Jeter definitely has a good chance to win it, even though he doesn't deserve it. He's not even the most deserving player on the Yankees.

Jeter probably will win, and the way the AL MVP voting has gone over the past few years it really won't be that much of a suprise. It seemed like maybe they were getting back on track after the atrocities that were the 01 and 02 winners but they appear to be headed back down that path.

Why not? He's been the better player, and has been more valuable to the team. Other than win shares, Giambi holds an advantage in the categories that should determine an MVP. But, like I said, Jeter has a better chance of winning because all the writers love him, and for some reason people still think batting average isn't a worthless statistic at the major league level.

So you are telling me that there would not be outrage that a .263 batter won MVP...:eek:hmy:

Of course there would be, and it would be by these old-school baseball types who actually think that batting average matters.

Its not a Reyes line, but not bad for a slap hitter.

I don't see how it matters. Anyone would take a .250 BA .420 OBP player over a .330 BA .400 OBP player. OBP renders BA virtually useless.

Ortiz and Beltran are both hitting in the .280s and they're considered legitimate MVP candidates. I don't think there would be any great outcry if someone hitting .260something won the award. Of course, Giambi's already been absolutely robbed of one MVP award and then the next year had a far inferior player on his team win the award, so this isn't new territory for him.

    Depends on the slugging %.

OBP is all well and good, slugging deterimes how well the person hits.

I'm still trying to figure out why that's so important? It's not like his OBP is close to being in the .460s or .470s.

Yea but usually the 2 are the same if a person has a high avg then there gonna have a high OBP. The only part that is gonna be different is the walks which are also good becuase a walk is just as good a hit but I still think you can get a decent quick look at a player by looking at avg without having to research them. But for the MVP choice sake I think you do definetly go farther then just looking at avg and do the research that needs to be done to find out how they're doing with runners in scoring posistion, etc...
