how have I managed to make it through all these years without ever seeing the wisdom of Pluvvr on the subject of NFL football offense before??
Honestly his 2nd half was much better then his 1st half but he still needs to eliminate the bad mistakes. If your gonna throw it out of the back of the EZ throw it into the fucking stands. When I say gift it wasn't a fluke, it was Buffalo handing us unreal field position twice in a span of what 3 plays? It does matter how you start, ultimately it's about wins and the guy wins but I'd like to see better consistency from the offense. Why was I frustrated? Why on earth are we running gadget plays with the game over and making Sanchez a live target to get rocked by some LB or DL who has a free easy shot to the QB? I could care less about the hold, I'm more pissed about making him a live target with the game over. Not worth the risk.
Yes. As for Sanchez, he played pretty well. I'll give him credit. The problem is, he still makes those one or two awful mistakes a game that take points off the board or give points to the other team. Once he cuts those out, this offense could be good enough to compliment our defense. The offensive line looked a lot better, again, as it should against a mediocre defense. Shonn Greene has looked a hell of a lot better as well. So has Plaxico Burress, who looked like a bigger and better version of Braylon over the middle yesterday. I was really happy with the performance of a lot of individual performances. 1st drive of the game, I was raving about the offense. We threw well, we ran well, we moved right down the field, and then Sanchez pisses it away with a horrible INT. 2nd drive, we punted, 7 plays, 24 yards, not good, but we did switch field position a little bit. 3rd drive, 10 plays, 44 yards, got a FG from Folk. 4th drive, 4 plays, 7 yards, missed FG. Needed to move the ball more. Next 3 drives, we had absurd field position, and moved 8 yards the first 2 drives to set up punts/long field goals. Then, we did cash in with a TD, starting at the Buffalo 19. TD on the next 2 drives also. Was the offense great? No, but we kept making strides forward. The first half, the offense was pretty decent, but we were just slightly off. The 2nd half, even though we had good field position and got a big penalty on McKelvin, we still were able to take more advantage of opportunities. We won by the defense. But the offense showed a lot of signs of doing well, and it complemented the defense well, especially in the 2nd half. What worries me going forward is if Sanchez's skill position players get hurt. We have no replacement for Keller, and Kerley and Turner might not be ready to replace Holmes and Burress in case of injury. And Plaxico is going to miss a game at some point this season most likely.
Two points. I agree about the awful mistakes part, unlike some here who want to ignore them. But you make another point in the last paragraph. The fact is that yesterday the Jets were by NFL standards in very good shape. Thomas is out for the year. Cumberland too. But for the most part people are healthy. And we saw what happened when Mangold went out. At certain key positions, as we talk about in the off season the last few years, the Jets are very thin on the bench. I understand the thinking behind getting rid of Mason, and Kerley contributes. But the Jets are thin at receiver right now. One of these guys goes out for any period of time, it will hurt.
Isn't that true of most teams, though? And particularly at skill positions - if you lose your #1, you're likely to be asking a role player from the ST to step into the gap and hope that your system will cover for the talent drop.
The general observation is true of most teams, but my point is the Jets right now are more healthy than some teams at key skilled positions. I don't mean to minimize Thomas being out, but he's not one of the best players on the team. Right now all the key and/or best players are healthy. It's part of the way things seem to be coming together. You hate to use a word like destiny in a situation that is so fraught with the potential for twists and turns down the road. Maybe I am really thinking here about Mangold and how important he showed himself to be, both when out and now that he's healthy again, in the success of the team. But it's not just the top four or five players. Thomas is the only starter out.
Dont think it set in, from the Bills board as I was just reading it for fun: Here is the dumbest one so far:
In fairness to the Bills, I'd have been pissed at the reversal of the Wilson interception if it had happened to the Jets. There's no way in my mind that it was sufficiently clear to justify being overturned. Still, fuck them.
I tend to agree. That only takes 3 points off the board and then who knows how the rest of the half plays out, though.
The replay showed it was not an INT, the ball moved as he hit the ground and he didn't maintain possession. It was a good use of the challenge. Gayley made a bad challenge on trying to get a spot moved 2 inches for a first down. That's 'out-coaching'.
Just watched it again......... His hand rolled underneath the ball after it hit the ground without clear possession. It clearly hit the ground first..........good call
I only saw the replay or two they showed right away. Seemed like a tough one to overall. I never saw it clearly but I'll take your word for it.
