    Doesn't effect it at all.

It's not like a franchise tag.

There's not many other options out there so I guess we gotta stick with him. He's definitely a top 10 receiver IF he can get his drops under control, but that's a big IF.

I still say draft a WR early and develop him. It normally takes 3 years for a WR to pan out anyway and Sanchez needs another weapon.

nfl.com projects the jets take Damian Williams (wr) in the first round.

He was Sanchezs favorite WR last year @ USC. Curious as to what people think of this guy compared to say Tate ?

Id rather see the Jets draft a defensive end in the first round or trade down though.

I really just don't see us drafting a WR in the 1st round, 2nd maybe but we have our #1 and 2 set for the next 5 years, I just want a solid #3/slot reliable 3rd down sort of guy, those guys are available in later rounds.

Well the only reason id see us grabbing one in the first is if this guy who Sanchez was very close with (damian williams or w.e) is any good. Just because having them being close (and playing together @ usc) could make his transition better.

But I know NOTHING about how good the guy is dont follow college ball.

Williams is a solid route runner and has pretty good hands. From what I watched every once in awhile he forgets to plant himself behind the first down maker instead of right in front of it. But he's really solid, defiantly a good #3 and a potential #2 receiver.

I don't know if the jets will bite 1st round for him though... DE or Safety if Rhodes is gone is def a bigger concern.

If I'm not mistaken, and I may be, it IS a franchise tag. It's not an "exclusive" franchise tag.

The Jets should not draft a WR early. In my opinion, the positions that could use the most help are (in no specific order) DL, CB, OL, LB that can cover TEs, and S (depending on what happens with Rhodes). The Jets have a really good group of receivers with Cotchery, Edwards, Keller, and Leon out of the backfield.

This was already going to happen as soon as we traded for him. I don't understand what some of you are opining about.

An RFA tender has absolutely nothing to do with either the franchise or transition tags. We're good.

I agree with this. In fact, tendering Edwards really only makes sense if they're not going to draft a WR in the first round, which is the reason to do it. When you don't have a lot of draft choices, you want to tie up current starters as much as you can, especially if there isn't going to be a salary cap anyway and the Jets are restricted in how they can sign free agents.

I wonder if there was a case he would be traded what team would jump on that deal? Ravens or Jags possibly?

I'm on board with this, but if someone wanted to match his 1st and 3rd round tender, I would drive Braylon to the airport.

How about the fact that Edwards goes into this game with some love.

I can only imagine a more relaxed Edwards...an even happier Edwards..and a more productive Edwards. If we felt every time he dropped a big pass he was writing his ticket out of here..imagine he felt the same way.

I love the timing of this even more than the decision itself.

RFAs can be sign by any team willing to trade a 1st and 3rd round pick... I doubt any team picking in the top 20 would sign him, so its down to a dozen teams minus the Jets... So its not set in stone he'll be in NY for 5 years, but more than likely, he'll get a contract from the Jets...

Bigger questions are..... Whats Braylon Edwards worth? Whats the duration of the contract?

Good News! And I believe a training camp with Henry Ellard will do WONDERS for his pass catching abilities. (Ellard has incredible hands as a player. His pearls of wisdom will be a tremedous asset to Braylon).

With the uncapped year, the Jets have almost no choice. Signing any RFA's next year is going to carry far too high a price in compensation. That's why you can forget Boldin or Marshall. We'de have to trade for their rights.

Edwards has endeared himself here with his blocking. Yes, some of his drops have been big. I'm not sure he'll ever have reliable hands. I think he is what he is, still, I'm glad we'll keep him.

i'm glad he's staying. he's been giving 110% you can tell. we make a big deal of his drops, which weren't that many overall honestly, (yes a couple were in crucial situations) but once you factor in the impossible catches he's made it negates that part in the end. Hopefully he can improve but its not the end of the world right now

he's a threat that has to be dealt with in the defensive gameplan and the guy can block. an offseason/training camp with mark will make a huge difference.

and no way are the jets drafting a WR in the first round. You can beat it's going to be a DE/DT or perhaps a very good offensive line prospect if they happened to be available. this team is going to maintain it's identity and gather depth or replacements for aging players at the critical positions.

Don't jump the gun just yet. This is a gamble and however unlikely it is that someone would give up a 1st and a 3rd to sign Edwards, it could happen.

As with all gambles, you have to be happy with the flip-side as well. Would we all be happy to see Edwards leave but get extra 1st and 3rd draft picks?

Personally, I hope he stays as he could become a top receiver if he could iron out those drops on deep balls.
