You're using Wins to measure a pitcher's performance? Uh oh? Beckett had 6.42 run support per game while Sabathia was at 5.10 per game. That's very significant.
Both should win easily with sub 4 ERAs right? 5-3 is as much as a win as 6-3. Besides Beckett will win just because of Carmona. It's hard to win vs. a teammate.
Sabathia also gave up the third most hits in the AL. Opponents hit .259 off him as opposed to .245 for Beckett. Beckett also was better in K/9, OBP, and SLG. Sabathia also faced easier competition. Becket made 10 starts against playoff teams (NYY-2, CLE-2, ANA-2, ARI-1, COL-1) compared to Sabathia's 4 (ANA-2, BOS-1, PHI-1). A whopping 39% of Sabathia's innings came against the three lowest scoring offenses in the AL. Add the fact that Beckett is the only 20 game winner since '05, and the fact that a lot of voters are influenced by wins, and I think he's the clear winner.
MANNY BEING MANNY!!!!! Someone FINALLY decides not to let Ortiz beat them, and it blows up in their face! 2-0 Sox!!! For the Angels to win the series now, they have to beat a fully rested Beckett. Life is good.
