Well myers right now FGs 12-17 71% XP 26-28 92% Long 54 1-3 from 50+ Ficken Fgs 7-10 70% XP 11-11 100% long 53 2-4 from 50+ Roberts 12 returns 0TDs 28.6 avg long 66 Vyncent Smith 4 returns 0TDs 37.8 avg long 78 Seems like we aren't missing them at all. that's why you don't pay special teamers for 1 outlier year.
I would've preferred to have had Myers week one, whether we're in a better position now or whatever. He's been terrible this year but he still kicks at 82% for his career and I'd venture to guess we beat the Bills week one if he's on the roster. Roberts is meh. There's no point in ever paying a kick returner anymore with all the touch backs. Recycle Vycint Smith's every 4 years so I agree with that sentiment.
Whining about letting these two go was always dramatic and self-loathing. Neither of them were anything more than JAGs before last year. Paying people based off one good year out of however many would have been stupid.
Meyers I would have re-signed. Roberts - no. 31 years old and I felt like his season last year was the flash in the pan. Meyers? So far it appears not the huge mistake it looked like although it did cost the Jets week 1.
Yeah cuz it's smart to let a Pro Bowl player and a All Pro go when ya got $100 million in cap space to spend. Suuuuuure.
post didn't age well. Myers is the hero last night, kicking the game winning kick in overtime to beat the undefeated 49ers and get his team to 8-2. ficken has made some garbage time kicks tho
Macagnans tenure will haunt this team for a couple of more seasons. Insisting on keeping the special teams coach when hiring a new HC but not re-signing a key player on special teams is mind boggling. Glad Meyers won the game for Seattle.
He also hit the go ahead FG in regulation. With a kicker we're 3-6. I mean ultimately still not much of a playoff threat but it would've been nice.
not so sure about that last part. the last playoff spot would be Buffalo at 5-4, who would lose a tiebreaker, given their week 1 loss to the Jets. so 3-6 with a soft schedule, there would still be hope here again- IF the Jets ponied up the measly extra million or whatever that Myers wanted
Right. And the chance to play the Raiders, Steelers and Bills again and grab those tie breakers... I guess in the words of Major League: "I guess there's only one thing left to do. Win the whole fucking thing."
That game last night reminded me of the Jets/Pittsburgh playoff game in 05. We drafted Nuge in the 2nd round the following year because we were a field goal kicker away from being a SB team. Special teams can make or break good NFL teams. Bill Parcells was obsessed about them.
Just ask Brady how many SB he won because of having a good kicker. Special teams is just as important as defense and offense, too bad GMs don’t focus on building up all three aspects of their teams.
Kickers are the leading scorers in NFL history....saying they're worthless, a dime a dozen, just shows stupidity. The worse feeling is losing a close, hard fought game with our kicker misses a layup, or the other kicker nails a 50 yarder as time expires.
