I tried and tried this morning and couldn't find anything, just remember somebody on here saying they read/heard it in the thread at the time.

Maybe we should scrap this line of thought and go with the damaged leg angle lol

    edit two posts up lol

Amen to that. It's natural to get excited by big-name free agent signings, but they mean there was a failure to fill that gap with a draftee. Now of course it's not possible to hit on every draft pick and holes are going to appear - but that doesn't mean there wasn't a failure, either in talent assessment (drafting a player who didn't pan out) or in philosophy ('we don't need to draft o-linemen, they'll just magically appear somehow!'). Injuries are the wild card and can upset the most carefully thought-out plan.

BYZ you are correct that was what the agent said but I can swear that it is somewhere else that the Jets NEVER made an offer. I could be wrong but it sticks out in my mind because I remember thinking how could they not make an offer the only thing that justified it in my mind at the time was that they had moved on and were close to signing Wisniewsk,,,,,,but we can all rest easy now in hindsight, I mean who needs either of those guys or anyone else for that matter when we have Jonathan Harrison all is good. LOL

Meh, Glenn Naughton assumes and people take it as fact. He's a Jets apologist, just look at his other tweets.

The leg was a break, not all that concerning. The previous labrum tear was more of a concern to me. But he was a very experienced and productive center and that's what you want with a young QB. Instead, we're content with Harrison who has 4 games of "not screwing up too badly" as his entire NFL resume.

    They should have done better.

We should have had another centre, no doubt about that, even if it was to cover Harrison but ideally to be number 1.

As for Naughton, I have no idea who he was but I guess that is where the country life rumours came from to begin with.

Maybe this will help a bit, I believe he had his mind set on Carolina and was just testing out the FA market.

Matt Paradis speaks for first time as a member of the Panthers
    • by Steven Taranto
    • Mar 14, 1:24 PM

The end of the 2018 season brought with it the end of an era for the Carolina Panthers' offensive line, as All-Pro Center Ryan Kalil bid farewell to the game of professional football after an outstanding 12-year career. On Thursday afternoon, a new era at the center position may very well have begun.

After officially signing a three-year contract to join the Carolina Panthers, Matt Paradis addressed the Carolina media for the very first time as the team's newly-minted center. Paradis, who had played the first five seasons of his NFL career for the Denver Broncos, will wear the same No. 61 for the Panthers that he wore in Denver.

While Paradis had a number of options before him on the free agent market - Including opportunities that would have potentially availed him more money - Paradis stated that he and his representatives felt that the Panthers were the best fit for what he wanted out of a team.

Matt Paradis is at the podium https://t.co/nzGTVvLMOf

    — Carolina Panthers (@Panthers) March 14, 2019

"The culture, the continuity - It was a no brainer," said Paradis of the Panthers. "That culture's a big deal, and Carolina's got it. They've always been a team that I think people have always respected since I've been in the league. It's a team that you're gonna get their best shot: They work hard, they're tough, they're smart. That's a pretty cool thing to be a part of."

Paradis revealed that one of the biggest influences on his decision to join the Panthers was Richie Brockel, a fellow Boise State product and a fullback for the Panthers from 2010 to 2015.

"We worked out together a lot of the offseasons when we were both playing, so I'm very close with him," said Paradis. "He always spoke very highly of Carolina, loves it here, and still loves it here."

Outside of Brockel, Paradis stated did not have many connections to help sway him towards the Panthers. However, he has heard from a few Panthers players already: Namely Colorado native Christian McCaffrey(The son of Broncos great Ed McCaffrey) and cornerback Lorenzo Doss, who was a teammate of Paradis' on the Broncos. As of now, he has yet to speak with quarterback Cam Newton.

As a Panther, Paradis now faces no small task in trying to fill the shoes of Ryan Kalil both on the field and in the locker room. Paradis called Kalil a "phenomenal player" who had always done things the right way, and stated that Kalil was one of the main players that he tried to model his own game after.

"Being able to learn from him and go back and watch tape of him now even more will be very helpful to me going forward," said Paradis, who also expressed his admiration for Kalil's longevity. "I try to bring a lot of the stuff that he brought: The same type of leadership and hard work and toughness."

