, which were to destroy the post-WWII consensus on taxes and to make sure the Commies didn't take the western hemisphere in the course of their long-overdue collapse. The first endeavor was kind of long overdue as well. The tax brackets were out of whack and reflected a different America than the one we had in 1980. We went overboard when we fixed them and that's part of the problem today.
You forgot to mention income inequality. That trend really took off under Reagan. Before that it was not really a problem. Now we are back to pre-WWI levels. And it will only get worse with the corrupting influence of money in politics. The Times ran a story early this week how I think it was 158 families have given half of all the money given to political campaigns this year. So that's 158 families on one side, and everybody else on the other. And of course most of that money went to the GOP. Ftr I have a limited appetite for discussing politics here, believe it or not. Heh. But on this business about rich people are who create jobs, that ignores several important considerations. First of all a huge percentage of jobs are working for corporations, and the owners of those corporations are not all rich, to say the least, so there's that. But more signficant is that no one hires anyone unless they think there's a profit in it. And that depends on the market. No matter how much money Richie Rich has, he doesn't hire anyone to make widgets unless he thinks there's a market to sell widgets. And what does Richie have to see to see there's a market for his widgets? Demand. And where does demand come from? Only rich people? Well, there's on a per capita basis certainly more demand from the rich. But it's far from all rich people who create demand. So this business about how it's only rich people that hire you is misleading.
glad cruz smacked down the moderators. kasich asked about legalizing marijuana and starts flapping his gums about over dosing. derp.
When the GOP starts talking income inequality (and then votes against any kind of legislation like increasing the minimum wage and upping taxation of the wealthy) and even blames it on the Dems it's pretty laughable. Flat tax rates (vs progressive income tax) doesn't even out the playing field. And just generalized comments about closing loopholes doesn't hack it. It might sound good in a debate but there's no substance there.
*last night, back and forth between Mets and this* What was notable was the way he (Cruz) listed all the other candidates on stage and paired them with every one of Harwood's swipes that were previously directed at each of them, and in rapid-fire succession no less, i.e. something that obviously couldn't have been scripted. Cruz while too rich for my taste if nothing else showed that he's one sharp mofo. Overall what hurt was that CNBC is a business news channel, which is very different from being an economic news channel, i.e. the interests of monied shareholders vs. national economic policy are two different conversations. On a sidenote, Jeb Bush ill-advisedly tried to go 'big brother bully' on Rubio and it blew up in his mama's boy face. Rubio was lying in wait for him, cut him off at the pass and made Bush come across looking as about as much of a "milquetoast badass" as Dan Akyroyd in 'Trading Places' as Louis Wainwright III. Trump?.........how this guy gets away with half the shit he says is mind boggling--what a total assclown. That said, overall it was better from a cheap entertainment standpoint than the Hillary 'play nice' pre-coronation pablum currently being scripted by Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, the DNC's Don-Kirshner. Thus far, GOP debates: 3, Democrat debates: 1. Debbie Don Kirschner: for the people.
"....deGrom into the stretch, here's the pitch...fouled off again....Royals making him throw pitches....." Thanks for your full-viewership feedback and insights from the debate.
Yea - Rubio pretty much stole the show and probably stuck a fork in Bush, thankfully. Trump is trump. If they keep playing him sounding like a moron maybe it will sink it at some point. They really need to thin the field for these things. The moderators were acting like they were part of the debate until cruz smacked them down. assholes.
Jeb Bush isn't in his element. He has a Ben Carson kind of personality and they're trying to make him into something he isn't: combative and he obviously isn't comfortable in that role. He acts like he doesn't want to be there (or even run for Pres). From the beginning they should have just went with the flow with him and he might be doing a lot better. And coming off as a gentler person and not a phony. I think at this time the only reason Carson is polling well is because of the evangelical vote which is very organized. Karl Rove knew all about that with George W and used it very effectively.
The moderators deserved every bit of what they got. I can only imagine the outrage we would have seen from the left if there were a democratic debate on fox news where the moderators were badgering the candidates like they were last night. Cruz put them in there place and they behaved for a little while. Not the entire rest of the debate, but they were better.
Actually the moderators pushed hard on all of the Democratic candidates buttons. They were trying to start fights among the candidates all night long. I understand where the impetus for this comes from given the nature of the Democrats barely concealed coronation of Hillary. I'm thinking the moderators last night were just trying to cut down the field. How long can this many candidates of whom half are laughable survive?
Did you watch last night? I saw the D debate, it wasn't nearly as obnoxious as the moderators last night.
