Report: Jets GM Mike Maccagnan on the hot seat

I’m so glad we are leaving everything up to a guy who was booted out of Miami just a few months ago. Even if I am not the biggest Mac fan this franchise is a joke.

 

Joe Douglas from Philly is rumored to be the next GM.

The New York Jets have fired general manager Mike Maccagnan and have named head coach Adam Gase as their acting GM.

The Jets announced the decision Wednesday in a statement by team CEO Christopher Johnson.

The Jets also fired vice president of player personnel Brian Heimerdinger, sources tell ESPN's Adam Schefter and Jeff Darlington.

So how do they screw up in finding his replacement?

New GM better be know Gase prior to the hire that's all I can say at the moment.

I thought Heimerdinger was generally highly spoken of?

 

wtf.... is this worse than the Knicks not getting 1st or the Giants getting Daniel Jones?

Schefter is perplexed on the timing as well. Should have done it right after draft.

"This morning, I informed Mike that he was being relieved of his duties as General Manager of the team, effective immediately. Mike helped to execute the strategic vision of the organization during the last four seasons and especially the past few months. However, I came to the decision to make a change after much thought and a careful assessment of what would be in the best long-term interests of the New York Jets.

I will start a search for our new General Manager immediately. In the interim, Coach Gase will be the acting General Manager.

I would like to thank Mike for his time and efforts during his tenure, and I wish only the best for him and his wife Betty.”

 

So a yes man for Gase? Not sure how to feel about this.

 

Guess they didn’t want to prove Mike Lombardi’s scoop even more than they just did, sheesh

 

I wonder who, if anybody, is in mind for the replacement? I don't see Gase as acting GM as an issue as long as they fill the role in the next couple months. Really scouting for the draft starts in August and free agency is essentially done outside of camp bodies. I figured this was inevitable but wouldn't happen until early next off season. I actually like the move as it gives the new regime proper prep time for next years free agency and draft.
