I've had this avatar and sig all year. I intended to change them every once in a while, but superstition made me leave them.

I love Wake, and he's been huge for us thru the years in the postseason. I'm okay, with throwing Wake tonight.

    what a night.

a 41 year old knuckleballer vs. a 36 year old dude with an exaggerated windup.

they said before the game some of these guys have never seen a knuckleball. you would hope that the indians would've brought in an instructor who could throw it so they could at least see the pitch before facing wakefield

That's actually fairly common. I'm not sure why.

As for bringing in some instructor or something, it's tough. Unless they are employed by the team in some other capacity, former knuckleball pitchers are unlikely to do because there is a strong fraternity among them. Wakefield visits with guys like Candiotti and Hough, and he has talked with the Neikro's to share tips. Aside from that, any random guy isn't going to throw anything CLOSE to what Wakefield can through. I've been throwing a knuckleball for around 12 years now, and if I was side by side with him it would be a joke.

what, so someone like candiotti wouldn't agree to come in to throw some knuckleballs to the players?

obviously they can't bring in someone off the street. has to be someone who can throw one reasonably well

I don't think he would. They're all pretty close, so I can't see one of them going to help a team they aren't otherwise affiliated with beat their friend.

There have been teams that have brought in minor league guys or independent league guys that throw it, but even they aren't even close to as effective with it. I think the Yankees did that a couple years ago actually.

Ok, so I don't get called a troll again...

I'm going to watch the game and go to bed after. I won't be posting again tonight, win or lose.

1)That WebMD thing is annoying as hell because it's useless. It tells you absolutely nothing. Not informative at all.

2)I hate the split-screen when they talk with the manager or pitching coach. I want to see the game, not some old guy with a headset on.

3)I actually got the trivia question right tonight.

    Indians pouring it on. 3-0.

1)The rule that a guy gets a hit when his grounder hits the runner (last night with manny and ortiz) is stupid.

2)I don't get why the Indians have been batting Cabrera second all postseason. He's not Orlando. He's not a good hitter.

3)The theory I've read on hitting the knuckleball is to wait for a high one.

Delcarmen gives up a 3 run shot to the first hitter he faces. 6-0

Schilling, Wakefield, and Daisuke all go 4 2/3 innings, and all give up 4 or more runs

I'm REALLY rooting for Cleveland now because many Red Sox fans are Patriots fans, and Patriots fans are some of the most obnoxious people ever created.
