Really don't know how to react about to these incidents any more. They are becoming so commonplace and accepted, I don't even know how to rationalize the circumstances around them. It's almost like the Terry Gilliam film Brazil where the people are sitting eating tea and crumpets while a few more bombs go off around them.... just another day in "free world," I guess.

That's not true. Knife wounds can be just as devastating. Bullets from hand guns can actually sear the damage they do from their heat, so vital strikes are actually very important. With a knife you can stab and twist, that's a lot harder help. I study crime and I've seen these types of injuries. Both are deadly tho. A dangerous person turns anything into a weapon. so now every scumbag that commits a crime like this is schizophrenic or has some sort of mental illness? When do we decide this? after he commits this horrible act? is it possible for people to commit an act like this when they are not mentally ill? A week ago this guy was just a normal, angry individual. they are everywhere. he commits a crime like this so we say he's schizophrenic? I am asking these as questions because I seriously do not know.. I am not an expert in criminology or psychology but I am not liking the narrative that people who aren't mentally ill can't commit a crime like this. Maybe he passed the background check and got the gun because he wasn't mentally ill? This is a little different than that kid in South Carolina who very obviously had mental issues. This guy just seems like an angry little bitch to me. Unfortunately there are people in this world who when dealt with a little bit of adversity (losing job, people picking on him at work.. etc) are deciding to do something awful like this. Suppose he didn't do taxpayers a favor and off himself before police arrested him. He could be in jail right now and there would certainly be the argument that he was mentally ill... his lawyers would probably use that in a trial. Now suppose he didn't decide to shoot those people and that morning he simply faxed in the same manifesto and was arrested for speeding. Would we be saying he was schizophrenic still? or is it because he shot those people?
i'll say the obvious. knives are just as dangerous but less effective. If he ran up and cut the reporter the cameraman probably knocks him the fuck out and we have an injured reporter and a jailed assailant. not 3 dead people, 1 seriously injured and an extra cowardly video for the world to see
Did you check out his letter? I saw it somewhere. The content of that letter def show that he has some mental issue. I'm not saying all people, but clearly this one has some issues. As an aside, we did a family vacation down at Smith Mountain Lake years ago. Three families rented houses all in a row, lakefront, big lawns, docks, 2 pontoon boats and a speed boat. Had a ton of fun. _

its a beautiful area of the country. there are some weird people living there though. I used to spend a lot of time in Roanoke. I really loved the scenery. would be a great place to retire - beautiful natural scenery, potential for plenty of outdoor activity, hunting,fishing, hiking, etc... cheap. not too hot in the summer, not too cold in the winter. but there are some weird people living there
shit. there are people I bowl with that have it in their head there is a race war going on. I don't think they are going to take every opportunity to hurt people. I don't think they are schizophrenic. just alcoholics maybe. If they went on a spree people would say they are mentally ill, which is my point - if these folks aren't mentally ill until they commit the act, then what kind of system do we have for prevention. nothing?
