Idzik did not have enough of a background in personnel. And it showed from his shitty draft picks and inability to do more with the roster in general. I don't see there being any signficant chance of a repeat with Maccagnan. If I were you I would stop losing sleep over it.
He did not have enough background as a scout? 15 years is a long time. Not all draft picks are going to light the world on fire immediately. Some may need time to develop. Some may never pan out and some hit ground running right away. So either way we don't know what we have in any of these players yet. I'm not losing sleep over this trust me I'm just not in agreement with firing a GM after only 2 years.
I picked them for 7 - 9 last year...and you want me to expose myself to ridicule 2 years in a row? No thanks.
Consider the fact that 7 of the 12 losses were one score games, I don't think it's impossible to get 8 or 9 wins next year with the way our schedule looks. That could be enough for a wildcard spot.
I like what I'm reading about the new regime, so I'm leaning toward a fair amount of on-field improvement for the Jets. At the least, I'd be happy with less off-field bullshit.
The last 3 Jet head coached made the playoffs in their first year. I expect trend to continue. The talk about adding one more Wild Card team in each conference increases our chances. Paint me an optimist but the things we were lacking last year was QB play, secondary and accountability. I don't expect an immediate solution in QB but Bowles will bring accountability and secondary will be taken care of in the offseason. Our D Line is still above average and our receiving corps isn't terrible. Playoff is a possibility for sure.
That sounds similar to the rationale some used to project a 10+ win season in 2014. "Hey we were 8-8 last year; now our roster is better. 11-5 here we come!"
Wrong. Don't twist my words. Re-read what I wrote. I didn't say anything about starting over in two years. I said with a veteran coach who is experienced in his position, there shouldn't be all those mistakes. If there are, then perhaps they should be replaced. With the ones who are rookies, there should be time for them to learn, unless it's obvious that they're in over their heads. There's a big difference between someone making some mistakes as part of his learning process, and someone who's totally in over his head and floundering. While it is somewhat subjective, if you're paying attention, it's glaringly apparent.
I'm going to use the Forty Niners as an example, Tomsula and the rest of their CS will produce the most talented underachieving team in NFL history. He will be fired either during this year or next. There is a big difference between a BS artist and a man that knows what he is talking about. When I heard Bowles, and Big Mac speak, it was genuine, articulate and knowledgable. It gave me confidence that they could turn it around because they could see the forest from the trees, and make sound football decisions. They backed it up by putting together a decent CS and FO, it appears that the team will be a reflection of a unified administration. So a reasonable record for me based on an elevated organizational structure with good FA signings and a good draft and finding a better QB than Geno, would be 9-7 or 10-6.
You may need to re read MY post where did I respond to you about 2 years? My point is that the front office needs time. I never said anything about coaching that's a different story if the players are unprepared and undisciplined you could make a good case for firing the coach after 2 years.
I expect at least a two year rebuild if they do the rebuild the right way. If they choose to rebuild primarily through the draft and decide to spend the cap money keeping our good young talent then it could be a 3 or 4 year rebuild period..and I'm good with that if they go that route. I'd rather have a good young team built for the long haul with the purpose and intent of resigning and keeping our good young talent and building through the draft. I'm tired of going 'all in' for a short window of opportunity. This isn't to say you avoid free agents entirely, but rather use them to plug holes rather than using the draft to plug holes.
Call me naive, but what the heck IS that thing, a gigantic baby rattle?! ...I mean, I did go to college and all, but I've never seen anything like that in my entire life lol!
The measure of a growing team for the Jets is our offense. If the new staff makes a huge difference and we put up good numbers.... that's the difference.
