There’s no reason to release a statement at all. Bowles is getting fired in 6 days, why was this necessary? They could’ve just ignored the report... Name dropping Harbaugh is just the icing on the cake of how stupid this is.
ProFootballTalk just reported this as well but stands by their original report about Jets pursuing Harbaugh,
Agreed bad move...... Easily the most qualified candidate if he would consider coming here.... If we end up getting a total unknown like Carmichael, Bienamy, or another hot shot coordinator that has bounties of talent to thank for their success....we won't sniff playoffs for another 5 years!
I agree...we have to change our mindset from "How can we convince a HC to take this lowly job" to "Get on your knees and beg us for this job".
Look, Chris’s intention was probably to give Bowles and his family a nice Christmas by squashing this report. But it was dumb.
An hour after Bowles if fired a new tweet will read: "We would like to thank Todd Bowles and wish him well. Anyone got Jim Harbaugh's number?" ...possibly another early exit from the playoffs? Brady announcing his retirement? There's a few scenarios where Bill sees the writing on the wall and starts looking at the grass on the other side of the fence.
One of the reasons Bowles should’ve been fired weeks ago is to be able to start chasing Harbaugh without looking bad. Another is cause he sucks as a HC.
All this means is shit the report got out that we’re pursuing a new HC before we’ve fired old HC. LMAO at anyone that thinks Bowles is coming back because of this report. I got a bridge to sell you in Brooklyn, interested?
I will say that bringing back both Bowles AND Macc would be a really tough sell to the fanbase. It would be a PR nightmare of epic proportions perhaps rivalling the immortal: "You can never have enough Tebow"..
Florio is also reporting if Harbaugh is hired by the Jets, Maccagnan is likely to stay. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.c...im-harbaugh-mike-maccagnan-likely-would-stay/
