If the non-religious people here were respectful and acted like adults, I would be thrilled to have them posting in this thread, but all they seem to want to do is post vulgar, abusive, and insulting attacks. I've given up trying to start an intelligent discussion with these people, so unfortunately I have to just try to ignore them and post about all of the great things religious people have done, and continue to do, around the world. And how helpful religion can be for those who give it an honest try. My Catholic Faith has enriched my life so much that I feel obligated to share it with others. That's really why I'm doing this.
I wonder how many of those priests would never commit abuse if they could just release themselves with the divine blessing. Might work great if the monasteries were not separated by gender.
Well, I will confess I've never studied what you think Catholics are supposed to be studying because despite being a confirmed Catholic from a very religious family, the idea of actually studying the doctrine, you know, in the manner that people with, ahem, EXTENSIVE SCIENCE BACKGROUNDS are taught to study things, I was raised to have FAITH. You know, belief in the absence of proof. Faith is something you are so obviously and sadly lacking, which makes you no different from almost everybody else except for your refusal to acknowledge it. Sad. By the way, its Mormons who have some doctrinal belief that the Constitution was divinely inspired. That's right, that whack-job sect started by a serial pedophile. He was also a huge fan of the Pearl of Great Price, you two have a lot in common. I wonder why the Almighty needed to change his divine mind some 27 times on the Constitution.
I have to respectfully disagree. There is no way the op would lay down the passage of the weakly sermon. In doing so he would be abandoning his noble cause of enlightening our sinful souls, a sin in itself.
I feel your pain. Not being the scholar of the religion, I'm genuinely curious what is the difference between Catholic and Mormon teachings? No bs, real question.
Oh, for fucks sake. The Mormons believe that when Jesus was resurrected he resurfaced in North America with the Indians. And that God revealed his truths directly to Joseph Smith, many of which such revelations were that his strong feelings of arousal for whatever lithe young broad was nearest to him was a sign that he was to take her as another wife. I shit you not. And he found a group of idiots to buy his line of bullshit and its now a major religion. When archaeologists dig this up they won't know whether to laugh or cry.
You gotta be kidding me. I mean I get the drive but why would anyone actually believe him?! Still, at least he was marrying them.
This thread was NEVER intended to be "respectful" or a "discussion" - it was started by an adolescent because he had been excoriated in half a dozen other threads and was told to STFU by Petro, so this thread was started so that the OP could pontificate and preach some childish morality crap talking points handed down by his church elders under the quise of religion. Just like the Church. It's not about religion, it's about morality and fantasy land by someone struggling to be an adult. Now I can't speak for the non-religious folks here as I am a God fearing Roman Catholic who believes in Jesus and some of what my church teaches. I'm just an intelligent adult and I refuse to believe ALL of the bullshit my own Church throws down. I can think for myself thank you very much. However, if you want to have a discussion about religion but wish to exclude the "non-religious" folks I'd suggest you grow up, grow a pair or piss off because no one owns this thread. But as I religious person, I'll continue to post about the very sick underbelly of the Church as long as we continue to be bombarded with the delusional fantasy and morality crap. _
Excluding non-religious folk is very puzzling actually. I'd think the op would want those first and foremost. Logically, religious folks are already in the fold so Sunday sermons serve no purpose to people like you. There are no brownie points in preaching to people who already believe. There are major points however in trying to bring someone like me into the fold. So excluding non religious people kinda defeats the purpose of the discussion. Weird....
So you are starting to catch on to the hypocrisy? Actually, that's one of the Church's most forceful tools. _
i gave it an honest try, plenty of times when i was very young. the whole foundation of your religion is that being born human is a sin, and born in debt to Jesus, and the only way to pay it back is by submitting and dying. great deal. i wish jesus would of asked me first, i feel like im being billed for something i didnt order. i wasnt there to influence events that led to his death or any that could of prevented it. i refuse to feel guilty about anything, especially when it comes to natural inclinations that ifeel and was created with. the Story doesn't get any more believable as the years go by, it just gets more ludicrous. it's detrimental. its like a bad operating system in a computer. outdated, useless, obsolete. it is not necessary or the only way that you can be a good person.
I love when folks that know nothing about science try to explain something they don't understand. The notion that reality isn't real until it's observed, or that the mere act of observing something can change how it appears is completely misunderstood. The reason why observing them changes the structure is because they use an ELECTRON MICROSCOPE to study, which causes interference. Looking at something does NOT change it's composition on the quantum level. That's a common misconception actually. That doesn't make your claims factual. You do realize that "under god" was added to currency and to the pledge of alliance in the 1950s, long after George Washington, right? Washington would be turning in his grave if he saw how this country got hijacked by religious fanatics. In a nutshell America was founded on religious freedom and separation of church and state. It is appalling that religious people in power were able to get something like "under god" added to currency and pledge of allegiance when it directly counters what the country was actually founded on. This is how egotistical these people are. They think because they have strong faith, that everyone else has to be forced into believing their nonsense. I believe in god, but I'm offended by that notion being force fed to everyone. Just leave god out of it. Is it really that hard? Awareness of what? We know Christianity exists. 75% of Americans are Christian. We know about them.
mormon philosophy on women from one of their top apostles: "I dont care how you bring em, just bring'em young"
Just further proof that religion is all about control and what it can give to the people who wield that control, women and money in this case.
not to mention, why is it that everyone of note who has a revelation is always alone on a mountain or in the woods etc, never a group of people to make it possibly look more believable, it's always just 1 special whackbird who is solo. what a sham
It's kind of like when my wife comes in the house screaming about a huge snake outside, by the time I get outside there is nothing there for me to see, only her claim that the snake was big enough to swallow the entire house.
