I'm not even looking at the schedule. It's one week at a time. No one writes this teams story. This team writes its own story. I think this team is a lot more professional and much more talented than the so called "doll" teams of the NFL. I'm expecting gritty, tough football at the line of scrimmage and us winning a lot of the match-ups where it matters most; close to the football.
The biggest games early on are really the Chargers and Bears game. Hopefully chalking up W's against the Lions and Raiders, leave you with a loss to the Packers. We NEED to take one of those two games against the Chargers and Bears. The NFL really screwed us giving us a 4 day stretch against Peyton and Brady. If we get to 3-4 through the first 7 games the schedule really loosens up towards the end of the season. 2-5 would be a disaster leaving us with lee way to only lose a game over the last 9 games, 3-4 is manageable though. All things considered we should lose to a team like the Vikings or Titans, and beat a team like the Broncos or Packer as we always do with Rex Ryan. The worst part is the west coast travels. We always struggle on the west coast against teams that aren't the Raiders like the god damn Seattle game in 2012. Sure enough we go to San Diego.
Believe me, 45 years of football misery (and being miserable) has not been fun. But I'm still hoping for this team to give me that one golden moment sometime before I shuffle off this mortal coil. And all the misery will be forgotten like that. Hope springs eternal.
I always sweat these seemingly tough schedules and then the Jets surprise and beat teams you don't think they can. Then they lose games to the Phins and Bills and bring us back to earth.
The second half of our schedule should be sweet after we get through 2-7 which im sure will be a roller coaster. If we can get around 4-3 by week 7.. i can see us going 10-6.. hell maybe even 11-5 if Geno decides to really step it up.. but i may just be being a homer
Nothing wrong with homering up as long as you realize you're doing it. The problem arises when you don't realize it and end up looking like an idiot. A lot of posters who were afflicted with that malady ended up leaving because they didn't know the difference and ended up idioting themselves out of here. Such a noble pack of rottweilers they were.
Appreciate you not getting all fussy about it I understand the frustration you must feel. Maybe in 45 year I'll be in the same boat. But I hope that after 5 you'll be in mine.
^All in good fun, bro. And believe you me, if they pull off the miracle this year no one will be happier than me. After the parade in the Canyon of Heroes drinks are on me!
Here are my naïve hopes and expectations. 1- May all our games be at least close enough to be winnable by the two minute warning 2- May we have as few injuries as the football Gods permit 3- May we for once come out from the buy week like a well prepared and coached team, not one that appeared to have just gotten back from an extended vacation 4- May we play the superior teams tough and those we deem "winnable games" even tougher. 5- May we play promising enough football to give Jet fans hope that ever game is winnable in 2014 6- May we start each game fast and finish even faster 7- May we have control of our own playoff destiny all season long
8 to 11 wins. I think we will start pretty well and then the question is whether we can maintain the start through the injuries and bad bounces sure to come.
The first half of the season is brutal, so of course we go 8-0. The second half is full of automatic W's. So of course we go 0-8. We'll earn our 8-8 this season.
I've read through all four pages of the thread and it still boggles my mind how, considering we are still in mid-preseason, how anyone can come up with a record. Hell, we lost 2 CB's in one practice! That is how it is week in and week out in the NFL. Everyone keeps on and on about who is going to be powerful and who is going to suck. You just never know! Last year the Falcons were supposed to be powerhouses...the Texans too...how did that turn out? We were supposed to blow monkey ass and we went 8-8. The ONLY thing I can tell you is based on our roster now and the Raiders roster now we will be 1-0 for 2014. Beyond that I couldn't give you a rats ass guess in hell how it's going to pan out. The Patriots could lose Brady in game one and I wouldn't bet on them winning more than 3 games the whole season if that happened. Soooo....why waste time and cycles thinking about it when we haven't even played game 2 in the pre-season?? Just a thought.
You can get a feel for a team though. Then picking in a 4 game range for wins is not so hard. Horrible injuries will always dampen results below expectations and occasionally an unexpectedly great performance by one of the units will raise them. In 2012 I thought the Jets would win 7 to 9 games. Then Darrelle Revis and Santonio Holmes both got hurt, making the Jets soft on the edges and they won 6 instead. Last year was a rebuilding year, but it was a Rex team and so I thought 5 to 8 wins was a reasonable projection. They played like a 5 win team a lot of the year but they won 8. This year I really think they have some upside built in. I think the defense is going to be better than last year by a bit, particularly in the pass defense. I think the offense is going to be much better than last year. So 8 to 11 wins seems like a reasonable projection. If they have a couple of bad injuries to key players in the middle of the field then yeah they might win fewer than 8 but I don't expect that. If it happens it happens. My mistake in 2012 was going with a 3 game range. I didn't think the Jets had a shot at 10 wins after the bad off-season they had and I wasn't willing to go with 6 to 9 as the range. The example of a unit over-performing out of nowhere and raising results is the 1998 Jets. The offense was very strong that year despite replacing the QB in the off-season and then again early in the season. A team that probably had 10 win talent going into the season won 12 instead.
7-9...that schedule is brutal. Games will be competitive.. The defense will keep the Jets in a lot of games, but by the end of the year, they will be worn down. The offense will be brutal to watch. And Idzik supporters will be in hiding. I'm sort of kidding on the last point.
