I have to admit, I was a bit ticked off about our slow swimming in the FA pool, even as late as Saturday. After reading a lot posts the past couple of days though, I have gravitated toward the side of wait-and-see.

So far, the Tangini has done nothing to make us say "Crap, here we go again." Quite the contrary. They have cleaned up a cap that just a month ago seemed impossible to fix, they have yet to waste money on a FA we don't need, or overpay one we could use. They've restructured Chad, which practically everyone wanted. They seem to be committed to getting rid of Abe, which many people want (not me, but...) They won't spew at the mouth with all sorts of info a la the Hermway. And they haven't brought in Ramsey, who most of us don't even want here anyway.

Until they give me a reason to dislike them, I can't bad mouth them. Hell, I didn't give up on Herm until his flight was taking off for Kansas City. I would think these guys deserve a tad more respect than Herm...

Like I said...we wanted Kitna, however let him get move on to the next team, now he's a Lion. We will have to settle for Ramsey when we should have just got our man. .... just posting a thought.

I respect your point of view, but there is something that seems to be overlooked by many fans concerning FA visits, contract offerings, etc. The player in question has to WANT to come here. Just because we as fans want a particular player, and they bring him in to interview, doesn't mean that if he does not sign with us, the FO failed. Free Agency is about one thing first and foremost... who is going to give the guy the most money. I really feel that using Kitna as an example, perhaps he wanted more money or a longer deal than we were willing to give and so the front office held firm and said, "here is what we are offering. you go think about it". And that kind of negotiating, IMHO, is exactly what this team needed.

When all is said and done, I think the NYJets are going to get a lot of props around the league for having a super offseason

As a darksider I'm perfectly content with not signing anyone of "BIG NAME STATUS". The only thing they didn't do that I wanted them to do was cut Pennington, so we don't have to deal with his cap # next season after it is brutally apparent to everyone that his career is over.

good points! Maybe we don't want them badly enough to overpay? Maybe the Jets new FO/CS is smart enough to wait out the other teams...and not get into a bidding war that creates cap hell?

Give Tanny and Ginny a chance!

I agree. I'm not big on Ramsey at all.

Nonsense. These people throwing elite money at average players is stupid. The Deadskins have screwed themselves once again. Unless, of course, anyone actually believes Archuleta is worth $5 million a year?

Mike T is building through the draft, and not throwing big money at guys that will be ineffective when the Jets are ready to make their push. When the team reaches that point, then they'll have the money to sign a few key free agents. It's the smart way to do things.