One only has to look at Paradis' career to date for an illustration of his toughness: After working his way up from the Broncos' practice squad, Paradis had started every game of his NFL career before breaking his fibula midway through the 2018 season. While a timeline is currently not set in stone as far as a return to the field is concerned, Paradis stated that he is looking to be fully cleared "sometime in June" as he continues his rehabilitation.

"We're ahead of schedule," said Paradis. "Great progress is coming forward, all the results have been fantastic. I'm excited to keep progressing towards being fully healthy."

Well before his time with the Panthers began, the biggest moment of Paradis' career came against the team that he now plays for. Paradis was a member of the Broncos team that defeated the Panthers in Super Bowl 50, and his assignment in the game had been to block Star Lotulelei and Luke Kuechly.

For his efforts, Paradis was rewarded with the ultimate prize of a Super Bowl Championship. However, Paradis is now three years removed from his ultimate triumph. And in Carolina, there's no doubt as to where Paradis wants to go.

"I'm looking forward to getting back (to the Super Bowl) with the Panthers."

Lombardi started them and others have come out to support them. Gase is apparently not at all happy with him and has been throwing his weight around.

So Gase wants full control if we’re to believe the rumors. Bringing in his buddy to replace Mac would be full control.

Interesting as from what I read that didn’t really work out for him in Miami.

That was the talk on the Pod casts I listened to yesterday. Rumors are that Gase was angry at how Mac handled the situation with Paradis, never actually getting to the point of offering him a contract, and that he think Mac "can't make decisions" in a timely manner. Gase is a super type A person and Mac apparently is not and its frustrating him to no end.... If the rumors on the pods are to be believed.

I think Mac really might have saved his ass with this draft.

Whether there is a rift between Gase and Mac or that's all rumor, Mac did one hell of a job this offseason. Now it's time for Gase to put his coaching skills to the test and put out a winning product. Hard to argue that the talent is not there to win quite a few ball games. Offense has a potential franchise QB surrounded by weapons at receiver and a jaugernaut at RB. Defense is stacked with talent.

This year should be a fun year. I know that's been said for many years, but Sam Darnold really excites me going into year 2. Things feel different with him at the helm

What weight does Gase have at this point in his Jets career btw?

He is brand new in the building, coming at his second HC job from the point of a failure in the first with a track record of temper tantrums in the book, he has a DC that can replace him as HC at the drop of a hat, so I can't see he is sitting on some kind of power base at the moment.

New coach with a GM that is years into the rebuild and who has not made the playoffs since year one. Of the two of them Mac is much more likely to go. Gase can point to the lack of help on the Oline as a failure of Mac's to make his case if he wants. Again, this is if these rumors are true. Unless we have a much better season than I anticipate I can see Mac getting the door. He spent a ton of money this offseason but didn't fix our big issues at interior Oline, edge or corner.

I wasn't getting at you :) Was just saying he didn't seem to have much of a power base to me, the lack of playoff positions and Mac count for squat as permission to rebuild boss is in play.

It is likely a pile of crap rumour to shit stir.

If you stepped back away from the situation you might see that it makes much more sense to fire a GM now rather than right before the FA and Draft season. And as far as I know, Macc was not extended so he's a lame duck right now. If the Johnsons weigh what he's done in five years and don't think he's done enough (certainly what I think, but I'm not them), and they want someone new, now is the time to fire him and give the new guy a chance to learn the organization and revamp the socuting dept., etc.

    It's not "bullshit".

Except we just hired Gase, so any GM we hire now is going to be Gase's yes-man. Do we really want that?

At this point I don't even fucking care. Mac has proven to be substandard. Gase wants to pull this shit and get full control...ok fine you got it pal. GIVE HIM full control and let's see what you got.
If he's too scared of the tri state area then I don't want him as my center

Of course not, but that's not to say the new GM would be Gase's yes man either. It depends on who the guy is. I don't know who might be available, but for instance what if Peyton Manning were hired? I doubt he would be Gase's yes man. Or maybe another alternative would be to hire a Pres. of Football Ops over Macc and Gase? This would actually be my preference since it would allow them to keep Macc - on the assumption that he has learned some things now - but allow someone with an actual winning pedigree to shape the team and player acquisitions.

Could be the Jets. After all, they are trendsetters. Who hires a coach only to have him immediately resign at the press conference and go to a division rival? The Jets.
