The Flacco - Moore combo worked well today. The problem is that combination won't be available next year. Aren't the Jets working on improvement for the future?
It's not about the combination - it's about realizing Moore's potential and developing him into a starter, which he is projected to be next year, whether Flacco is here or not. He broke out today with 156 yards, and Flacco was a big reason for that. Moore's breakout performance is the positive that we can take away from this game, and I am not sure it is there had White started. Joe didn't light the world of fire, but he did have a solid game and helped helped young players, like Moore, improve. That's really what you want out of your back-up QB.
One guy having a better than average day for him is nothing to base such decisions on; he's certainly not the only one who needs improvement. If Moore has a crap game in Houston will Flacco be responsible for that? And what will it say for the future of either?
I am not sure I am following your logic here, but this is irrelevant, I believe I've made my point. Flacco is not a great player anymore, which is why he is a sub now, but for a sub he is decent, and I feel did better for the development of likes of Moore and Carter (future starters) than White (possible future back-up) would have done in this game. Next week I want to see Zach back, hopefully with 4 full weeks on a 2-4 week timetable, he will be 100% and ready to go.
The logic is simple and relevant - Flacco is not part of the future so each play he operates is one less for those who will be with the team next year. Quarterback development should be approached in concert with all the other players expected to perform next year. I want to see Wilson, White, and even Johnson progressing at the same time as the Moores and Carters. I also am not ready to claim that anyone has made a huge leap in their development based on a single game. Other than that, my only qualification for next week is the quarterback should be the guy with the best chance of progressing himself while enabling the entire team to progress and win.
