ok i agree with everyhing u have except henry and tebow so u wanna bring in henry to give him a fresh start in the laggest city in the united states? he will be doing a like sentence in prison by time thats project is done and tebow will be a big project to turn him into a great nfl qb atleast 3 or for years which we dont have.
Then make it Stafford. I like Stafford better as a QB prospect - stronger arm among other things. However, the Jets new OC runs a semi-spread offense. Tebow runs a semi-if not full out-spread offense and shows the most promise out of an QB to come from the Florida program. We know he can take a hit - so once he learns not to slide and stay more in the pocket - he should have a longevity similar to Favre's. If Stafford and Tebow are both on the board in 2010 and we have the pick, I would take Stafford. However I believe Stafford will be gone by the time the Jets pick and Tebow could have a Quinn like slide because off all the skeptics. I know its early to predict that...but Aristotle made some premature predictions too..
The GM What makes you think the Bengals would ever take Baker? They clearly upgraded the position with the acquisition of Ben Utecht.
There are a number of teams who need a solid veteran TE. If you really think Utecht solves their TE need, then the trade can be made with another team (Falcons, Lions, Panthers, Seahawks, Vikings, Bills, Cardinals).
You're right Harpua...a 4-12 season or a 40 year Superbowl DISappearance isn't an indication of a team that needs rebuilding. Oh wait...the 100+ million dollars spent on the big name FAs brought in...that isn't an indicator of a rebuilding team either...damn...and those are only the big name guys. I love the Jets, but there is no point in lying. I, like most Jets faithful, am not satisfied with a 4-12 season. The Jets have made a number of moves to help REBUILD this team into a power in the AFC and I hope they continue to do so.
No to Boller! There has to be another option. I'm sure there will be a veteran QB around that would be a good clipboard holder. Boller might be qualified to carry gatorade but that's about it.
If your not smart enough to realize we have very good peices in place, then you not worth talking to. At this point we have a good deal of talent with a few areas the will need shored up to get us into serious contention. Sure we were 4-12 last year, but 10-6 the year before that. With an improved O-line, D-line, and QB situation we should be much closer to the 10-6 record this year. The big things the Jets need to figure out fast is a heir to Favre, which we may have in place already, and how to shore up the edges on the run D. This is not a talent poor team like Miami who needs a complete rebuild, but a talented team with a young roster and some holes that need filled. It amazes me that you want to talk about rebuilding, after we've had our biggest offseason in the last 40 years, yet before we play a single regular season game. Why not see how the current changes pan out before claiming the sky is falling. I love it when some one wants to argue a point and your come back was to admonish his spelling mistake. It makes you seem arrogant and unable to confornt him on the point at the same time. A real lose-lose type of post.
When I started this rebuilding the jets franchise thread, it was what i would do to CONTINUE rebuilding the team. Look at the team at the beginning of the offseason before the signings of Faneca, Woody, Pace, Franks, Richardson, Chatman, Smith, Clowney, and Ratliff, trading for Favre and Jenkins, and drafting Gholston, Keller, Lowery, Ainge, Henry, and Garner. Would you call THAT team a talent-deep team who could go 10-6? No. The Jets started the rebuilding process coming into this season, that is for certain. The GM: 2 Harpua: 0
I love it when you keep score. Do you ref for the NBA? I would seem like it the way your fixing things in your favor. I also love how you included each and every draft pick as part of the huge offseason and proof that we turned the whole roster over. Nice way to add bulk to your statement with a huge pile of steaming crap. Every team has a draft class every year and its in no way an indication of rebuilding. Ratliff was a PS guy last year not a new addition. We already have rebuilt the O-line by adding Woody and Faneca. We Fixed the QB slot for the short term with Favre. Helped the D With the additions of Jenkins and Pace. Yet you want to talking rebuilding. You think we lack talent? Rhodes, Harris, Revis, Cotchery, Coles, Mangold, and Brick are all very good young talents that have been here starting for at least a season. We have a very good young base of players and attempted to fix most of our holes through FA entering this season. At this point we need to see what the current product can do and add depth. At this point we should at least be a 8-8 team if not in the 10-6 area again. Not exactly the type of squads that rebuild. ...but I'll let your little thread die now seeing as you have all the answers and are keeping score with yourself. Have fun fellating Kyle Boller and undersized DE's for the 3-4 in here all by yourself.
