I agree... It seems to me that we may come into a game with a decent gameplan, but, at halftime, the opposition adjusts, and we stick to the original formula... Usually leads to a pretty lopsided 2nd half.... Actually a shame that we put up 20 in the 4th Q this week, because it makes the numbers look much better than they really are, and lessens the likelihood of them EVER identifying the issue....
None of us know for sure but you have to assume they know and will examine their deficiencies. Let's face it, were it not for the Dolphins, we'd be the laughing stock of the AFC East. That has GOT to be bothering the shit out of Mangini, Tannenbaum and all the other staff and coaches. Another year of this and they'll all be looking for another area of the country in which to live.
Yes, it all comes down to how serious they utilize the off-season to shore up our blatant weaknesses. I we go out blazing in FA right away and go after pick of the litter rather than sloppy seconds and fill key deficiencies in our offensive lines than that would be a key positive right there. For God's sake we have to get a FA NT or draft a damned talented one. This guy who ever the hell he is has to be a strong side of beef - like 360+ lbs. If we see those things happening then we can surely have a lot of optimism for next year. If by chance there is a repeat performance in FA then right away we are in trouble because we are not going to fix all our shopping list of deficiencies in the draft.
What are you basing that on? Is the Denver defense ranked in the top 10? I ask this because I am unaware of the rankings. They are based on yards allowed and that is an awful way to rank teams. I don't even bother to look at those rankings. Their defense is not very good. The line is underwhelming, the outside linebackers have been trash, and Bailey and Bly have been burned a number of times. This has probably been Bailey's worst year. The thing is he'll still probably go to the Pro Bowl based on reputation.
Their D stinks this year and last year it was one of the best in the league and they were considered a contender coming into the season. Is Shanahan a dope as a HC?
Okay, you were talking about the 2006 Denver defense. Never mind, then. Therefore, your question is not really for me, but for whoever you were responding to yesterday.
My point Cakes is that Mangini is a young HC who I think has brought descipline stability and has drafted very well. You look around the league at guys like Shanahan who two years ago had a 13 & 3 team and was one game from a SB and has fallen completely out of contention in 2 years. Fisher who is widely considered one of the top HC in the NFL has missed the playoffs for 3 straight years and might well make it 4. Shuan Payton, last years coach of the year with a Franchise, healthy QB in a crappy division who probably is out of the playoffs this year. The Bears aren't going to the playoffs this year. I look at the team Mangini inherited still without a firm answer at QB in year two and I don't see a dope of a HC. I see a team competing hard making adjustments just not very good at the point of attack with almost no weapons. If we aren't running trick plays we simply are being beat even when we execute. That has to be corrected and it can't be done in one or two off seasons as Shanahan and Fisher, Billick and Payton and on and on have proven.
Shanahan fell in the trap that he could just coach up talent and not worry about the lines as much as they did in the past. The broncos problems are really similar to the jets. They need help on the O-line and D-line and they have a MLB that is playing out of position. Now, even though Denver lost their probowl Center and has issues on the o-line, they still move the ball on offense, which is coaching, but can't score in the redzone which is talent.
Yes I totally agree with the KC comment. For sure there are times when he flicks the ball that I think of you know who. I certainly hope he turns out to be what we have been looking for for so many years
Offensively, the 2007 NY Jets are really a tale of two cities... the Chad era and the Clemens era. I actually prefer to pretty much ignore what our offense was under Pennington. The difference in QBs is monumental, IMO, and skews all comparisons, even including running plays. Game-planning against Chad had to be a completely different situation than game-planning now against Clemens. What our FO/CS does now with the Clemens era... that's the key. If next year's record is like this year's, we're in huge trouble. I don't think so, however, which is what makes watching the rest of Clemens' games this year so exciting.
I have been waiting a lifetime to see a talent like you know who on our team. I hope your right on this one!
I agree with this 100%! I would not even be surprised to see CLemens go 3-1 the rest of the way. At least 2-2. He gives us a chance to win every week and that is all I have been asking for from the Qb position.
I totally agree Champ, there are times when he flicks the ball that he reminds me of Kenny O'Brien.
If you ever watched that other guy & then watch KC the way they flick the ball out is almost the same. He also does not so far show happy feet even with defenders all around him. I want to see once he gets time to setup ala Brady what he can do but for sure he seems to have skills that CP never had even before the shoulder injuries.
