We have Stump Mitchell and Dennard Wilson in house who can be quickly interviewed minutes after Bowles departure before we sign Harbaugh to remain in compliance
This right here is my problem with the Rooney rule, it forces teams who know who they want to interview a minority candidate just because. The Raiders made a mockery of it last offseason. The rule has good intentions but it's a joke at this point.
Yea it's a sham and everyone knows it. Thing is everyone is also equally impeded by it. Suppose the Fish want to fire Gase and give chase for Harbaugh too (Ross/Michigan connection) we desperately want Harbaugh as well. As soon as both coaches are fired both teams must immediately start their sham interview and make sure they have a candidate right there immediately ready to talk for 20 minutes. Then it's a race to get to the Harbaugh camp first and commence negotiations (provided he's interested) This is why we needed to fire Bowles in season and finish our Rooney rule compliance in season (if this is allowed) so we can proceed to Harbaugh immediately
Actually you may have a good point. We may be exempt That said if Harbaugh falls through we're definitely bringing in Ron Rivera. And not as a sham interview he's going to have a real shot at the job
I want no part of Shanahan either, another guy we were rumored to be interested in... i can list a few reasons, 1 being the guy is old and the game passed him by. Usimg your logic there should be a rule forcing teams to interview someone collecting social security, to show no bias against age. If you truly think my feelings toward Tomlin are in any way a product of his race, and/or are the drivibg force behind why the Rooney rule exists then u are clearly missing the point.
So now we've alienated Harbaugh by basically telling him we're not interested. It's not like they would come out a week later after firing bowles and suddenly claim now the interest is real. That would just be embarrassing...and further dissuade Harbaugh from a dysfunctional FO. The NYJ statement was a loss-loss.
The official line is exactly what Harbaugh, or any other coach with a bowl game coming up in five days would want the team to say.
Or, this leadership might go VFR direct to Stanford and conduct a proper and legal interview of their HC and then go from there.
Wtf did we even say anything? We need to help Stone Age Bowles save face that bad? No body wants him. Not even his old high school.
It would take a huge leap of logic for anyone to accuse the Jets of any sort of racial bias against minority coaches after giving Bowles this extra year, and yet the Jets will have to do the song and dance if their preferred candidate isn’t a minority.
Don't forget Herman Edwards. Jets have been one of the more progressive franchises in all of sports. They could NEVER make a case against them.
Well it doesn’t go against the cap so if they should just give the man what he wants. Including firing Mac if need be.
