HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! So basically, since the pitching is terrible, obviously the offense is to blame because they don't score an absurd amount of runs? How about since they have the best offense in baseball, they fix the pitching? That should tell you how bad the pitching is, if they have the best offense in baseball and still can't find ways to win.
That was a joke. Yes, they have to fix the pitching. In the meantime they have to outscore the competition. If they don't they will lose 20 in a row. Simple math. You don't do that by having your #3 hitter making the last out of the inning almost everytime he is up. As a Red Sox fan I can see why you would want them to leave him there though.
IMO, Matsui should be the #3. I've said it many times before. He's never in a prolonged slump, gets on base, and can hit for power. With ARod behind him, hitting the way he is, Matsui would get a sick number of pitches to hit. To me, it's simple. Switch Abreu and Matsui in the lineup. Damon CF Jeter SS Matsui LF ARod 3B Giambi DH Abreu RF Posada C Cano 2B Whoeverthehellisscrewinguptoday 1B That fixes the most glaring problem in the lineup. Of course, that still doesn't fix the pitching, but you have to start somewhere. Maybe if we can the starters a 4-5 run lead in the first, we can get them comfortable enough to pitch 6 full innings.
Matsui doesn't get on base at NEARLY the rate Abreu does. For his career, Abreu has a .412 OBP, Matsui has never topped .393, which also happens to be the WORST full season OBP for Abreu in his career.
The lineup isn't the problem frankly. Scoring 4 runs in 2 days sure does make you want to mix things up, but the lineup is the absolute furthest thing in my mind... It's the damn pitching staff from top to bottom, not Andy...And the unquestionably horrid bullpen.
The lineup isn't the problem. ONE thing I like about Torre is he doesn't change his lineup when the lineup is healthy, he leaves his lineup no matter what, I like that... I was just told Igawa is going to the pen for some time...$55 million(Rights to negotiate included) to be a reliever? :breakdance:
Negative. When the lineup is healthy...It is consistently... Damon Jeter Abreu ARod Giambi Matsui Posada Cano 1st baseman reject And you can't deny it's always like that when healthy...When someone gets hurt is when Torre screws up the lineup.
WHY WHY WHY?!?!? What the hell is going on here? God, we were led to believe you were a Yankee fan. Have you forsaken us?
Wow.. what a game for Igawa.. I am really surprised to see him do that although I wish Torre had left him in and let him work through that jam.. he couldn't have thrown that many pitches
Not worth the risk. Just hope the pen can finish this off. But don't ruin an otherwise brilliant performance by Igawa by going one-too-many. I give Joe credit for doing the right thing for once here. (See junc, I don't blame him for everything.) Now of course as I say it, Youklilis leads off with a hit...
it was move he had to make, Igawa's control was very shaky, and the ump wasn't giving either starter anything real inconsistent zone today. Also he was over 90 pitches.
Just because it was the right move doesn't mean Joe had to make it. The right move is not letting a rookie throw to 4 consecutive hitter who put it over the wall. But he did that a week ago. Joe deserves credit for doing the right thing here today. Fair is fair. If I'm going to bitch, I have to give fair credit too.
