Yep, it's Applachian State versus the SEC, Big Ten, and The PAC 10 combined. Last May I was hopeful that Idzik put together some very good FAs despite the meh draft picks. I am sorry to wear such a Dark Hat but Toon, as usual, brings reality to the table. Unless some type of running game appears on Saturday, if I am part of the Jets front seven I am already tired.
Was thinking exact same thing, my friend. Probably will have heart surgery before this team makes it to SB
A chunk? If I'm not mistaken, he brought two - Jim Leonard and the ILB whose name escapes me at the moment. That's hardly a large group. I'm not sure we have any defensive FAs after this season other than Harris, and if Harris wanted to follow Rex out the door, that would be perfectly fine with me.
You can't remember Bart Scott's name? Rex brought in 1 player for each level of the defense, Leonhard for the secondary, Scott for the LBs, and Marques Douglas for the DL.
Coach of the year? Hardly. Last year the Jets had a rookie collegiate OT playing LG. Their two best OL had bad years. They had a rookie QB who was still learning how to take snaps from under center, adjust his footwork, learning the WCO, and adjusting to the NFL, and he had no one to throw the ball to. They had little team speed. STs were pretty bad. They had no one decent at S. They had an awful Cromartie at one CB spot and a rookie (Milliner) at the other. I don't care what Patterson or Walls do at the 2nd CB spot, they'd be hard pressed to be as bad as Cro last year. Milliner should be better. The depth at CB should be better. Richardson should be even better, which should be scary for opposing offenses. To that, the Jets have added Babin and a speedy S that hits like a mack truck. The DL depth should be better as well as that of the LB corps, and the pass rush should be improved without any weaking vs the run. They should have a better PR and STs should be better. Dalton, Winters and Aboushi have a year's experience and the OL depth should be better. The WR corps is deeper. They have more speed on offense and more depth and versatility at RB. They added a quality backup QB in Vick and a quality WR in Decker. Geno should be markedly improved. All of the returning players have a year's experience in Mornhinweg's system and should know the offense better. All of last year's rookies have a year's experience. If Amaro can give them anything at all and not prove to be a bust, the Jets should be more competitive than last year. As to whether that translated into more wins remains to be seen. They do have a tougher schedule, but if Rex is half the HC think he is, I think this team should have a good chance to win at least 9 games. As for those other teams, we saw last year that GB is vulnerable. They don't have the weapons they once did at WR, and their OL is always suspect. Cutler is as likely to throw the ball to one of our players as he is Marshall or Jeffrey. Manning is Manning, but that's one game, and besides, we don't know how that offense will fare without Decker. It should continue to thrive, but perhaps not. Stranger things have happened. Johnson can get a lot of yards and the Lions still lose. Stafford has a way of self-destructing, and with a potentially greatly improved pass rush, each of those QBs should be less effective than they otherwise might be. It will be interesting. But I will never believe Rex worthy of winning coach of the year. He's too dumb. He's still wasting time mucking around with the Wildcat.