Here are my reasonable expectations for 2015: 1- The team will be well coached and play hard week in and week out. Better teams will beat us, but we will not beat ourselves or self-destruct by stubborn game plans, dumb mistakes, or simply un prepared after a buy 2- Slowly but surely we make savvy/selected improvements in free agency and we draft best talent available when on the clock...no more overreaching for projects or athletes. We need football talent not work-out warriors. 3- The best players will play, the rest will sit or go elsewhere 4- We strengthen the team for the long haul. We build thru youth, we don't mortgage the future, we spend appropriately but never recklessly 5- We give this new leadership team time to do it right. We can not expect miracles. Above all I expect Woody to trust this team, support them, and let them do their job
Yeah, I like to focus on the more important things in life. Getting high and abusing myself were never tops on my to-do list lol. ...but back to the topic of the thread, I don't understand how any fan, at this time of the year, would not be optimistic, especially since we just hired a fresh new GM and HC, and have the #6 pick in the draft, and a ton of cash to spend in FA. I mean, if you can't be optimistic now, when can you be?
In your initial post that I responded to, you said: I'm sorry if I misunderstood your intent, but you did not specify front office and Idzik as you did in a later post. When you spoke about a "rebuild" it sounded to me like you were talking about the organization as a whole, which includes both the CS and FO, since the CS is part of the regime. At any rate, I think firing Idzik was the absolute RIGHT thing to do. Normally you wouldn't fire a GM after two years, but this was different. The owner had made a mistake falling in love with his HC and not giving the GM the right to make his own decisions. Woody realized that the whole thing was a cluster fuck and needed to be cleaned up. With the exception of Richardson, Idzik's drafts were pretty awful. A player or two may still develop, but even 4-5 players/contributors out of 19 picks is awful. With 12 picks last season Idzik had the chance to totally rebuild the face of the franchise and he screwed the pooch. He should have gotten at least two impact players out of that draft, and probably more. In one of the best WR drafts in history and with it being a crying need on the Jets, he drafted 3 bums at WR, one of whom is no longer on the team, and if the other two make it, it will probably be at the bottom of the roster. That's a disgrace. You can embrace mediocrity if you want, but there's no way I wanted that dumbass naming the next HC and screwing up yet another FA period and draft. With another FA period and draft under his belt, he would have set the Jets back 10 years and done more harm than Tanny, and that's saying something. He was afraid to make a move in FA last season. At first I thought he was being smart not over paying for FAs, but it became apparent during the season that he was just paralyzed with fear or maybe he was trying to sabotage Rex. Whatever the case, imo he deserved to go. He had some experience with personnel, but was mostly an administrator and cap manager. He should never have been hired in the first place. When you've made a mistake, the best thing to do is admit, cut your losses and move on, and that's what Woody did. To have kept Idzik so he didn't have to admit that he made a mistake would have been like GMs refusing to cut draft picks who bust, and would have only have hurt the team. I'm sorry that you can't see how incompetent Idzik is. He doesn't have what it takes to be a successful GM in the NFL. He failed in FA, he failed in the draft, he failed to upgrade the Scouting and Personnel depts., he failed in handling personnel in the FO, and worst of all, he failed to convince Woody that Rex needed to go a year earlier and instead embraced Rex. For the latter alone he deserved to be fired. It's telling that one of the very first things that Mac was to begin cleaning out the dead wood/incompetent people in the scouting and personnel depts., and he had no more experience than Idzik. In fact, I believe that he's younger and less experience working for NFL teams, but he was intelligent and competent enough to see that major changes needed to be made in that area. Idzik wasn't. In addition, I'll point out that even Seattle people said that Idzik could be maddingly, painfully deliberate in making decisions. That's a nice way of saying that he's paralyzed by indecision and fear of doing something wrong. The game moves fast. So do teams seeking FAs. Idzik can't think fast enough or fast on his feet and it cost the Jets, and him his job. That's the way it should be.
Let's focus on 2015 as a rebuilding year?We have been using that excuse for two seasons now,I'm tired of every year being a "rebuilding " year its getting old and getting old fast.....That just opens up the bullshit "rebuilding year" excuse when we go 6-10 ,I honestly expect a winning record this year I'm not giving anyone a mulligan for anything.....
