45 games 83.1 innings 7 starts 3-3 4.43 ERA 1.40 WHIP He had a better year the previous one back with the Dodgers. His numbers are much better in the NL then in the AL but even the last several years since he left LA in 2001 have put him way behind the decent and reliable category. He is in the Latroy Hawkins class at this point in his career.
you might have just bitten off more than you can chew dude. Cappy defended Hawkins for a good 4 months a couple years ago
I wasn't crying or complaining. All I did was comment on the fact that bad outfield defense was a factor in the game and that I was looking forward to the return of Ellsbury and Cameron so it would be less likely in the future. No crying or complaining at all. As a side note, it couldn't make less sense for someone to get a lower grade for effort for trying too hard. I would hope we aren't using "average fans" as a measure of how good a guy has been. Or blown saves for that matter. A better approach would be to look at the .188 BAA, the 11 K/9, the fact that he has allowed hits in fewer than half of his appearances, the 30% K rate, allowing only a 55% balls in play rate, and the fact that he hasn't allowed a run in 67% of his appearances. Or would that be trying too hard?
Yeah, but as a reliever last year (which is the appropriate context here), he had a 2.52 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, a 3.25 K/BB and a 9.4 K/9. He was pretty damn good out of the pen for them. Oh come on, that's not true. I just said people should have been giving him more of a chance. You don't judge a reliever's performance on the results of a handful of appearances.