Man you don't give up do you? Go through a bad breakup recently? Did she break your heart? Coming at me with a vengeance? Ratliff was a practice squad guy but then he was signed to a futures contract so he was put on the active roster, making him a signing. When you rebuild, your draft picks are part of that process, so the only steaming pile of crap happens to be pouring from your mouth. I don't know where you've been, maybe you woke up from some deep sleep a few days ago, but the Jets were a very weak team heading into this offseason. You named 7 good guys on a 52-man roster. Will you just give up and admit you're wrong...you are coming across as really childish. If someone asked you what have the Jets FO done to rebuild the team into an AFC Power, what would you respond with? 99.99% of people would say (guess who the .01% is?) that they traded for Favre (solidify QB spot for a year or two) and Jenkins (bolster run D), signed Faneca and Woody (to improve OL and run game), Pace (OLB spot), Richardson (improve run game), Chatman and Smith (add depth and experience to the backfield), Franks (add a solid vet TE), and Clowney (add a young deep threat WR), drafting Gholston (OLB spot), (a receiving threat TE in) Keller, (a promising CB/FS prospect in) Lowery, (QB depth in) Ainge, (red zone threat in) Henry, and Garner (OL depth). Oh, and look at what I made bold from your last post. Did you say rebuilt? Wow. And did you just acknowledge that the Jets had a lot of holes to fill, and they tried to fill most through free agency? hmy: You are looking at the team from the end of this upcoming season and saying they don't need rebuilding. You are already assuming they are going 10-6. I am and have been talking the continuation of rebuilding the Jets franchise into an AFC power. And when did I say our team currently lacks talent? I forget, please show me. I think you're in the wrong forum, Winy Little Boys Who Don't Contribute to a Thread but Like to Try and Look Cool was moved to the Raider forum. Cry me a river. 4-0.
What game are we playing? You've made yourself look like a jerkoff 4 times in a row, so I guess you would be winning 4 to nothing. ...while you add it, why don't you make up a scenario in which we trade Kellen Clemens to Oakland for Marques Tuiasasopo and Andrew Walter -- it's all about the depth at backup QB. Not just QB, backup QB.
Because all of my prosposed trades were as realistic as possible and made to benefit the team. And the score is for this: This thread is about the continuation of rebuilding the Jets into an AFC power. Harpua keeps saying the Jets don't need rebuilding after this offseason, but he keeps missing the point of the thread. Two times the same remarks about something unrelated would give the 4-0.
I'll give you this GM, I've never seen such a lengthy post from a newcomer to the board that was so widely derided... yet you are hanging in there and fighting your corner. It might be time, however, to let this one die quietly and move on to something else. I know you put a lot of work into this and it will hurt to let it go, but I think it might be best.
To give some comparisons from recent years: The Patriots rebuilt by taking offensive and defensive linemen early in the draft, signing a few quality free agents, getting lucky as hell on a 6th round QB and repeatedly deferring value by trading down and picking up extra picks in future years. This is a text book plan and it is what lead them to 16-0 last year after their super bowl run of 2001-2004. The Chargers rebuilt by consistently trading down and acquiring multiple players in the first round over any particular player on their list. This was after the disastrous 1998 draft when they did the opposite and set their rebuild back by 3 years. AJ Smith has consistently taken defensive linemen in the first couple of rounds and is not afraid to stockpile talent for depth even when he already has an established player or two at a position. He generally favors depth over need and has passed on players at need positions at times. The Cowboys rebuilt by taking offensive and defensive linemen and linebackers in the first 3 rounds, by adding impact veterans (Terry Glenn, Terrell Owens) and by getting lucky as hell on an undrafted QB. The Colts rebuilt by taking the best player of his generation (and I think Peyton Manning qualifies) #1 overall in a lucky development for them, by drafting a few quality offensive players in his vicinity and then by repeatedly throwing the kitchen sink at the defense in the draft until they had a great balanced team. They use the draft better than any other team in the era of true free agency. Looking at the four examples above, which represent the best rebuilds of the last decade it's pretty clear where the Jets fall short and why they are unlikely to have as much success with their efforts.
