now 3 runs, all due to poor defense, none of it perez's fault. but ollie isn't "mentally tough" or something.
Griffey really is awful in the OF now - he knows that he can't go back on a ball, so he was playing much too deep on Easley there and cost a run.
Funny that there aren't any comments now about how important it was for the Reds to not give up a run this half-inning after scoring three in the top of the inning. When exactly does this "truth" apply?
The Reds bat out of order, and then Willie screws up by pointing it out to the umpire after the wrong batter makes an out. He's been in baseball for 35+ years, and he doesn't know how to handle this? (He should have waited until there was a hit.) What an idiot.
I don't think I'm ever going to get over this Brian Bannister thing. He's pitching a shut-out right now.
I've been sick to my stomach for close to two years now. The kid was stud in the minors he has a MLB pedigree and he actually pitched well for us before he got hurt. I don't knwo what Miniya saw in Mt Burgos that would lead them to want to trade for the guy. He was awful with the Royals in brief action and at the time we needed another SP because we didn't know what we had in Perez and Maine. Imagine if we had a rotation of Santana, Perez, Maine, Bannister and Pelfrey? Now don't get me wrong the Figueroa story is nice but asking this guy to fill in long term is going to be disasterous it's Alay Solar part 2 just waiting to happen. The Bannister trade looks even worse now that Pedro has missed significant time 2 years in a row. Coming into today Bannister had lost a few games in a row but one of those he took a 1 hitter into the 6th before he gave up a solo HR then defense cost him a run but I believe Cliff Lee pitched a 2 hitter that game.
Unless I'm understanding the rule wrong, after the Ross AB was the only time Willie could've appealed(though it really made no difference since Ross made out anyway). If the Mets had thrown a pitch to Freel it would've made Ross' AB legal hence Freel is still the proper batter since he follows him in the batting order. So while Willie did give Ross another AB instead of Freel he didn't really cost them an out.
They are pretty cool, you can actually order them from Louisville Slugger. I've got a bunch of autographed bats and broken bats and just plane game used bats so I've actually started about ordering one for my collection.
Are you sure it was Freel coming up after Ross, and not Patterson (also out of order)? I wasn't paying attention enough to see, but that is certainly what Gary Cohen was saying. If your interpretation is right, there was no reason for Randolph to do anything at all, so while I withdraw my statement that he was an idiot, going to the umpires at all was a waste of time.
I was listening on the radio, I guess I just assumed Freel was out on deck but if it was Patterson then you're right, and Willie is an idiot.
