lol yeah flacco is another mediocre QB but he outplayed kap in that game and got the win nope i didn't. last years unused space is already on our cap now. the numbers you are looking at is the top 51 which is all that counts in the offseason, but once the season starts, everyone on the roster counts so it adds more cost to the cap. we have a lot of people to either resign or replace next year won't be a spending spree for us by any means
People preached this exact same thing a few months ago and here we are with the top two free agents signed, key players brought back and still some room to spare.
i didn't preach that at all. i said we had a shit ton of money to spend this off season to improve. next offseason we won't
I didn't say you. But quite a few were raining on the parade claiming that we didn't have anywhere near as much money as we thought because we had to resign or own guys or let them walk. That clearly wasn't an issue. There are some VERY easy cuts to make this coming offseason that will open up space as well. Winters, Roberts, Harrison and then you have guys like Williamson and Trumaine that can be cut to save money and then you have guys like Osemele who you'll either cut or resign to a better cap number. Long story short, I'm less worried about next offseason than I was this offseason.
oh i remember that for sure lol just like people are saying we can spend a bunch next year now. as far as easy cuts go, osemele? no way, unless he performs really badly for some reason, i can't see cutting him. especially with winters? we are weak at o-line, cutting both starting guards is not a wise option. same goes with harrison. even if we draft his replacement you don't want to have to rely on a rookie and have 0 depth. I don't see us making any cuts on the o-line. won't help us 1 bit. roberts i agree on it, he has an out after this season so we likely cut him to save 6 mil. the deal we gave him was basically a 1 year deal. we can't cut trumaine, it would only save 3 mil and we'd have to replace him. you don't cut your best CB to save 3 million. not an option. williamson is possible but i doubt it since we are letting lee walk or trading him. that just creates a hole which means we replace him the only one we can cut to help the cap would be roberts so hopefully some younger CBs step up but if we do that, that means we lose our CB2, and CB3 next offseason.
Curious to see if Mac makes any signings tonight/tomorrow A.M. , since the compensatory pick deadline is tonight. IMO, resigning Mo Claiborne should be a priority , maybe even bring in Crabtree on a one year deal
comp pick deadline didn't matter for the jets so i doubt it. we already signed bell, crowder, mosley and didn't really lose anyone. we won't get a comp pick next year regardless after handing out those contracts.
Don't expect any comp picks but there should be more activity tonight/tomorrow and if there anyone Mac is interested in, the signing would likely come soon. We don't know who he reached out to before, some, like Claiborne could have been waiting to see what offer he gets post comp pick deadline. The only reported offer he had was from Tampa, one year vet minimum. If he doesn't get a better offer from another team, Mac should beat Tampa's offer. Especially given Williams aggressive D which leaves his corners exposed.
he could be interested for sure just saying that there was no point for the jets to wait out the comp pick deadline as we aren't getting any. if we do sign someone it's based on the positions we didn't address in the draft
As I said, don't know what conversations have been had, some players could be waiting to see what offers they received now, before accepting an offer. Especially someone like Mo who was only offered a 1 year league Minimum deal. Mac did recently say there were positions he was looking to add competition to in FA, camp cuts or trades. Have to think Center is one and CB Should be another
yup very true. mac did say he thought about bringing back mo but is waiting to see his health. that's why ziggy isn't signed either. he won't be ready until august at best to play and teams aren't sure if he'll be able to play effectively. both are injury risks. it would be nice if a good C gets cut for someone younger and cheaper though and we scoop them up
What, no DTs? Seriously, WR might be another position for which it would be good to bring someone in. I'm not so sure about Crabtree, but taking a look at the list of unsigned WRs, he looks like the best option. Darn that's one ugly list. I saw a player on there that I had forgotten about...Rashad Greene. He was great at FSU, but hasn't done squat in the NFL. Is he just too slow? Can't learn the offenses? Can't beat presses?
Greene was a beast with FSU, but they had several great WRs at the time, he had a bad Achilles tear early in his career and that pretty much ended it. I think Crabtree would be a very good red zone target ,tough to defend and another target for Darnold. We have settled for FGs too often vs TDs. Hopefully that trend changes.
I hate to hear that about Greene!! He was so talented. Thanks for the info. Yeah, the more I think about it, Crabtree would provide a good a target for Sam and greatly improve our depth at WR.
Pretty much what happened to his FSU Teammate Kelvin Benjamin. But Benjamin had a great rookie year before his knee injury. I believe he had a second knee injury 2 years ago too, or he would be worth a flyer.
The red zone was supposed to be a strength of Darnold's, as it was in college, but it didn't work out that way - as least in his rookie season. I agree, Crabtree would be a good red zone threat but that WR room sure is crowded
You think Crabtree is looking to come in as the 4th wr? And if he is , how are we developing young talent to replace Robbie, Q or Crowder when the age or price out if we are signing 30 year old receivers for depth? This isn’t just to you, anyone can answer
I do not think he's looking to be the 4th receiver but he may not have much choice otherwise around this league. There isn't much young talent at the position here to develop, true, but at the same time it's already May and the draft is over, its time to make sure the roster is ready for opening day 2019
