just watching how the Ravens D played against the Dolphins...on the road to boot...puts big Rex on the top of my list of candidates.
Yup totally impressed by the Ravens defensive performance today. Ryan called a great game. While he has great talent over there, he calls schemes to put them in the positions to make the implact plays. Gotta love it. Ryan for HC in 09!!!
If I were Tannenbaum, I'd find out why Rex didn't get the Ravens job last offseason. Why was he surpassed for the position by Harbaugh. What does Ozzie Newsome or the owner down there know about Rex as a leader. Obviously, I like his defense's performance on the field. But I want to know the answer to that question if I'm Tannenbaum.
Why does this defensive performance shock anyone? This is how the Raiders have been for a while now. They're just in the playoffs again.
you know i jumped on this at first...but the more i think about it the more i like it.... my list is 1. shanahan 2. marty schott 3. ryan absolutely not's: 1) brian schotts 2) spags wish list: billick
"Often Ryan will mix zone and man coverage on the same play, using a Cover Two look deep while shadowing shallow receivers man-to-man. "Our system works," Rex says, "because on every play the offense is thinking, Here comes the blitz. And whether it is or not, the quarterback better have a clock in his head, because he's not going to have much time."" Reading this made me think, when was the last time a Jet coach explained his system in terms that made sense? Its been three years of "process", "function of" and "game specific". What do those things even mean? Ryan actually says something when he talks.
I am relatively sure all of our young players will excel in Ryan's system. Gholston may just turn out to be the beast he was hyped up to be. If there is anyone that can make this defense great (outside of Dick LeBeau), it is Rex Ryan. Would he bring his brother over from the Gayders to handle DC duties? I wouldn't complain...
I like Rex alot. Aside from Shanahan,he's my first choice for HC. Despite never being an HC,he has a ton of experience, knows his x's and o's and is loved by his players. He also runs a 3-4 friendly scheme, which means we wont have any drastic scheme changes defensively. This defense can be very good..it just needs some fine tuning.
I'm on board. Watching this defense play and SD's last night made me ill. Clear as day...when you pressure the QB you force the issue...and we NEVER did it. 3rd and 3, these D's blitzed. Sutton? he ran the 3-8 defense. HIRE HIM NOW
You cannot argue with Rex Ryan as a top choice. Does he have what it takes to handle the media and be HC? I still think Marty Schott is a damned good proven winner and its kind of baffling why he is not getting an interview - is there a rooney rule for 60 somethings?
Ryan, 46, learned from the master of pressure D—his dad, Buddy, who was all about mismatches and intimidation. Buddy Ryan brought the blitz-dominated 46 defense to the NFL as defensive coordinator of the Bears in the early '80s; cornerbacks were valued for their ability to blitz and play bump-and-run. "My dad was all about outnumbering the protection," Rex says. "If there was a six-man protection, he'd send seven. He had a Cover Zero philosophy." Buddy also taught sons Rex and Rob—the Raiders' defensive coordinator—to use their imagination to outsmart the offense. Rex's schemes seem as risky as Buddy's, but look closer. He never leaves the deep middle exposed. In Baltimore, Rex's creativity has included taking a page from the LeBeau zone-blitz book by dropping 345-pound tackle Haloti Ngata into a shallow zone and leaving the center to block no one, while a blitzer rushes through another gap. Often Ryan will mix zone and man coverage on the same play, using a Cover Two look deep while shadowing shallow receivers man-to-man. "Our system works," Rex says, "because on every play the offense is thinking, Here comes the blitz. And whether it is or not, the quarterback better have a clock in his head, because he's not going to have much time." his dad was an assistant on our sb team, went the next year with the vikes, and won again with the bears. like the mannings, he learned from his dad.
U meant to type Ravens there, but I know what u were saying. To be honest, since Mangini was fired I have been calling for Rex Ryan to come to the Jets. Originally, I wanted Cowher first, then Ryan, then a distant liking for Shanahan, and Spags. Cowher and Ryan became my top choices because of the defenses they've both seen in their respective teams.
After watching the Baltimore/Miami game, I would love to have Rex Ryan as our head coach. Has anybody heard of any plans for the Jets to interview him yet? It's a name that I just haven't seen mentioned.
Rex is not only a coordinator but the assistant HC plus he knows how to develop UFAs and low draft picks. This is the type of guy we need. PLEASE TITANS WIN THIS WEEK AND PLEASE JETS HIRE THIS MANNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Everybody talks about him as if he would be brought here to be the DC...he won't. Talk about him in terms of what he can do for this team as HC and who he would hire to be the DC. (well, maybe not everybody but most)
I guess people won't be too happy to see this. And it says he is cheap. Right up Woody's alley. "Adam Schefter, in a blog post at NFL.com, cites league sources who think that Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan is the favorite to land the Rams head coaching gig for 2009. With the Falcons, Rams new GM Billy Devaney interviewed Ryan and Titans defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz for the head coaching job before settling on Mike Smith. Those connections could be the key to filling the Rams de facto coaching vacancy. Schefter's take on Ryan: Ryan is the type of coach that could help turn around this franchise, and he would not command the type of salary that a Bill Cowher or a higher-profile head coach would. my only hope is that Tanny pulls another deal out of nowhere when it seems the Jets have no shot of getting who they want. His father coached here.... how is that not a good enough selling point? someone explain that to me...
Actually, I think his father having been here could help but the Jets can't screw around like they always do if they seriously want him.
